Diablo Valley College has been requiring one of these classes to graduate with an AA degree for 20 years. All of them are designed to trash America. Most students see through it and go for Pass or Fail. My American History class (also required at DVC) made me love this country.
The current psychology class at DVC is equally appalling. My child is in that class and had to answer questions on white privilege. The questions are so racist toward whites and are clearly trying to convince you that your an evil lowlife, pos! The only thing that gets me through is my faith, knowing that the people pushing this hateful, anti white, racist agenda will answer to God Almighty for all of it!
Can’t wait.

I wonder what the course will replace. The CSU recently cut the graduation requirement for many engineering programs from 132 semester units to 120 to improve 4 year graduation rates. In most cases, the 12 unit cut came from technical electives and not general education requirements. They watered down this important area of study and made the degree less valuable than an engineering degree from a different institution.
I wouldn’t want to be in a building or drive across a bridge that one of these new, dumbed down more inclusive engineers designed. Hey, but social justice is more important than actual knowledge and training.

A whole threat of people commenting about education when it’s pretty obvious they’ve had none. Y’all think Marxism, Fascism, socialism, and communism are all interchangeable. You burn face masks to “own” science. Looks to me like if y’all are a product of the way things used to me, we need *more* inclusive studies because our education system has created 140k dead from a virus the rest of the developed world has overcome.
@Greg,
Yeah man, it’s the Trump virus! In fact, if it weren’t for him, nobody would have died! Biden would have kicked that virus in the arse! He would have challenged it to push-ups, and just downright beat it up!
Or perhaps we could have just forced residents to stay in there home, until dead or recovered, like China…or maybe forced people to download an app to track their every movement, like S Korea. Nothing wrong with that…
In all seriousness, education is great, but political biased brainwashing is not education. It’s a forced fed indoctrination intended to persuade youth to hate the US.
Talk to any immigrant on how they feel about the US, and get a grounded macro pov.
You’re going to comment about the education of others and actually type out “y’all” twice while doing so? Got it. If that’s reflective of your brand of education, I’ll pass.
Greg: I’m not sure why or how you are tying in political systems to ethnic studies, but you seem to be saying that we need to be more understanding and accepting of socialism and fascism as we would those with different ethnicities. You do realize there are no socialist European country and Bernie’s teaser on that was thoroughly rebuked by officials in such places as Sweden. The former Prime Minister of Sweden instructed Bernie that having an industry group like health care run by the government does not make a country socialist any more than the US Postal Service made us socialist.
@Rollo Tomasi so now you are talking down to people who say y’all? I bet you always say do not, does not, are not, you are, and I could keep going on and on. I also bet you wear a monocle and a top hat hand say, “Have a cherry day ol’ chap” oh wait that is not proper either, and that would make you Mr. Peanut, sorry Mister Peanut, since you will probably judge my education based on using an abbreviation of Mister. If you are going to question someone’s education based on them saying y’all, I will support anything that you are against.
@Rollo well you are showing your lack of knowledge when you question Greg and his “y’all”? This is a perfectly proper use of the American English, in fact the plural of “y’all” is “all y’all.”
I’m well aware of it’s meaning and it’s prevalence in the spoken language. It is not, however, a universally accepted form of contraction in the written word any more than the written garbage many people use when texting.

Agreed, this is political brainwashing. The Democrats, Liberals and entitlement crowd are doing their best to make the US socialistic. That cannot happen. It is not Trump that is doing this it is the rioters, agitators and those that do not understand or want to have the US succeed. If we continue to allow this to happen and erase history-horrible historic events will come back to bite us. De-funding law enforcement is the first step that the Democrats are backing. Pay attention and see who is really behind these movements.

This could be a good thing if the right person was designing the class. Teaching “The Pledge of Allegiance” would be a good start. An examination of how to become a citizen. A history of how immigrants integrated into cities, suburbs and farms. And don’t forget: How to behave respectfully towards police officers.
Introduction to our wide array of festivals and fare. The wonderful cuisine palate that grew out of meeting new cultures. Maybe it could lead to becoming a Travel Agent, stewards(esses). A whole slue of working skills that could lead to Interpretuers, Chef de cuisine, teaching. Endless possibilities of people getting along and enjoying the bounty of our beautiful country.

College is rapidly becoming less of a physical location but rather a website. In my mind that is good because colleges that focus on woke BS, charge a mint to churn out worthless degrees will go the way of the dodo bird. And colleges that could be online that teach to get a job, nothing else, regardless of one’s race will excel. Vote with your feet and leave these glorified socialist reeducation camps.

You would think we have the most racist society ever. I doubt if there is anyone in the county except for gangs that treat people with hate. I treat Black people just like I do White people. If they are idiots I treat them like idiots if they are decent I treat them decently. People don’t need some creep in school laying guilt trips on them. What these classes will do is put guilt on White and other kids. Some of them will end up as anarchists like they have in Seattle and Portland.

Based on the comments above it seems a good idea to de-construct what a college education is. There is the knowledge part. The social part. The living away or at least attending classes away part. There is the complete focus on learning as opposed to learning as a hobby. There is getting some kind of certificate at the conclusion. Is all of this best done in person or at least as a commuting student, or best done on the internet. Cost is a consideration. So is having to spend hours on politics in classes you do not want because these general education classes are required by some administrator.

Long rant, you may not want to read it all.
Education has been going downhill for some time. Maybe for even longer than many of you have lived. What did you learn in the 2rd grade? I remember learning how to make close-pin dolls. Different school for the 3rd and over half, including me, of the class was flunked. Okay, skip that to a one room school in New Mexico with K to 9th. (Navajo reservation actually.) Learned how to read, learned math, learned some civics and history. I stayed ahead to graduation. Okay, skip to my brother in Jr High back here in California when my working mother recovered he could not actually read. But he could memorize whole blocks of what was read to him. When asked to explain why, the school said he was a good boy and didn’t cause problems so he was passed along. She taught him then and he now loves reading to this day. Later he went to Adult school for his diploma. Okay, skip to my grandchild. Came to me from a school across this county to the 5th grade in my town. Found out she couldn’t do much in the way of reading or math, tried to teach myself but it was an uphill battle. Asked for her to be kept back in the 5th and was told she was “too old” and had to go onto the 6th! While she was in Jr High I had the chance to be part of a group to decide what class books would be used. There were 3 different companies offering books. All of them had more pictures than text and not much real content. She did graduate but it was uphill for her. Okay, lets skip to when I decided to go to our local college to complete a simple AA. Not much education there either. One class the so call teacher (had a BA) put the book text on a screen and read it to the class. Homework was to take the (expensive) text book home and read it again there. I got the AA but who wouldn’t? Okay, skip that and go on to my great-grandchild. What on earth will the schools be able to teach in kindergarten? Finger painting at home?
Want to know what used to be taught in schools in my parents and grandparents time? Find a set of McGuffey’s K through 9th. Just going through the first one McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer is a real eye opener!
I have come to regard education of these days as where the students are suppose to be taught how to learn so they can self educate by the time they are working or college age.
Maybe tech and liberal arts schools should be separated. Keep politics out of tech schools.
I would like to see the anarchists in Seattle and Portland rounded up and find out where these kids went to school and what they were studying. I think we could learn what is going wrong.
One group should exam their own culture instead of placing blame for their failure elsewhere.
More classes that have nothing to do with what I am going to school for, more money for me to pay more time spent not finding my career focusing on other peoples issues! Getting real sick of my home state:(
