Additional officers from the Concord Police Department will be out on patrol July 10 from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Concord Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they need to run essential errands, “Safety is paramount, but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Lt. Mark Robison said. “We are all in this together and want everyone to be as safe as possible when they are out. One way to do that is by not driving impaired.”
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI will pay a stiff price: an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Don’t drink and Drive!…..You might spill your Drink.
Dean Martin’s famous line.
Thanks for the information, I’ll take the backroads
Why tomorrow? Shouldn’t it have been last weekend?
If you break out in spots, . . . east Brentwood in an orchard or ya find your car at the bottom of a ravine in the morning, with you in it.
You might have a problem with alcohol.
Order from Drizly, then stay home.
I wish they didn’t have to advise the public of these sweeps in advance.
How will they smell someones breath for alcohol from 6 ft away?
The police don’t really have to smell alcohol, they have sensors on their flashlights and clipboards that can detect alcohol in the ambient air around a person.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, Concord Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they need to run essential errands…”
“Essential errands” on a Friday night between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM? Lol!
Why not be honest and say that’s when the drunks are out and they are most likely to find drunk drivers?
While they are at it, how about they look for illegal fireworks as well?
Well their funding is being cut so your gonna see the cops giving tickets for anything they can and you bet they will go for big ticket fine pull overs..
Truth is, there are less cops on the street now than ever before so being pulled over for anything is a low percentage.
The cops ARE out there. Where you used to see 2 police cars parked window to window in a church parking lot, you now see 3.
These check points are unconstitutional. I know a lot of conservative people that do not have a problem with them.
So to my fellow conservatives. Why not have Covid check points where every one gets stopped? Instead of the Cops, we have health officials all decked out in white hazmat suits. They can question everyone about how they are feeling, take their temperatures and if needed have them pull into the nearest parking lot and get tested. They can also cite people for not having the proper PPE. If a vaccine is discovered we can then have vaccine check points.
Walking around with an infectious disease or not adhering to the local health orders is just as dangerous to society as driving drunk is, right?
Why can’t the IRS and the State of Ca. set up random check points to catch all those people that are not paying their fair share? By not paying your taxes you are causing great harm to society, right?
Fellow citizens stop giving up your liberty. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
It is not a check point. It is a saturation patrol.
These are saturation patrols and I’m glad to see them, particularly instead of checkpoints. There is way too little traffic enforcement these days and it really shows.
They should do a saturation car burglary patrol.
what BS, keeping the public safe when they run essential errands during the covid19. who is running essential errands from 9 pm to 3 am.? In fact, have you seen how light the traffic is at nite these days? To use additional officers on top of it is a waste of a grant. the money should be used for road repair etc. I am pretty sure a normal shift can handle the very few DUI’s from 9 pm- 3 am during the COVID 19.
To add, There was 1 DUI arrest in concord from 06-20-2020 to 06-30-2020 according to the concord police log.
Excellent! I’m all for it. Given all of the people speeding and chaging lanes without signaling on Clayton Rd and on Ygnacio Valley Rd, the police should have no problem finding cars to pull over for specific cause.
I hope that they saturate the area on Willow Pass near the Concord Pavilion. That would lead to the Pittsburg/Antioch folks thinking twice before driving while impaired through the 94521.
