RELATED STORY: COVID-19 Test Results Taking 10-12 Days In Contra Costa County
Regarding outbreaks in LTCF, I think Dr. Farnitano is referring to the total of 25 — 16 active and 9 resolved.
Isn’t it weird how they just say 100,000 people got tested for COVID 19 but what they aren’t saying is that the same person could test himself once or twice a week and still be counted as another person being tested.
That was brought up in an earlier Q&A. The answer was that it happens so rarely they don’t bother with tracking it. It’s not going to change the numbers much should someone regularly get tested.
Another reason for counting someone two or more times is the number they care about is the ability to process tests at a sufficient volume to meet the state goalposts. If someone gets tested weekly it makes the numbers look better…
https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/indicators-dashboard says that the the goalposts at the moment are “At least 200 COVID-19 viral detection (PCR) tests are being conducted per 100,000 residents per day.” The indicators dashboard has a chart that shows the county is close to hitting the goalposts but so far it has not happened.
How many seasonal related flu deaths did we have last year?
@WC – you can look that up if you are genuinely curious. However, this seems to be more of an attempt to in some way lessen the risk of COVID. Follow the science, COVID has now killed far more people in four months than the seasonal flu does in an entire year. Additionally, the seasonal flu tends to be more prevalent during winter. Hope COVID doesn’t pick up speed later this year.
Sure, if you count all the “deaths that were not from COVID, but the person happened to be “positive” and the hospital wanted more money.
I had random blood work done yesterday at CoCo Regional Medical Center & the Lab asked me if I wanted to have a COVID-19 test since I’m getting my blood drawn anyway.
I did & came back Negative today.
Yet, there’s still people & the media saying tests are not available.
@DVC Student,
You had an antibody test that tests for past infections if they tested using blood. The viral test using the nasal swab is what is used for current infections and testing is backlogged partially due to the number people needing test and supply issues.
@ DVC Student
While that is your experience, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a strain on testing capacity. A relative of mine recently had a test and waited 12 days for results. Both of these are anecdotal evidence, but your own singular experience does not mean that there are not bottlenecks on testing that need to be expanded.
Thank you for sharing your experience, it is relevant. Anecdotal or not it matters. Your point is valid because others have had your same experience. Some are getting emails the next day, others in a few days and others in a week or so. Depends on where they are tested.
Wear a face covering when you’re out and about. It’s not that difficult or inconvenient. If we ALL did this, the numbers would look a lot better. Thanks in advance for complying 👍
This update used to include the number tested the previous day. Why has that figure been deleted/omitted? The positives divided by the number tested equals the positivity rate.
Time to flip that dimmer switch to ON!
The old / sick / whiners / scared CNN watchers can stay home, the rest of us need to get back to life.
To continue at this pace is criminal.
@mitch – couldn’t agree more! It totally worked for Florida, Texas and Arizona. All we need is a few refrigerated trucks and extra body bags to make up for those who refuse to wear a mask…. we should be good to go.
Most other developed countries have the virus under control and are reopening, while the numbers are surging here. The reason is all the mask haters / trump voters / Fox News watchers / conspiracy theorists / protesters (yes those too) keep spreading the virus.
So the irony is that the people who are most vocal about reopening are exactly the reason why we can’t.
Well put WC dad. Yes, a tragic irony. Mask up people. ALL of you !
@Dan and @WC Dad – You both nailed it. Thanks.
IMO–many people feel the need to socialize. And refuse to let go of the “gathering” that goes along with it. I am not OK with this. Don’t tell me that the picnic last weekend at Cowell Park were all members of your household. Some were wearing masks, many were not. I just drove through the parking lot, hoping to find a shady spot, alone and under a tree to escape the heat. it didnt happen
Drama. Crowell park is huge..drama
