What’s the point in testing asymptomatic people unless you’re going to test them every day? If you tested negative today, what would you do differently? If you leave your house, you would have to be tested again.

symptomatic people have greater chance of spreading it. Essential workers should be given priority imo. But agreed we need more testing this is a start. We should continue to minimize our own risks. Pray for our nursing homes and nursing home workers. That’s where most are dying.

I disagree. The elderly are the greatest percentage of those dying, especially in nursing homes. Very much like they were the greatest percentage of those who died in California’s wildfires. It speaks volumes about how society has evolved a thoroughly callous attitude toward the elderly.

Many providing care in nursing homes are unskilled and the standards of cleanliness and disinfection are lax. They are not regularly inspected by the State of California to see that they comply with even the minimum standards of care. There are also a huge number of immigrants employed as the boomer generation ages and workers in this sector of the economy are hard to find. The conditions are ripe for repeated and frequent spread of pathogens, brought into the facility either by visitors or employees. My guess would be the greatest number by employees, because so many elderly in these facilities have so few and such infrequent visitors.

Wash your hands, wear your mask, shut your mouth, and trust the government to tell you what to do. Obey.

What is the point of testing symptomatic people? I’m asking seriously, because I don’t see any benefit in finding out if you test positive. The false positives are alarming. If you are positive, there is no treatment. If you test positive, you will be told to stay home and shelter in place, quarantined for X number of days. If you test positive they do not tell you to go to the Emergency Room, or call your doctor. Or, do they?

If you are ill, a phone call to your doctor’s office might give you directions on what to do, and eliminate the middleman. Then, there is always the “If you are experiencing a life threatening emergency, call 911, or go to the nearest Emergency Room.”

You may be submitting to DNA collection and I’m sure the samples are tested endlessly for any number of pathogens. The results are only being collected to provide data to researchers and those making decisions regarding the virus so they can do statistical analysis, possibly even to help develop a more accurate way of collecting this information.

@ Gittup
I agree. What is the point?
I regularly (aggravating) catch strep throat. I know the signs/symptoms. When I think I am having a flair up, I stay away, no smooching, no sharing of cups/utensils, etc etc etc … In all my years, I have been tested 3-4 times because it lingered longer than normal. If it can be fixed by rest, OTC meds, why bother being tested?

The new symptoms (sore throat, chills, etc), if I develop any, I will sit at home, take my OTC and call it a day. My behavior is likely what most people who have had SARS2 back in Jan/Feb did. They did not make a run at their doctors and the hospitals, they got better at home without Doctor’s treatment.

Martinezmike, you’re funny!

You are just the perfect little apparatchik citizen aren’t you?

Obey, obey, obey. Do as you are told; Never question authority. The Government is always right. The Government always knows what is best. From cradle to grave please take care of me for I cannot take care of myself without the loving orders of my benevolent government to tell me what to do and what to think. Resistance is futile.

I say, never be so quick to bend the knee. Trust yes, but always verify.

“Sarchasm”

The deep gulf dividing those who are able to detect sarcasm and those who are not.

Ozzie April 24, 2020 - 6:54 PM - 6:54 PM

Sarchasm.

Berkeley, California. Sarchasm are four introverts with lisps of varying severity and radically different coffeeshop orders, unified by their love of superheroes, burritos, and ugly button-up shirts

See what happens when county employees get power over the people?

There will be no end to this nonsense.

Once they get the power, they never give it back.

@parent Plus the list of symptoms for Covid-19 keeps growing, so it could be almost anything else including the common cold. There are many home remedies that solves the problem which I’d try first. If you get some of these symptoms occasionally, most likely you know how to manage them sucessfully without freaking out.
