500 k a month. Shows the lack of spirit of the sleep train arena since they were not going to have any events.

chuckie the troll April 27, 2020 - 2:26 PM - 2:26 PM

The state is ‘renting’ it, but they are going to expect that the Federal Government reimburse them.

Gittyup April 27, 2020 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

Newsom is burning through that 26 billion dollar surplus Brown left him in record speed. It will shortly not be the world’s fifth largest economy he bragged about when taking office. He’s bankrupting the state and everyone in it in his headlong drive to eliminate private property like the good little Democratic socialist he really is.

Sam April 27, 2020 - 5:31 PM - 5:31 PM

That’s our money..in case anyone was feeling disconnected for this scam

Sam April 27, 2020 - 5:32 PM - 5:32 PM

**from this scam

dan April 27, 2020 - 7:49 PM - 7:49 PM

What choice does he have? There is not a coordinated federal response. Trump has left the states to largely fend for themselves – blaming them for not having enough PPE, ventilators and hospital capacity.

Suppose the State went and bought a bunch of PPE years ago. Would you have complained then about the money that was spent “just in case” or should our health care workers go without and risk their own lives?

Sam April 27, 2020 - 8:46 PM - 8:46 PM

It’s the job. Choices need to be made everyday. That’s why it matters. Making bad choices just to make choices don’t cut it. That’s the job. Do you get to make bad choices at work Dan? I can think of a lot of better ways (we) should have spent that 1.5 million of the people’s money. Gavin is as corrupt as they come. Change.org recall Newsom, sign it right now

dan April 28, 2020 - 6:16 AM - 6:16 AM

@sam – you make a good point – if this was an infrastructure project or spending on education, I would completely agree. However, this is a pandemic with alot of unknowns. You can Monday morning quarterback this all you want but he, like every other governor is in an impossibly difficult situation and to condemn him is childish.

Beyond Stupid April 27, 2020 - 2:34 PM - 2:34 PM

I look at it as further evidence that the modeling for infections and deaths from COVID-19 are incorrect.

Anon April 27, 2020 - 2:38 PM - 2:38 PM

Yeah, probably shouldn’t use a computer geeks modeling who has Zero experience in the medical field.

Doh April 27, 2020 - 2:49 PM - 2:49 PM

$50k would be a better payment since there will be no events and it is a “just in case” scenario.

Fed up April 27, 2020 - 3:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Who owns the Arena? Follow the money.

America April 27, 2020 - 3:02 PM - 3:02 PM

We dont need a field hospital. The numbers dont sopport it . Its BS to keep everyone in fear and comply. Look at the numbers! They keep saying “ dara and numbers” they are available to everyone online.

RANDOM TASK April 27, 2020 - 3:06 PM - 3:06 PM

lol

also gavin is going to get into the motel business at tax payer expense

this should be good

bum hotels …..

boy if those areas weren’t run down all ready

as well as who else would stay there besides bums I mean if it is state run …who is going to clean it lol

and at another expense to the tax payers

this is going to turn into a ( b and b) for the bums as well

let the welfare state commence

oh and of course higher taxes to pay for this adventure to no where

the hits keep coming

I am going to need a program for this show so I can keep up and know who the players are

a real life off stage drama
brought to you by newscum enterprises …paid for by tax payers

The Wizard April 27, 2020 - 3:09 PM - 3:09 PM

Maybe we could house some homeless there.

Sideline April 27, 2020 - 3:10 PM - 3:10 PM

Renting for what???
Impeach Newsome

Ryan April 27, 2020 - 5:41 PM - 5:41 PM

The impeach Newsom campaign ended with a whimper. They only collected 49,322 signatures, which is about 3% of the number they needed to force a special election.

Sam April 27, 2020 - 6:33 PM - 6:33 PM

That’s fake news. There were 352,271 signatures collected the first time. Now EVERYONE knows what he is. Pretty sure it won’t be hard to get 1.5 now..Go check out Change.org they have a live counter with comments. Signatures stacking as we speak

Amy April 27, 2020 - 3:58 PM - 3:58 PM

Didn’t New York send the Comfort hospital ship back because there were no patients? What about the Mercy ship in LA? Does Newsom know something we don’t know?

Strad April 27, 2020 - 4:17 PM - 4:17 PM

When the stay at home order is relaxed the state expects to see a spike in new covid19 case therefore the extra field hospitals. He also knows he can’t keep the population sheltered in place indefinitely .

chuckie the troll April 27, 2020 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

So what this REALLY means is that the policy of “Cower-in-Place” is useless. The virus will spike whenever life goes back to ‘normal’. They only thing Newsom is doing now is killing off small businesses by the thousands and impoverishing way too many people.

So, Free My People!

I am confushun o_O April 27, 2020 - 5:23 PM - 5:23 PM

Can you translate this to English, please?

“Is there an illness that more people have than have a the regular flu OR TB??”

Thanks.

Cellophane April 27, 2020 - 5:28 PM - 5:28 PM

This is just another needless waste of money that will bury us all in debt to the point of bankruptcy.

Gavin has no self-control when it comes to spending as much as he does, he wants CA to look just like Mogadishu.

The longer people allow this poor excuse for a man to run this state, the closer this state comes to ruin.

Is it time for mass civil disobedience?

If it isn’t now it’s gonna be soon.

S April 27, 2020 - 5:30 PM - 5:30 PM

So, I just watched a story on a local tv news about the Nuro driver-less delivery vehicle and how great it is because it is gurney (not just street legal) width and how a great help it is inside the Arena…

So seems the bay area news channels aren’t aware that the Arena sets unused… yet we pay for it all…..

Yes, glad it’s not needed, but I need to call B S

dan April 27, 2020 - 5:36 PM - 5:36 PM

Has anybody ever thought that this rental agreement was developed years ago as a part of a larger emergency preparedness plan? Has anybody ever thought of what would have happened if the shelter in place order did not go into effect when it did? Perhaps we over planned but it is much easier to scale back than to ramp up. I for one am thrilled he is our governor and I will not arm chair quarterback his decisions.

I suppose a much less expensive solution would be to inject a disinfectant solution as a “cleansing” strategy but somebody already came up with that idea. By the way, do all of you who find fault with Newsome prefer Lysol or Clorox? I tried Mr. Clean but it really burned. (This is sarcasm, please do not try this despite the President’s advice as it will kill you.)

Kayla April 27, 2020 - 6:02 PM - 6:02 PM

If the rental agreement was put in place as part of an emergency preparedness plan then Newsom wouldn’t have thanked the arena for offering the space before him having to ask for it.

I agree though, it would be easier to scale back than ramp up but doesn’t seem like either is happening, especially with this extension through May.

Clam Bake April 27, 2020 - 7:03 PM - 7:03 PM

You be the judge. here are the remarks in question:

[Trump] So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light — and I think you said that that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it.  And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that too.  It sounds interesting.

ACTING UNDER SECRETARY BRYAN:  We’ll get to the right folks who could.

THE PRESIDENT:  Right.  And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute.  One minute.  And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning.  Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs.  So it would be interesting to check that.  So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with.  But it sounds — it sounds interesting to me.

Trump wasn’t telling people to drink or inject bleach — he was asking whether or not it would be possible to clean inside the body with a similar disinfectant. He also insisted, “you’re going to have to use medical doctors with” any such practice. In other words, “don’t try this at home, kids.”

Cyn April 27, 2020 - 10:43 PM - 10:43 PM

@dan You are one huge liar. This is not sarcasm.

Ryan April 27, 2020 - 5:38 PM - 5:38 PM

You’re the same people who would be complaining the government did nothing if there was a surge in cases and they needed the space. I say good for them for being prepared.

Sam April 27, 2020 - 6:39 PM - 6:39 PM

Some people count on themselves. Some people don’t need a government to wipe their a**. We are not the people you think we are. 1.5 million for 3 months?? Cash to illegals. Businesses destroyed. Give me a break. That’s your money. Now or later you’ll be paying for all those decisions.

chuckie the troll April 28, 2020 - 10:07 AM - 10:07 AM

Ryan- There is a reason why “We’re from the government and we’re here to help you” sounds like a threat! When government does nothing, we tend to be freer and more prosperous.

dan April 27, 2020 - 7:44 PM - 7:44 PM

@ryan – i totally agree. Thank god we have a governor with common sense and intelligence – not like what lives in the White House. Yes, he may have been too conservative and over planned but I would much rather over plan than do nothing and then cast blame.

parent April 27, 2020 - 9:23 PM - 9:23 PM

Both our governor and the president have failed us. Both.

This is no Shelter-In-Place … no this is a quarantine and they are trying to use House Arrest to try and keep us in line.

In Emergency Management as soon as you can release the resources and relax the SIP, you do so. The science is already showing that we can, but some folks do not believe it. Some folks think that all the news and what spits out of the governor/president is pure gold and absolute truth. Well … it is not.

dan April 28, 2020 - 6:17 AM - 6:17 AM

@parent – what science is telling you this?

parent April 28, 2020 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

@ Dan
Are you Hanne? Asking cause you cannot reply in the correct thread like her.

As for your question: The curve has ‘flattened’, check any site you want and you find it. We never had the huge numbers that they said we would we have. The peak will be here in early April, Mid April, now Mid May. The science is showing that the models were wrong. Are the hospitals overflowing? Are they packed? Are they even at 50% capacity?

dan April 28, 2020 - 2:31 PM - 2:31 PM

There is a flattening of the curve. I agree. I dont know that I would say the models were wrong. I would say that as a society, we did what was needed and sheltered in place. Had we not, the models likely would have been right.

The issue is that if we go back to life as normal, the quantity of cases will spike in weeks. We have a great test case in Georgia. Sadly, we’ll need to wait and see.

I’m still unclear how the governor failed us. Absent a coordinated federal plan, the states are left to fend for themselves. It’s inefficient but that is the path the President chose.

parent April 28, 2020 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

Dan/Hanne
According to Newscum and Drump we were suppose to have freezers full of dead COVID patients by now. Where are they? You really think the Quarantine in Place prevented that? If that were the case, how come we are still getting new cases? You think it is violators? Ok, maybe so, but only ~50% of the people are going out, would we not have a much higher infection/death rate? I don’t know the math to calculate off of the R0 etc numbers.

NewScum has failed us because he continues to live on a power trip. We get no haircuts, but he does. His rent is paid, but the other landlords dont have to be paid. Shasta County is treated the same way as San Francisco? They are NOTHING alike.

Don’t worry, he is not alone. Our county officials banding with San Francisco because our county officials cannot make their own decisions.

I am personally tired of all the failed cowards that we call politicians.

dan April 29, 2020 - 6:29 AM - 6:29 AM

@parent – thankfully the shelter in place worked to prevent the extreme loss of life predicted. Why are we still getting cases? Well it might be because people still have to go to the grocery store, work in essential business, see a doctor… Lots of different reasons. But the more we stay at home, the more we keep the disease at bay. I completely get that the math would be challenging for you.

I agree, the governor’s hair looks amazing. Is that what all of your anger and frustration is about – are you jealous of his hair? Truth be told, I am a little but I still really like him. I think he is a GREAT leader – with amazing hair.

dan April 28, 2020 - 6:20 AM - 6:20 AM

@cyn – how am I a liar? His daily briefing was televised. His own medical advisors were mortified with how stupid he is. His response to this pandemic will be studied by generations to come in what not to do. His comments will be remembered throughout history as some of the most uneducated things a world leader has ever said.

Gittyup April 28, 2020 - 9:20 PM - 9:20 PM

Unlike Newsom’s which will be looked on in years to come as high comedy.

Captain Bebops April 28, 2020 - 8:56 AM - 8:56 AM

Better not be used like stadiums were used in Chile.

Ricardus April 28, 2020 - 8:58 AM - 8:58 AM

Dan, this is a losing battle. Trump supporters get even more aggressive when you quote him directly.

dan April 28, 2020 - 11:28 AM - 11:28 AM

Good point. Years ago, my mom told me that you can’t argue with stupid.

The Fearless Spectator April 28, 2020 - 5:19 PM - 5:19 PM

Wagner, is that you?

4th generation CCC April 28, 2020 - 9:15 AM - 9:15 AM

What dan said. And the future generations will harshly judge the Trump supporters. They will compare his rise and ability to control people through hatred similar to that of other disgraced leaders in our past.
Gavin will be remembered as a hero who helped slow down the Pandemic in California and saved countless lives.
