A South African that understands our constitution better than 99% of Americans. Thank you Elon for standing up for sleeping America.

Wage Slave May 11, 2020 - 6:31 PM - 6:31 PM

Unfortunately this south African doesn’t have DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY.

Alan May 11, 2020 - 4:31 PM - 4:31 PM

Finally, a hero emerges from the slime pit of government and corporate “leadership.”

Natalie May 11, 2020 - 4:41 PM - 4:41 PM

What a childish grandstanded. There was never a threat of him being arrested. Nobody from the county ever said he would arrested. He would receive a fine from the state, and he is well aware of that, especially since his Fremont factory has received more fines than any other car manufacturing facility in the United States in the past 5 years.

He was told he could start operations on the 18th, the same days as other automobile companies were going to re-open in other states. He is a snowflake.

When he says he’ll be on the line, he won’t be working, he’ll just be staring at people: “He NEVER works the line, he stares awkwardly at someone doing their job until they are very uncomfortable, then he walks away.” “When he says on the line he just means walking around every so often to make sure everyone sees him.”https://twitter.com/sokane1/status/1259957047896018944

Janus May 11, 2020 - 6:06 PM - 6:06 PM

And yet he got what he wanted and his plant is open.

The employees of Tesla got what they wanted as well, which was to return to work.

So who’s the snowflake again?

Natalie May 11, 2020 - 6:37 PM - 6:37 PM

According to reporters who spoke to workers, there was worker intimidation and people showed up because they didn’t want to be fired, not because they wanted to be there today.

There weren’t employees protesting to get the factory open, nor were the representatives of the employees going on social media like Elon did. This was a CEO who put his wealth ahead of the workers.

Elon is a union buster. He won’t allow a workers union. He has a history of getting into fights with his employees, and threatening to hit his workers. He ignores the health and safety issues which the Fremont factory is infamous for, including workers being injured.

Yes, throwing a tantrum to gain competitive advantage over competitors (who are waiting until the 18th) does make him a snowflake. He wanted special rules for himself, and threw a Twitter fit.

Janus May 11, 2020 - 8:19 PM - 8:19 PM

So you’re going to tell me that the workers are actually indentured servants or are they slaves? So Musk sent armed muscle out to every employee’s house, rounded them up and then chained them to the assembly line?

EVERYONE has a choice. They can choose to work or they can choose to find other employment but they made their choice. Just like every employee does everyday they go to work.

Are their consequences for not showing up? Yep, just like any other job everywhere in world.

You can try and justify it however you want but the workers voluntarily showed up for work, every single one of them.

Barbosa May 11, 2020 - 8:46 PM - 8:46 PM

@Natalie said “Elon is a union buster.”

So the arrogant pompous blowhard does have a redeeming quality.

Good for him !!

Robert May 11, 2020 - 10:08 PM - 10:08 PM

He never said he was going to be arrested he said he was ready to be arrested! Big difference!

Reason May 12, 2020 - 10:31 AM - 10:31 AM

Workers were being told they had to come to work. A friend was hired by Tesla to work at the Fremont facility. Her start date was April 1. Tesla insisted that she relocate from New York even though she was unable to look for housing here in the Bay Area. Her hiring manager told her back in March that the SIP didn’t apply to Tesla and she would be working at the jobsite, not from home.

Bob May 11, 2020 - 4:42 PM - 4:42 PM

Should be interesting

B May 11, 2020 - 4:45 PM - 4:45 PM

Best of luck Elon!

Puffandstuff May 11, 2020 - 4:50 PM - 4:50 PM

Way to go E. Musk! Thank you for taking a stand!!!

Gittyup May 11, 2020 - 6:07 PM - 6:07 PM

I agree! At some point, you say to yourself, “Corona virus be damned.
I’d rather die than live like this.”

Neighbor May 11, 2020 - 6:34 PM - 6:34 PM

Speak for yourselves. If he hasn’t put severe precautions in place….it’s going to look just like the meat packing plants…hundreds infected and they have to shut back down anyway.

bdml May 12, 2020 - 11:07 AM - 11:07 AM

@ Neighbor – exactly SPEAK FOR YOURSELF… so will we.

Gittyup May 12, 2020 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

Elon refuses to sit in the back of the bus!

Yoyohop May 11, 2020 - 4:51 PM - 4:51 PM

A CEO that takes his civic duty seriously. Nice job Elon!

Ricardus May 11, 2020 - 5:01 PM - 5:01 PM

I say arrest him. I used to respect the guy until he furloughed his workers and cut salaried employees pay during the shelter-in-place while he received a $700 million payout. He’s worth $39 billion but he wants to force his workers to show up. Look, if he cared about his people he would have kept everyone employed the way other firms like Williams-Sonoma have done. He’d also wait a few weeks and then open up. BTW, what the heck is his newborn’s name again? He’s got more than a few screws loose these days.

Gittyup May 11, 2020 - 6:08 PM - 6:08 PM

Parenthood will do that!

Original G May 11, 2020 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

Information from the gateway pundit,
From Hamburg Germany, every person who died there from CV19 had underlying medical problems. Problems included one or more of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heavy smokers, heavily obese, cancer, chronic lung disease.

In UK 95%, Italy 98%, New York City 99%, of those who died had underlying medical conditions.
……………………
Has been reported residential care and skilled nursing facilities for the elderly accounted for 49.4 percent of CA’s deaths from CV19.

From desert sun dot com, … five southern California counties have 71% of all California COVID-19 cases and account for 80% of hospitalizations.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/california/

Natalie May 11, 2020 - 5:52 PM - 5:52 PM

Cardiovascular problems aren’t uncommon in the US. About 40% of American adults have problems with hypertension, and roughly 38% percent have high cholesterol. 9.8% of US adults have diabetes. 42% of adults in the US are obese by medical standards. These underlining health conditions that can lead to Covid complications or death are pervasive in the US.

Patriot May 11, 2020 - 5:39 PM - 5:39 PM

Elon is right !

The Constitution does NOT get suspended by an emergency. PERIOD.

Therefore, an un-elected health department employee cannot require us to shutter our businesses and starve.

It’s time to re-open and save our economy from total extinction.

Great job Elon !

The Wizard May 11, 2020 - 5:46 PM - 5:46 PM

It’s time for his Spartacus moment. Dem’s know about that.

chuckie the troll May 11, 2020 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

Can you imagine the scene in jail? “Hey, bud, what you in for?” Elon: “Making cars.” Other guy: “I’m not sure I want to know any more.”.

Cyn May 11, 2020 - 6:29 PM - 6:29 PM

Not just cars of all things, GREEN ones at that.

Natalie May 11, 2020 - 6:49 PM - 6:49 PM

You do realize that Elon doesn’t make cars, right? He tells other people to make cars, but he doesn’t make cars. He doesn’t have a background in engineering, and isn’t a mechanical inventor. He inherited his families wealth from an Apartheid-era South African mine, and used that money in the early days of the tech boom to start a financial website which was then bought by PayPal. Making money during the early days of the tech book is still an accomplishment, but he’s not the super genius inventor that Conservatives think he is. He doesn’t make cars and he doesn’t make rocket ships. He is a financial investor who pays other people to do work that he then takes credit for. He’s just a super wealthy sci-fi fan who uses other people’s work for his gain.

Edison literally made cars. Elon Musk doesn’t.

Natalie May 11, 2020 - 6:50 PM - 6:50 PM

I meant Henry Ford not Edison. But you should get the idea of what I mean. Musk doesn’t make cars.

B May 11, 2020 - 7:30 PM - 7:30 PM

They don’t say hey bud lol what prison/jail did you go too?

Atticus Thraxx May 11, 2020 - 7:50 PM - 7:50 PM

He holds a Bachelors in Economics and a Bachelors in Physics. He is a design engineer who did all the detailed design on the Tesla Roaster.
He was a member of United States National Academy of Sciences Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board which doesn’t cotton to pikers. His vision is why SpaceX has the most powerful and economical rocket engines in the world. His and I repeat HIS SpaceX Dragon was the first privately built vehicle to connect to the Space Station. Yeah he’s not fitting door panels or brake rotors but without him we’d be stuck with Prius and all the rest of the major brands crap EVs. And he runs a space force, a boring company, and he was the only person at OepnAI that tried to build in AI safety. The only one who understands you build AI tame, you don’t try and tame it after it’s built. But since he annoys Rachel Maddows I guess we should just throw him in jail?

Fred May 11, 2020 - 6:18 PM - 6:18 PM

If a worker gets sick and dies, I guess you can sue him for violating the law. Just like getting sick at a dirty restaurant.

Cyn May 11, 2020 - 7:04 PM - 7:04 PM

Fred, he didn’t violate the law, as the health department doesn’t make laws.

Jeff May 12, 2020 - 7:27 AM - 7:27 AM

Fred,

The law is on the books giving health officers the right to close the economy.

I might arrest Elon later today, check the news.

I have been listening to Elon Musk, on Joe Rogan’s Podcast. I don’t think he has that many screws loose, in fact, he made some good points with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. The data is fuzzy in the reporting of Covid-19 deaths, either by the disease alone, with underlying conditions, or something unrelated. If anyone has the time, listen to it.

ZZ May 11, 2020 - 8:09 PM - 8:09 PM

Nice!

Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for any person acting under the color of law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the constitution or laws of the United State

A 77 year old barber reopened his shop defying Michigan’s stay at home order.

“I’ll be open until Jesus walks in or until they arrest me,”

Judge ruled against Michigan’s who made it a point to go after the barber.

Would not be surprised if Supreme Court eventually rules on shelter in place executive orders overreach by liberal governors.

Original G May 11, 2020 - 10:09 PM - 10:09 PM

Well how about this, it appears Alameda county has backed down. Looking more an more, this shelter in place and business closures is falling apart. Would not be surprised if reopening timeline gets accelerated in next few days.

Navy Proud May 12, 2020 - 6:05 AM - 6:05 AM

He’s such an ass. It’s going to be interesting know that if you buy a Tesla in a few months you’ll have the the thought in the back of your mind that people put their lives at risk during a pandemic making it for you. Is he in the factory every day where he’s putting everyone back to work? Or is he in a secure compound at home?

I can understand wanting to get back to work. Many do. Is this the right way to do it? Disregard for everyone and everything? Is it the right time? I don’t know. I do know that Tesla is off my radar for any type of purchase.

Healthy people are likely going to get infected, and pass it on. We don’t know the long term affects from these disease yet. We do know that people whom we thought were okay, had complications weeks later, including children. Some have died. This is not just a disease that affects the weak and sick. It can potentially affect young people and have dire consequences. By the way, the amount of projected deaths from this virus will now double by August. This is due to reopening.

I seriously hope Tesla is testing employees, employing distancing, is requiring masks, and is sanitizing and using hand-washing as preventative measures.

Barbosa May 12, 2020 - 10:03 AM - 10:03 AM

You are aware that shelter in place was never meant to bring infections down to zero, right? It cannot bring it down to zero even if we isolated for 10 years. Only way to eradicate this virus is a vaccine or herd immunity. Vaccine won’t be coming for at least another year. Herd immunity can only be achieved if the the herd gets out and mingle.

Shelter in place was only intended to to prevent overwhelming our health care resources. It is quite clear that our hospitals and ICU’s are not anywhere near capacity. Shelter in place did what it was intended to do. Now it’s time to open back up, but in a controlled and smart way.

Wish we can have a discussion on this and not get politics into it.

HappyPappy May 12, 2020 - 10:37 AM - 10:37 AM

Navy Proud –
Sooo much speculation?
The only true and accurate statement you wrote was “I don’t know”.

Michael 1 May 12, 2020 - 8:29 AM - 8:29 AM

Musk is 100% right .California politicians are drunk with power now and they are not going to give it up without a fight . Ask yourself why is it okay for Costco , Safeway , home depot etc. to stay open and not Big 5 or Tjmax . Because the government says so? This virus is not going away so now we have to learn how to live with it . We can’t stay locked up in our homes . Our state and our country will be in ruins . Our liberal politicians want to keep us scared and in a panic state so we are easy to control. They buy us off with free money that our kids and grandkids will be paying for the rest of their lives .This is how we open . You can’t go into a store without a mask . stores have sanitizer at the entrance and exit . People have to stay 6 to 8feet apart . Everybody is responsible for protecting themselves . It is that simple .

Reason May 12, 2020 - 10:39 AM - 10:39 AM

“Ask yourself why is it okay for Costco , Safeway , home depot etc. to stay open and not Big 5 or Tjmax . Because the government says so?”

What is confusing to you about grocery stores, hardware stores, and pharmacies being open and clothing and sporting goods stores being closed? Food, medicine, and the ability to buy a plunger or make necessary home repairs is essential because people will get sick or possibly die if they don’t have sustenance, medication, and safe places to live. Clothing and sporting goods are luxuries.

bdml May 12, 2020 - 11:18 AM - 11:18 AM

Just stop with drawing the line in the sand…if you can go out of your house to 1 store you can go to any store pure and simple. Put a mask on, keep social distance and wash your hands. If I can be that close while grocery shopping I can certainly be that close in other instances…

S May 12, 2020 - 11:20 AM - 11:20 AM

Big 5’s are open…. got a new pair of kicks yesterday

The Wizard May 12, 2020 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

Big 5 open ! My shoes are barking like a dog. I’m waiting for the 10 buck coupon in the mail and hopefully a parking lot sale. Time to break out some more Duck Tape in the meantime.

Bradd May 12, 2020 - 11:15 PM - 11:15 PM

Sure he opens up makes some big stand…in two weeks when there is an out break I wonder who will be sued. Tesla is a bunch of chump mangers.

DJT May 13, 2020 - 6:47 PM - 6:47 PM
