This is a ticket stub from the July 18, 1980 Blues Brothers’ (Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi) show at the Concord Pavilion.

This concert took place 40 years ago, TONIGHT!

Anybody go to this concert? Apparently they had a very large party after the show at the Concord Hilton.

No, I didn’t go – but I saw them at the last concert at Winterland, 31 December, 1978.
They played with The New Riders of The Purple Sage, The Flying Zaramazov Brothers (often not credited) and The Grateful Dead. I queued up at 5:30 in the morning to hold a place for the people in my party. Some people had been there for five days.

Very cool to post this. No, we were in Tracy in our first home at the time. Hubby, ex peace officer and more. Reminds me of him laughing as he died young. Thanks for the post. Side note: First time I went to the Pavilion was with my Music Teacher who performed as principal flutist from Sac State. Then I was. Nice memory.

I was there that night. Fantastic concert. Belushi flipped across the stage. The band was incredible.

Good for you to remember that long ago. I was wondering if anyone would pop up and say they were there.

Very cool Jack..

My Uncle was at the concert and he worked with somebody that was at the Hilton party.
She claimed Belushi was doing back flips down the hallway.
I always thought he had a stuntman doing that… not bad for a fat guy.

I was in high school and was most impressed at the time that Belushi did his own flips. I look back now and realize that the band was phenomenal and I didn’t fully appreciate them at the time.

Reminds me also of the fact that my husband as a peace officer in SF and from early on, knew the street, as cops do. A graduate of George Washington High in SF,he was part of the big “four” those guys from the City who could more than handle their own. He saved his friend’s lives more than once.

Blues Brother’s were one of his favorites. Perhaps because he was Catholic too, who knows. He met Sonny Barger in his youth on his harley, said not for him and moved on. Tough man, married a tough woman, few words and a good listener, me. I had the training also. I lived thru the Hells Angels at Altamont Speedway when young. So, all that is happening now, is nothing new, just more radicalized…

Thanks for sharing, Bella.

I was there. But my ticket wasn’t that ugly & cheap looking. I worked at the BASS corporate office in Oakland and we had really nice ticket stock.

We didn’t go to that one, but have been to several others. We went to the one the night after opening night to see Chuck Mangione.

Chuck Mangione, now there is a great horn player! “Feels So Good” is one of the best listening albums I’ve ever heard. I can play it over and over again. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard anyone mention him. Thanks for the memories.

I went to see Mangione there. Was the only time I bought seat tickets rather than the lawn.

Welcome, Ancient Mariner…

I was there!

That’s an awesome keepsake. I was still living in LA and didn’t move to Contra Costa until November of that same year.

There couldn’t have been a party at the Concord Hilton after this show because it didn’t open until 1982 (the same year John Belushi died).

You’re right! So where was this party with Belushi doing flips down the hallway…

This is true! Most likely was the old Holiday Inn.

Maybe it was the Sheraton ?
That was a great place to party back in the 80’s.
Big bar & loud music.
It was the first stop on the infamous “Herpes Triangle”

I love the stories, Thank you!! I wasn’t there, but we would play the movie every Friday night. For the music and to see the road trip. 😊

I was there, drove from Sacramento with my good friend. One of the best concerts, so much fun. I will always remember it!

I was there, To this day, I think this was THE best concert I have ever attended. It was one big party!!! Everyone in the place was up dancing and singing along.

Belushi and Ackroyd… so much energy! They had the place going wild.

Sad it can ever be duplicated!

So great to see a thread with no negative or political posts. Good one, Mayor!

It was probably The Concord Inn. That’s where all the Pavillion acts stayed before the Hilton. Willow Pass Rd. Owned by the Enea family. My mom worked there and met Waylon and Jessie, Red Skelton, Lily Tomlin and others.

I think too that, the Concord Inn housed most of the acts for the Pavillion, you could see the tour busses parked as you drove down Willow Pass Rd.

The band cooked! Belushi forgot the words on the third verse of “Expressway to Your Heart” and did cartwheels instead.

I was at this concert with my parents. I was 13. I still say this was one of the best concerts. Everyone was on their feet. Belushi wasn’t doing flips all over the stage. It was such an exciting & fun Show. I’ll never forget it.
