Let us be free and play softball! N

I work for a local retail store, we opened to the public last week and now 3 of our employees have Covid-19. I understand people are sick of being at home, but this forced re-open is crazy. Once fall/winter arrived, things will get way worse.

Sorry to hear that hope they that, hope they get well soon.
Which store?

Curious, does your retail store follow the rules? All employees wear masks and provide hand sanitizer, have plastic in front of registers, require customers to wear a mask? The “essential” stores have been doing it and aren’t getting sick.

That smells like fake news for many reasons. What’s the name of the store and what city is it located in?

@ bayarea … really? I call your bluff.

I’m sorry to hear this, but not at all surprised. I hope they recover without complications.

@WC Resident

I agree completely. I work grocery, have been working this entire time, and we didn’t do masks for the first half either. None of us have gotten sick. 3 people getting sick within the first 4 days of reopening sounds like either BS, or they brought it with them to work from somewhere else.

“Forced reopen”? I have never heard of such a thing. Thou shalt open a business. What a way to grow the economy! You there … yes you. You aren’t doing anything productive. I order you to open a business.

Wow! No more unemployed. No more homeless.

It’s not forced and we will not be able to just wait this thing out any longer. People are going to get sick, but the vast majority will be OK.

Wage Slave makes an interesting point, why would non-grocery retail be so disproportionately, and quickly, affected? Why would non-grocery retail be worse than the protesters/rioters?

@ Bayarea. Numerous doctors have talked about this. Dr. Dan Erickson is one of many. Never ever have the healthy been quarantined, you always quarantine the sick. When you quarantine the healthy for months , when they are finally released , you are going to see a surge. Because When healthy people are kept locked up their immune systems go down . People need to be out with other people that is how you get herd immunity. Herd immunity is obtained by this method or vaccine , either method works.
Covid is not a death sentence. 98-99% recover of people recover. If you have 100 people , 98 will recover, 2 will die because of existing co-morbidities . We need to be open. No one is talking about the increase in depression, suicides, alcohol and drug addiction relapses, domestic violence, child abuse , the hopelessness and despair that people feel , not knowing when they will be able to pay their bills. Many don’t have savings. I have see all this first hand , I am a healthcare professional In a hospital. The numbers are dropping. The numbers that you see posted for covid, include people that have tested positive for antibodies, which means they had it and haver recovered. Just like chicken pox etc , you will test positive for antibodies so it is not a true count. The CDC just admitted that they made a mistake in their numbers, What a surprise ! Wash your hands , cover your cough and sneeze , stay home if you are sick , you will be fine.

Just wanted to say ‘AMEN’!

I agree with everything you said. The new numbers being released are showing us that this is no were near as bad as our government and media tried to (succeeded with many!) scare us with.

The truth is spilling out of this comment… and onto the liberal foreheads.

Haven’t you heard? Only the right can be selfish!

I have no clue what you are babbling about, but I’d like to congratulate you on having the longest run-on sentence in the history of the world.

World-renowned epidemiologist Dr. Larry Brilliant of Mill Valley is warning that now is not the time for complacency in the battle against the coronavirus. . . “We have not gone over a peak,” Brilliant said. “We have not even passed the first wave. We are early in this pandemic.”

He said the virus is spreading exponentially, with each person who contracts it passing it on to between two and 2.4 people on average. The World Health Organization, which Brilliant worked with on an effort to eradicate smallpox, has projected that the coronavirus pandemic will hit new highs next week, with 7 million people infected and 400,000 deaths globally.

“And to our shame,” Brilliant said, “the United States accounts for more than a quarter of all the deaths in the world.” — https://usa-newsposts.com/culture/marin-epidemiologist-larry-brilliant-virus-crisis-just-beginning/

An epidemiologist is who is also the a Senior advisor to a Film Producer (Jeff Skoll), a CEO of a private foundation that drives social change, a Vice President at Google, and now a Ted Talk giver … blah blah blah …

His contribution on Small Pox was a 10 year stretch in India where he worked to eradicate Small Pox in Southeast Asia.

Sorry, but where is the study of disease in his resume? He seems more about social action and change, then disease. As a disease expert, I would expect to him highlight his own experience in say, diseases, not google and social change.

In your article, he states that the mortality rate is 5%, but we have not seen that anywhere else, so he knows more than the WHO, CDC and people who practice epidemiology? He is political in this article, as he states, the hot spots are those red states that support Trump.

He says wearing masks is the most impactful action people can take … yet many doctors are questioning that practice because the virus can still travel through the fabric or between the gaps between your face and the mask because most people are not wearing it right.

yeah, I am not putting much credit into this guy who is speaking about diseases as the former VP of Google. LOL

Dan: I believe you saw that number, but I just do not believe the NY Times anymore because their political agenda seems to influence everything they say. As reported in USA Today on June 5, the CDC reported their guess for fatality is 0.26%.

OK, well the most egregious behavior I have seen in defiance of COVID recommendations, is the protesters/rioters? Will you publicly condemn their dangerous behavior? If not, you just can’t be that concerned about COVID.

Hey Dan, that wasn’t directed specifically at you, but sort of just a rhetorical question towards some people in general. I should have made that more clear. I was expressing frustration at the capricious nature of many people’s opinion on the lockdown issue. I have seen over the course, a sort of tribe mentality develop, that’s translated into real consequences for the rest of it. As someone who is not clearly a member of either tribe, I find it very frustrating that many people’s opinion on what activities you are allowed to conduct seem to be significantly influenced on whether they align with their own ideologies. As someone who just follows the rules, it is punishing people like me unfairly.

I find it frustrating, that there are many people calling to continue restricting legit activities, that are comparatively lower risk than other activities, while supporting activities that are much higher risk by their own standards, simply because it aligns with their ideology. Such as, mass protests and riots with people crammed together on a daily basis. There has been a pretty obvious effort to suppress certain groups’ right to protest, while encouraging others, simply based on whether it aligns with a political ideology. I think it is a very dangerous precedence to set, that should really concern anyone of any political ideology. It could turn around and bite all of us.

To add to that frustration, one activity of mine that has been canceled is volunteering in a low income area. The organization I volunteer at, was forced to close due to Covid restrictions. The activity itself, would be lower risk than cramming myself into a giant crowd of people and, in some cases, going around disrupting other legal activities and destroying our society. Rather than being able to make a legitimate, tangible difference in our society- as I have tried to do my entire life, I have to listen to sanctimonious hypocrites continue to dole out arbitrary restrictions I am supposed to follow, while they just do whatever they want. Likely, just making things worse for the people they claim to want to help. Again, not directed at you, just in response to a phenomenon I’m seeing on here a lot.

as of 06/07:

1,668 confirmed cases in CCC with 39 deaths = 2.34% death rate.

Kauai Mike…… “There have been 39 “coronavirus-related” deaths in Contra Costa”.
Notice how it says “related” that means the virus was not necessarily the cause of death…. kinda makes that 2.34% number meaningless.

@Brandi – A coronavirus does not itself kill you. It can trigger a host of other issues that do kill you. That’s why it’s phrased as a coronavirus-related death.

So if a perfectly fit person with no health issues whatsoever gets the Corona Virus and dies from Pulmonary Edema the Corona Virus still isn’t the lone cause of death? There is no distinction from others with complicating issues? No such thing as a distinct “Died of CV” diagnosis?

That’s correct. The virus itself can’t kill you. It can cause a host of issues that result in your death. The virus kills individual cells. If enough cells in an organ are killed then the organ is unable to do its part of keeping you alive.

To simplify things, we will often say a person died of COVID-19 rather than listing the domino trails of COVID-19 caused organ failures that subsequently resulted in the death.

Contra Costa county used the phase “coronavirus-related death” in a press announcement on March 20th and in another on April 3rd. Claycord continues to use that phrase in their daily reports. The county uses “deaths from COVID-19” on their main dashboard that Claycord is basing their reports on. The county’s Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) dashboard has “deaths of COVID-19” and “Deaths of residents and staff of LTCFs due to COVID-19.”

Covid-19 is still around and contagious. After months of publicity the government relaxes some restrictions with the hope that people will use good judgement by distancing and wearing masks. Sadly, some people react as if the pandemic is over. Be smart and be safe.

For the week of 5/30/2020 to 6/6/2020 we have:
Age 20 or under increased by 38 cases which is 17.6% of the total increase.
Age 21 to 30 increased by 39 cases which is 18.1% of the total increase.
Age 31 to 40 increased by 42 cases which is 19.4% of the total increase.
Age 41 to 50 increased by 36 cases which is 16.7% of the total increase.
Age 51 to 60 increased by 23 cases which is 10.6% of the total increase. There was 1 death in the past week in this age range.
Age 61 to 70 increased by 14 cases which is 6.5% of the total increase.
Age 71 to 80 increased by 12 cases which is 5.6% of the total increase. There was 1 death in the past week in this age range.
Age 81 to 90 increased by 9 cases which is 4.2% of the total increase. There was 1 death in the past week in this age range.
Age Over 90 increased by 3 cases which is 1.4% of the total increase. There was 1 less in the past week in this age range.
The total increased by 216 cases. There were two or three deaths in the past week.

We are back to the normal profile with fewer cases among older people as they are more careful about shelter in place.

The deaths were:
5/31/2020 Someone was removed from the over 90 age group and someone was added to the 81-90 age group. I suspect this was an age correction for one person.
6/2/2020 Someone in the 71-80 age group died.
6/6/2020 Someone in the 51-60 age group died.

Just as people get fed up we hear “Due to science and data we are now going to phase 2”. Then a couple weeks go by and we have all the protesting completely ignoring social distancing. Californians start to feel duped, and then it’s “Due to science and data we are now going to phase 3”. Now the Church people are fired up so we will get another “Science and data” announcement for them. Next one of two things happens:

1-Corona virus spikes due to protesting and our Governor blames us for being racists and causing the protests.
Or
2-There is no spike in the virus and our Governor creates a diversion so he doesn’t have to address needlessly crashing the California economy or the aborted mask deal.

We lose either way.

For all of you who are scared of Covid – 19 stay home!!! For those who are not- go back to work and keep the economy going. That will help our family’s and the people who are scared safe with the tax revenue
and keep business open. The other option…. stay home and cower. The result… enemies will come in and F our women and breed a heartier race. HISTORY IS ON MY SIDE.

My favorite lies were… “Dr Fauci says………………..” he’s an idiot

Contra Costa Supervisors and “Health” officials

Its too late. Thanks to your unconstitutional actions, our business has been forced to close. I am beyond disgusted with you.

You, not COVID-19, is the real danger.

Judging by CNN dot com, the riots and protesting are no longer useful to Democrats, so they have gone back to Covid. All their top stories this morning were Covid related, with protest/riot stuff much subdued down page. I’m guessing they have seen the polling (or been directly instructed by Democrats) and finally figured out pressuring the Dems to defund police, prevent the military from keeping our cities from burning, and calling all of America complicit in White Supremacy is not going to help Democrats get elected. It will all be quietly memory-holed while Covid will return as the whip to lash Republicans with.

What an absolutely farcical time of lies, deceit, and manipulation we live in.

Make no mistake. Things are reopening not because the data says it is safe to do so. It never will be “safe” until herd or vaccine immunity, and neither are close. They are reopening because the economy is in shambles, and taxes and funding are absolutely destroyed. It was obvious this was economically impossible to sustain 2 months ago, risk or no risk.

All of this is simply a plausibly deniable way of changing course once budgetary reality smacked the politicos in the face. It could have happened over a month ago if they had been less obstinate and political.

Exactly. They dance around burning the bay area down, they say that white officers are killing black people… all these “protesters” are going to end up killing grandma. The blood is on their hands..

Democrat riots, looting and demonstrations will lead to a huge second wave. All of us suffered and did our part to flatten the curve and a bunch of liberals threw it all into the fire.

, Very true, but will the voters hold the Dems responsible come election time, or vote them into office as usual?

The rioting started almost 2 weeks ago, right? No social distancing among rioters and protesters for close to 2 weeks. Where is the explosion in COVID-19 cases? I’m waiting.

To “Anonymous,”

Why do you say the protestors aren’t potentially spreading the virus? anyone can do the math (or should be able to) and figure out the percentages of deaths are low, compared to those who have contracted the virus. In turn, the number of those who have tested positive are low to the population as a whole, though no one knows how many of us are asymptotic.

What you need to grasp is that, by staying home and also following guidelines in and out of the house, helps PREVENT the spread of CV. This virus can spread exponentially and not all carriers will have symptoms. We’ll see what easing up on restrictions will have done, when the second wave happens this fall and winter! This thing is NOT over!

I assume you mean asymptomatic, not asymptotic, correct? Anyway, yesterday the WHO published an article stating asymptomatic spread is rare.

And since day one the CDC insisted, and continues to insist, that mitigation only slows the spread of the virus, it does not prevent transmission.

To “Parent,”

Why do you say the media is scaring us with reporting factual numbers? It is what it is and anyone can do the math (or should be able to) and figure out the percentages of deaths are low, compared to those who have contracted the virus.

This thing is NOT over.

The media has a duty to keep their ratings up, but to say they are providing false numbers isn’t necessarily true. There are many ways to report numbers and emphasize certain portions, especially when referring to total deaths in the world or in the US. Those numbers are scary, but the actual percentage of deaths compared to the population as a whole is low.

Regardless, CV is a pandemic, a disease prevalent in our whole world. Heeding stay at home measures helps keep the pandemic from spreading into much larger percentages. As individuals, we each need to decide if we wish to be part of the solution or part of the spread.

For many, the choice is extremely difficult, as they need to work to survive, while others get paid while staying at home, due to being part of a union or prearranged business agreement. It isn’t fair and never will be. If our government was truly concerned about fighting this pandemic, they would continue to enforce stay at home orders and support their citizens financially until the pandemic is truly manageable. They would have also distributed the CARE funds to small businesses instead of big corporations! But, look who’s in charge of running this country…I needn’t say more!

However, don’t diminish this pandemic by saying the media is just trying to scare us. We’re all aware of their tactics, but that doesn’t change the truth now, does it?—-
