Hiring in the Bay Area is down 25 percent since February when concerns over the coronavirus started ramping up in the region, according to Joint Venture Silicon Valley and data from LinkedIn.

Nationwide, hiring dropped 21 percent. Other metropolitan areas suffered greater declines than the Bay Area, with hiring in Chicago off 40 percent, Los Angeles down by 38 percent and hiring in Phoenix slipping 37 percent.

Hiring in all but one industry segment dropped in April. Hiring nationwide in the hardware and networking segment actually rose 2 percent, the data showed.

Only the beginning

We could pull off the band aid at any moment, but our dear leaders want to protect us from the disease with the 99.5% survival rate that kills people mostly near or past average life expectancy.

Every single day this needlessly goes on, the stakes get higher, more businesses pull the plug, and more people lose hope.

OPEN UP CONTRA COSTA COUNTY NOW

It is time to stop this shutdown. It is obvious that this is not about the virus anymore.

Ya think??? Our economy has been folded, spindled and mutilated by these extreme house arrest measures. A message has been sent that we are all repositories of infection and disease, and so we (many people) want nothing to do with one another. Instead of going to local stores and restaurants, people order from Amazon and cook at home.

One of my doctors said his business was down 80%, had to lay off his Physician’s Assistant and half of his staff, with the rest reduced to part time. Says he isn’t taking in enough to make rent. BTW- I suspect he hasn’t diagnosed anyone with cancer lately, so I wonder what happens to the economy when we have more advanced cases, rather than cancer which can be easily treated?

Have you noticed friends and acquaintances who were formerly very quiet people are now becoming outspoken and militant?

They can’t keep things shut down much longer, and the election is still a long way out. Something has to give.

It’s time for big picture apolitical decision making, in the best interest of the majority.

Sam May 13, 2020 - 8:56 PM - 8:56 PM

Not so much militant, I would say more in touch with the importance of How they vote. But yes I agree if any democrats want to be re-elected in California, it’s probably time to open er up. We have some of the best equipped hospitals in the world. Plenty of testing, it’s time

Democratically controlled state. The Lemmings voted for these Democratic legislators. Now they are suffering the consequences of their voting decisions.

This whole shutdown is about control. Nothing else. It’s a social experiment. The alleged virus was no more dangerous than the common flu.
