China Gourmet in Martinez. Been going there 2 years now and very pleased with their food, service and price. Would like to hear which other Chinses Restaurant are good and tasty too.
nope, Shan Shan Low has cockroaches, went there for lunch one time, needed an extra chair, he pulled one from another table and it had a live cockroach on the seat of the chair, he just flicked it off and gave it to me to sit on. We all looked at each other and said no way and we walked out, Have not been back since.

Really like China Moon (Moraga) and China House (Pinole).
Is that the one on Clayton rd that was once an A&W? I have liked it in the past but it changed ownership and wasn’t as good (or maybe I just didn’t like the change). Do you know how long it has been owned by the current owners?
Yup. Hunan. It’s been the same owners for a couple of decades now. The same family has been working it for a long time. The original owners sold it and opened a place in Antioch called “New Hunan”. Not even sure if it’s still there, or if they still own it. But the one on Clayton Road is great!
I love ok cafe

OK Cafe in Concord hands down has the best food, the best prices, and the best service!
Chinese Kitchen on Clayton Road! We have been going to this hidden gem for 28 years. The Lunch Special is a great deal and I love their Hot and Sour Soup. I hope they re-open soon!
I use to deliver for CK. Didn’t pay much and was rough on my car. At least I got a free dinner and if I was really good they would cook it up fresh and maybe a couple of prawns.
I think Chinese Kitchen might have closed down. For the past 2 months been trying to order from there but no one picks up. Loved the food.

I used to like Yet Wah in Crockett, but it was replaced by The Dead Fish. There was a Yet Wah on Clayton Road too. Uncle Yu’s in San Ramon was really good, but it also closed. I also liked Lok Tao in Park ‘N Shop, but it too closed.
So, at this point, Sichuan Fortune House in P.Hill.

China Palace is amazing! Judy and her family run an amazing restaurant with so many tasty dishes. There are many Chinese restaurants closer to my house, but I go to Judy’s restaurant every chance I get.
Our family has known her since she was a waitress before they opened China Palace. She always asks how everyone in the family is doing, and she truly cares about the answer.
For excellent Chinese food, you can’t beat China Palace.

Shan Shan Low. I love it, but it’s easy to forget how great it is because of the reasonable prices and shabby location. But the food is great and the service is dynamite. Waiters in bow ties, quick service, and excellent food. It used to be we’d go somewhere fancy for family occasions, but now we just go to Shan Shan Low.

sadly, I no longer have one; need to find a new place.
My fav was closed down twice by the health dept in a matter of a month or two…. Just can’t go back…Won’t name them cause they may be ok now, but I’m not waiting for a strike 3……………
Hunan is the only one that you mentioned that I’ve tried, actually many times over the years they’ve been there, because they’re nearby. We’ve never eaten it in their dining room, but I see people doing so when I’ve picked up our food. It makes me nostalgic for the A&W too.😉 Once my mom had a dinner party and ordered a bunch of stuff and they brought it to her house. We go there because it’s convenient, but it’s pretty good too, so you may want to give them a try if they’re close.
IMO, Double Dragon is very over rated. I went there a couple times and thought the food was just okay. Give Uncle Wang’s a try in Pittsburg, the quality of food is so much better. The place is literally a hole in the wall with very little seating, but they are the best. My family grew up in San Francisco and this is the closest we can get in quality in the area.

barbecue restaurants. Someone recommended
The Embers in Pinole. Now it’s our new favorite
place to go. Also thanks to The Claycorder who
shared the great tip! Getting onto the subject,
The China Villa in Pinole is also very tasty.
Whatever you do never eat at New Lims on Clayton.
I’ve gotten baby cockroaches in my order FYI, and when I took it back so I could get my money back the chick suggested I put them in SMH never been back.
Yuk. We gave up on them a few years ago too, but we used to eat there a good bit. The prices went up while the food quality went down, service got bad and they got rude and surly, and they started getting closed down. Bad combination.

There used to be a Hunan Express on Treat by CVS across from TOGOs that was very good. Does anybody know, was that related to the Hunan in the old A&W building on Clayton Rd? If it is, I’m THERE.
Seriously, this is the best American Chinese food on this side of the Caldecott tunnel all the way down to Dublin. This is coming from someone that lived in San Francisco. I highly recommend the following:
Hong Kong Style Combo Chow Mein
Sesame Beef
Salt and Pepper Fish
Princess Prawns
Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings
Dry Cooked Green Beans
Minced Beef Soup with Cilantro
Elite Egg Plant
Braised Tofu
We liked China Wall till we got a mild case of food poisoning there one Christmas evening. It was not a slow night. There were three of us eating, only two got it. Grew up on Chinese Kitchen in El Monte. Worked right across the street in the 60s, but haven’t been there in years. There was a large Chinese restaurant on North Main in Walnut Creek that was really great in the 70s. They even had pressed duck but you had to order it a day ahead. Excellent food.
More recently, I like Panda Express mainly because you can see the food being prepared, and it’s so popular you get freshly prepared almost anytime of day. There food really doesn’t have time to sit around and age. With the virus thing and the take out arrangements, I have not been quite so enthusiastic. They are still very busy, but you can’t see them cooking which for some reason I find reassuring with all the questionable inspections I’ve read about restaurants in the area.
The Peking restaurant on N Main in the 70’s was thee best. Now we won’t go anywhere except China Palace next to bevmo. Always great food, great service and friendly owners Jason and Judy and family.

Acme Express in Martinez was the best I’ve found. I’m *really* particular about Chinese food because so many places are so gross.
Sichuan Fortune House for REAL Chinese food, unlike much of what most have had.

Only correct answer is Sunflower Garden in Martinez

I haven’t been to O-Town since my fave restaurant closed a few years back.
Plenty of people on here like plenty of different places. So you must be mistaken.
Mandarin Gardens on Monument, a wonderful North Chinese/Korean mixture fusion thing.
Uncle Yu’s in Lafayette.
I “dine” at Panda Express about once a year just to recalibrate my “Zero Quality Baseline”…
Mann’s off of Concord Blvd in the same shopping center as Cinco de Mayo and Fitness 19. Get the bobo platter, it is the best IMO!
Ming’s hands down
Pleasant hill ming’s is so good
Jade Garden in Walnut Creek California. It is a family owned business.
Sunflower garden in Martinez is the best
Hunan on Clayton Rd in Concord. Haven’t gotten a bad meal.
If you’re looking for good food AND a nice atmosphere, check out The Great Wall in Lafayette.
I know I’ll catch flak for this but the title of this thread should be “The Best Non PF Changs Chinese Reataraunt…”
Creek House Dim Sum. I loved their predecessor, too.
