I once had the pleasure of speaking with a member of the old Danville pioneer family of Podva. This old fellow told me that in the 1800’s everything south of Livermore (Las Positas = Little Wells) was desert.

I’m so thankful that we got this information. It really is going to make such a difference in my life. It’s just…it’s just so moving and important. I’m glad they had a special article set aside specifically for this weather update. I’m going to pass this along to everyone I know. I might even sign up for Twitter so I can reach more people faster. This is a big deal! I mean, a half inch?! Get ready, people!
In this part of the world (semi-arid climate) this is actually quite unusual. The official rainy season ended on April 15 (construction permits, Erosion Control Plans, SWPPPs, etc.) There is occasionally a mid-summer (warm) thunderstorm in July or August, but now we are about to experience a continuation of the ordinary rain. I have been watching the rain for several decades – I don’t recall seasonal rain coming this late.
I have a sad reason for remembering what the weather pattern on and around May 16th has been like in Concord since 1989. Almost ALWAYS there is precipitation at that time…… seldom much, but it is there.
Thanks all, I stand corrected. Your memories work better than mine!

Rain is coming, huh? Well, I better check to be sure the batteries inside our flashlights are working as well as checking to see if we have enough canned foods. What else should I check off on the list in case there is power outage during the heavy rain storm?
I have been tracking the weather at this time of year for the last 50 years. It usually rains on May 5th as well as a few days before and after. Rain around the 18th has occurred a few times over the years. Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

Look on positive side, you can sit down with your kids and teach them about Tenths, Thousands, percentages (of normal rainfall) and don’t pass up opportunity to talk about fractions.
Less than a tenth of an inch forecast for each day of the next few days for Concord.
Other areas may fare better.
I’m going to go out and water my lawn now.

Truthfully, I’m thankful for the rain.

Back in 1997 we had lots of rain in May. It’s not unusual but it’s not usual..
And don’t forget 2011 when we had a few days of rain in late June.
When I move to the Bay Area in 1991 that summer there were often morning showers into July.
