The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
QUESTION: If you had to bet, would you say schools will reopen for in-person instruction before January 2021, or After January 2021?
Talk about it….
Given how slow the public school bureaucracy is to move, and how much sway the unions have, I’d say definitely after. I don’t see the virus numbers going down to basically nothing before January, and even if they did the districts would take a long time to get everyone’s buy-in and put together procedures, etc.
Are you talking about full classes with all kids in a room or alternating days thing?
Because the reports of some classes having 30 kids probably means it’s distance most of the year,
I’d say well into the Fall of 2021, as the Politicians want us all in fear as long as possible, and the easiest way is to instill fear is through the children.
January 2022
I’m inclined to agree with you. But maybe even later in 2022.
After. No question in my mind.
November 4th!
Agreed!
Bingo!
I think after, these school districts are giant ships that are hard to turnaround, especially when the crew doesn’t want it to turn around. They take so long to make simple decisions, because there’s really no leadership and they all are afraid to take any risks.
They will reopen when the unions say so. Maybe after Nov 3 if Slow Joe wins. Later if Trump wins.
Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the day after the election when the Democrats lose income no longer have an effect on the Trump presidency
Depending on how things turn out on November 3rd I would say one of the following dates:
November 4th
November 8th
January 21st or 22nd, 2021
If Trump wins then it could be another 4 years.
I’m guessing Fall 2021. This school year is going to be a total loss.
MDUSD’s teacher’s union won’t do anything until after the election. Then if President Trump wins there will be a period of public hissy-fits and mourning just like in 2016.
I’m fairly the confident that Adam Clark, the guy MDUSD hired as superintendent, will either be fired or resign by next May just like his predecessor, so they’ll have to figure out how to adjust after that.
By the time all that’s done it will be next fall.
Definitely after.
I’m not hopeful about an effective vaccine ever being developed for Covid so I think it might be years before schools are open for in-person classes.
November 4th
Never
Nov 4.
Well, by the responses on here I can tell US Education has failed or Faux news has brainwashed a lot of people.
Researchers at Stanford actually say we can reopen schools but only if they follow strict guidelines. The thing is it will be costly. It calls for testing for anyone that is sick, random testing of students and staff, Dedicated more testing for kids in high risk households/communities, limiting class size and expanding through modules if class sizes are too big, plastic shields around desks, provide proper sanitation for the classroom, and provide training to staff and guidelines to children.
@Pyrrhus, Yes, perhaps the education system did fail you. Teacher’s union will never go for opening under those conditions. Furthermore, since teacher’s are running gofundme accounts just to pay for basic classroom supplies, I doubt the school systems have the money to pay for the measure you have outlined.
Finally, one small cluster of positive kids/teachers and it will all be over.
You can tell when someone was downloaded with their programming. Fox News is clearly bias but at least they respect their viewers enough to tell the truth. Everyone else pushes conspiracies and propaganda.
Faux news..good one (20 years ago) 🤡🤡
@Pyrrhus
I Just got back from dropping my freshman child off in Indiana at Perdue, a state run university (top 10 engineering school).. They have been planning in class learning since April. They had 5 months to plan. The precaution they went thru were amazing. I was totally comfortable leaving my youngest child. Once again a state run school. Interesting that Perdue a state run school in a red state doesn’t need to hold children hostage, oh…. by the way, they have not raised tuition over 6 years. Amazing what good management of finances can accomplish.
My guess is that this whole school year will only be online. Teachers seem to scared yet I’m sure they go to Costco where it’s jammed packed but won’t safely teach our kids. I know I know, because Costco is essential and our kids education isn’t.
So true@ raiderette
Not up to teachers! It’s up to our districts and our Gov. I want to go back tomorrow
Shopping for essentials is completely different than being in a classroom with 30 plus kids for 6 plus hours a day, where you don’t know who comes in and out of their homes. Who they come into contact with everyday.
Most children don’t even show symptoms.
It depends on how long it will take parents to determine if online instruction works well or not for their kids. If not, the parents will revolt against the decision makers. They will demand the schools open without delay.
I think after the Christmas break. They will return for the 2nd half of the school year. Many schools throughout the country are already back in class. Californians will start seeing better numbers and there will be more information on a vaccine. There will be minimal protests, as everyone will have grown tired of online school and will be ready for a change.
Definitely after January of 2021 for Public Schools. The teachers love the 2 hour work day without commute, with no reduction in pay. So what if the kids don’t learn.
2 hour work days? You don’t know anything! I’m a teacher and I am working at least 10 hour days between zoom meetings, staff/grade level meetings, grading (32 students times at least 20+ assignments a week), lesson planning, and making all assignments digitalized. Oh and on top of that answer emails/messages from parents and students, setting up extra times for students to get extra help or just to talk if they need someone to talk to. So everyone who is assuming teachers are only working 2 hours a day clearly are idiots and don’t know a single teacher. I’d much rather be back in a regular classroom so I can see my students. It’s not a vacation for teachers, and it breaks our hearts knowing we can’t see our students. So please stop assuming.
Jess is right, check your facts before you write.
Jess is a teacher? Calling everyone idiots? Not a good example for your children.
Jess is 100% right!
Aunt Barbara
His comments aren’t meant for children, they are for people like you who comment without any knowledge of what teachers do. If you let children read some of these comments, then point your finger at no one but yourself!
Well at least school shootings have stopped. Also teachers can’t get away with undermining our country all snarky like. Remember teachers, parents are watching you now.
@Sam, Great point…parents can now watch the teachers and see what is really going on. This could be really good!
Waaaaaa, the crybaby elementary school teacher @Jess is crying again. Sounds like you need a nice quiet office job, this ones too much for you.
After Gilead decides how much to charge for vaccines.
Gilead is charging 3000 dollars for a 5 days treatment with Remdesivir.
They do not produce the vaccine.
Never …this is part of Gavin’s plan to protect his precious rugrats from bullying and mass shooters.
I truly hope the schools are reopened when it is safe to do so and not because of other reasons. I hope people love their children enough to want that even if it is extremely inconvient. Children are not immune. Teachers are not immune.
Judging by how the district tends to make any decisions, I think it will be a while until some sort of agreement is even reached. Most likely, after January 2021, if not more later. Many students will miss out on their education, even though it wasn’t the best when kids were in school. And in November, will come a whole other round of headaches with the election, as both Trump and Biden are so-so candidates.
Per the Teacher’s Unions…”When pigs fly.”
Probably after January.
I’d be interested in finding out if kids learn more at home than in school. As always, it will depend on the child and parent participation.
Like it or not the election will have an effect on his. There is a chance the Newsom recall effort will have an effect on this. In both cases, we will know more in November.
As soon as we the people grow a set and stand up and take our country back.
They’re never going back. The fear in this country is out of control. Everyone is out for themself and doesn’t care about anyone. Teachers will collect a paycheck working little from home for as long as they can. And that’s forever. At least they’re working from home, more than I can say for the millions “too scared to go to work.” Actually they just love the government dole.
Should be now.
Look at other countries and how they are doing it, no masks and teachers happy to be back……we are so afraid it is like we have already died.
What are people thinking? this is the flu and they need to go back to school now!!!!
The city of concord has in 5 months about 1 case perr day – that is not an epidemic and certainly not a “pandemic”.
Treated properly with available proven medication from Dr. Fauci’s 2004 report lives can be saved.
This is not the flu: Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.
I’m a high school teacher. I have had 4 students tell me someone close to them has died of COVID and many more who have had a loved one hospitalized. I have also had many students tell me they themselves tested positive, or they believe they were infected but never took a test.
Teachers should not be asked to return to classrooms until the scientists say it is safe to do so, not when the pundits or politicians are pushing for it.
