The Concord Design Review Board this evening will discuss plans for a proposed 86-room hotel on Market St., in between Willow Pass Rd. and Clayton Rd.
The proposed Hilton Hampton Inn would be located at 1880 Market, just south of the All-Star gas station, and across the street from the Concord Park & Ride lot.
The proposed building would be four-stories high.
A hotel might spruce up the looks of that corner.
I sure hope it won’t be as popular as the Pleasant Hill hotels with the thieves and robbers.
I think some aquariums and some stung fish would work best.
would this be a state tax funded bum hotel that newscum was saying when he said the state was looking into building or buying hotels to house the people on the street
this seems fast tracked all ready
since anytime the review board is so excited to post their name on a new project it usually means the city council is not far behind approving it
out of nowhere as well that area is not a real good fit for a hotel …traffic nightmare as it is with that poorly designed intersection
now a 86 room hotel there again in that area surrounded by section 8 apartments a raged gas station and directly 20 feet from meadow lane
seems ripe for a newscum tax paid lazy 8……
with easy access for the panhandlers to accost people exiting 242
who are staying at the hotel newscum
again why are we paying for a city planner whos only objective is to the demise of the city in favor of democrat agenda builds
the roads still are not fixed
What crazy restrictions on the Hilton to make them go away to?
Who would want to stay there?
The homeless meth prostitutes that hang out in the area?
Seriously, Concord has to do something about the drugs and homeless in that area. I get offers for drugs and prostitution every time I walk downtown.
Looks like a nightmare to me. Probably be used for one-night (or one hour) stands and other nefarious acts. And for the more or less law abiding guests, imagine walking home from a restaurant after a couple of drinks. Wouldn’t be too difficult to get mugged or hit by a car.
If approved, are they going to house the homeless there? From Willow Pass Rd. down Market St. to Meadow Ln. and Monument Blvd. there is a huge homeless population.
It’s also a filthy neighborhood, littered with discarded clothes and food containers, with a couple of empty booze bottles thrown in.
If they are going to build a hotel, they better get to repaving Meadow Ln. and cleaning it up.
Is there really that much demand for hotels in the area? They just built the new one in Pleasant Hill by the Gregory off-ramp… Who is staying in these hotels and why are these companies so eager to invest this money in these new buildings?
Please tell me about this new hotel in Pleasant Hill by the Gregory off-ramp.
Sex workers and their fans are going to love this in-out venue. You
well, it’s within stumbling distance of chuck e cheese so it’s got that going for it…
who would even want to stay there? Ohhh….maybe the homeless.
I guess it would make the corner look nice, but the streets are still in poor shape. What ever happened to Concord? We used to have streets to be proud of with the most lush landscaping around. Now it looks like a craphole with potholes.
Now there’s an idea💡
Have people crap in the potholes to fill them up, problem solved 😆
We need a new amendment so we can say n choose what goes on in our communities without these politicians and bureaucrats doing what they please I don’t think we have democracy these days. I remember residents complaining about the Safeway they put on Ygnacio people didn’t want that and they just did it.
I suggest you read Concord’s General Plan. It’s the city’s broad policy and land use blueprint going forward. It is written using the community’s input and yes, you can shape the future but only if you want to be part of the future.. rather holed in your home being a keyboard commando.
Bill Cutting’s comments are a great example of what happens when people start believing that those they elect are leaders rather than representatives.
Take a look at the City Organizational Chart.
It says the Citizens of Concord Represented by the Mayor and the City Council.

They work for you.
Start treating them like the troubled employees they are.
Useless very useless only mean shelter in place for homeless also the hotel not gonna even be close to downtown.
look like a three stars hotel to me maybe even lower.
My silent investors and I approve of this development.
So many negative comments. The rooms at Hilton Hampton Inns cost a hundred a night minimum. This hotel is not going to be a flop house.
The location is going to be really close to the Gateway office buildings, which makes sense for a mid-range hotel. It will be a short walk to Swift Plaza and all the other office buildings downtown. For business people who use the hotel there is a FedEx Office Center nearby too. The location is close to a lot of restaurants.
Hotels like to be freeway adjacent, so this location will be good for them and for their customers. It’s close enough to BART that people flying in can also take BART from SF or Oakland and get to the hotel here in Concord.
Taxes from the hotel will help raise revenue for roads and needs.
You are correct, The Hampton Inn is one “concept” below the Hilton Garden Inn. They serve both business and family travelers.
Telecommuting is moving into high gear, many business’s (even tech) are having layoffs, and business air travel is curtailed. I have to wonder if the math still works.
I worked in Concord Gateway II for 3 years about 10 years ago. It’s not the best location and the hotel is not the best location either. You have sketchy apartments to the south and Park and Shop to the north. It’s too far to walk from BART and even if one is up to it, it’s not a good idea to walk in that area at night. But the biggest question I have is: who would that hotel serve? Last I checked, the occupancy rate at Concord Gateway was not exactly bursting at the seams and Swift Plaza has been a shell since IBM abandoned it for India.
@anonymous
Swift Plaza was a ghost town 4 or 5 years ago. But just prior to Covid, you could barely find a parking spot in their enormous parking structure. Many businesses have moved in (Wells Fargo being the largest) and I believe there are hardly any (if any) vacancies in any of the 4 buildings.
I would imagine that the hotel’s 86 rooms could be filled mostly by visitors to the offices at the Swift Plaza alone. I would see lots of people with luggage going into and out of the buildings and parking structure at Swift on a daily basis; I know our company would utilize it. It’s probably why Mark Hall had plans of building a hotel as part of his defunct stadium idea. There is a need for a nice hotel closer to the Bart Station and Swift property.
I believe this is privately owned property (the city does not own that land), so the role the city is playing is more of zoning/approval and not one of owning/investing in the development.
Nat dear you’re not a native so difficult to spot that detail huh ?
So you can build hotels but you can’t fix the damn roads. That’s awesome!
I hope this does not put the cat house across from the Concord PD out of business.
Uncle Theodis say’s it better not get closed, he still has a gift card.
Camp Bow Wow? I hear they have some real dogs in there.
What a lovely vacation spot.
Why don’t you just install a fountain of doof???
can’t make the traffic in that area sny better with the 680 on ramp right there.
If relatives want you to show them around the Bay Area, where do you put them? It’s very inconvenient if they have to stay in Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill, or even the Hilton. I have found that to be problematic. There’s nothing decent on this side of town, and I know it’s a PITA for the people of Clayton. Surprisingly the dumps are all filled up several weeks in advance in Summer, at least around graduation time.. usually.
the the the the the the the the patrons do not enjoy freeway noises at all. AND half a block or two away on villain past rd. there is a con stant stream of j walkers passing back and forth creating a serious safety con cern . If you are going to have cake and eat it too then by all means ponder it sum more,
.
oh and by the way the glare that beams off the adjacent lots is very fickling so doh no mo.
Thank you exactly the comment I was expecting
Since I was educated here
Berating me for expressing my opinion
Pointing out my actions as childish
As if I supported legalized theft or mismanaged city funds and did not manage street improvements correctly or brought in millions of illegals and housed them in section 8 housing ….which left American citizens on the streets
Instead of addressing opinions you berate them and throw derogatory remarks while slamming them
If I were educated properly I would be able to figure out why your so peeved at remarks against officials who have botched this state and city of concord into despair and poverty so much so the streets are crumbling and store fronts are empty businesses are leaving and we the tax payers are paying over 350k for a city planner that can’t even address basic needs but approve and supports a soccer stadium that we tax payers are on the hook for
By your comments it appears I was right that his hotel is a Newsom housing scheme for street people
No I am not angry or oppressed or even irritated
Just saying what I see
And boy I would love to see nice flowers and clean air and new roads and clean productive commerce
But it’s been trampled on by officials bent on destroying and controlling for their own benefit
But I digress
Your opinions matter and are factual and concise and educated
Ca you help us ….please
I’m late to the conversation but … what a horrible location. The tragic flow all the way around that spot is and wound be really bad.
NO!
There’s a huge empty lot just north of CPD and another off Galindo between Clayton Rd and Concord Blvd. Are those not better locations? Who owns those lots?
We need more family educational attractions. How about a children’s museum or aquarium? Or a year round ice skating or roller skating rink?
