The last two numbers in some of the addresses have been deleted to protect the privacy of the victim(s).
According to the Concord Police, the report shown above only includes approved reports. Some burglary reports might not be written or completely approved, which is why they are not included in this post.
How is “approved report” defined? I have never heard this term is it new? What is the purpose? Who does this “approving”? Exactly what is being “approved”?
So basically
Who?
What?
When?
Why?
How?
Approved reports, what are they trying to keep from us.
Sam – a report written by an officer or other personnel has to be approved by a supervisor as to accuracy, spelling, etc., before it’s released to the Records Dept. so that involved parties can obtain the reports. Sometimes reports have been written, but are sitting in a queue waiting for approval because it might need further information.
or re-classification to play with the stats
Is this your opinion, or facts? Is this the official meaning of “approved” from the Concord PD?
If a burglary can be “approved”, it can be disproved, almost as if it never happened. There really is no point in reporting most crimes unless there is photographic evidence and the crime is worth their time.
Sam – used to work for PD and wrote various reports.
S – no way to “re-classify” anything. A report is what it is – burglary, theft, collision, etc.
Thanks. I still am unclear to what is taking place in the moment that would have them making that particular statement (If everything is normal) But thanks for your first hand info on the topic.
Not always Jo…. Maybe in a perfect world…
I’ve a friend who (retired) worked at a police department in West County. The admin approving reports had a general practice of reducing report stats… ie: a burglary where the bad guy dropped the goods running away was re-classified from a burglary to a trespass.
These “Stats” games are played.
Hopefully your police department had better integrity…
Sam – sometimes further information is needed in order to complete a report, such as in vehicles or home burglaries. Sometimes when initial reports are made, it is not known everything that has been stolen so items need to be added later before the report is submitted for approval by a supervisor. Sometimes a supervisor will come back to the initial report writer to ask for more information in order to make the report complete.
What exactly are you not clear about?
