What a shame…must be foul play if they are not sating what the object was. Sad indeed.

CHP released statement was a brick thrown from an overpass

Remember a few years back there was a rash if these in LA; couple of teens going around throwing cinderblocks off overpasses. Probably kids again, bored, cruel and stupid.

How very sad for the family. I wish there was something more meaningful I could say to help.

There’s no overpass on 242, just HWY 4..

buki April 11, 2020 - 12:00 PM - 12:00 PM

Get back to us with the full story. What was the object, was it dropped off of a bridge, fall off the back of a truck, or did someone throw it.

the amount of debris on our hwy is shocking. I see all types of dangerous objects that could be kicked up by a truck. The city should at least run a street sweeper on the hwy once a week but they don’t. Sadly this woman paid the price of bad government with her life.

You’re just assuming it was an object on the highway! It wasn’t! They have already stated that someone threw a brick off an overpass. The chances of a heavy brick being kicked out by a car or truck running over it is slim to none, mostly none!

The city has no jurisdiction over Highways. That would be Caltrans. Luckily, our funds for fixing/cleaning/building roads is wasted by the state on other things. Just look at the mis-use of funding that created the Diamond Blvd. area of bike lanes and signs that hardly gets used, and fewer driving lanes that back up traffic.

So this is an undisclosed object that crashed through the side window while driving? There has to be more to this story.

They say NB 242 approaching highway 4… I wonder if someone threw something off the Olivera Rd. overpass. That’s the only place in the area I can think of where something can “fall” onto cars.

buki April 11, 2020 - 11:33 AM - 11:33 AM

bob foo, that’s exactly wat I was telling my wife that probably some body was been stupid and trow the brick of the over pass I live right behind the over pass and the way they put the over pass on top of the bottom freeway that was very bad design who ever build it, they should put up a higher wall there, I’m so sorry my condolences to the family of this young lady🙏

Amy April 11, 2020 - 11:49 AM - 11:49 AM

Installing cámaras on those overpass wouldn’t be such a bad Idea. Since it isn’t the first incident caused my a cruel human being!

I drove by not too long after this happened and the police were all searching the homeless encampment just west of where the Jetta had pulled over. There are a high number of mentally ill homeless people camped out along the freeway close to the homeless shelter near there which has always been a problem. This is now affecting innocent people somethings should be done to control these dirtbags. If something isn’t done about this it will just keep happening… so sad

The Fearless Spectator April 11, 2020 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

How terribly sad. I have witnessed items thrown off overpasses SEVERAL times on highway 80 through Sacramento. Between Modesto and Fresno on highway 99 they throw large rocks from ground level. Its alarming when all of a sudden your window is blasted out.

When I got hit it was at night with no cars or trucks around me. I called the CHP and they met me at the next exit. I was told it’s a hobby for kids in the area and it happens all the time. He also told me they lay in wait to hit the European cars. I was so lucky not to have a passenger. Really scary.

If this is what happened to that woman, may the criminal be crushed with guilt and also brought to justice.

hehaseesaw April 11, 2020 - 12:06 PM - 12:06 PM

Either a homeless mad at the world or some dumb kid… either way I hope they rot with the thought of what they done the rest of their pathetic lives.

Walter Ego April 11, 2020 - 12:09 PM - 12:09 PM

There is an overpass over 242 past the Olivera overpass when you exit 242 to get to Hwy 4 Westbound.

Lesley April 11, 2020 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

That is horrible! Poor woman and her family! I had a similar incident 20 years ago, on highway 80, but luckily in my case the metal object (I always think crow bar in my memory but I don’t really know for sure). but it hit the windshield, bounced off and came down on the glass T-top on the passenger side shattering it, and the object kept going. Luckily in my case my two passengers and I were not injured. If it had gone through my passenger in the front would have probably been killed. We pulled over made sure everyone was OK and called 911. Car was towed and no report was made and that was it. We never knew where the object came from, did it fall off a truck ahead and bounce off the road? Get kicked up off the road? Or did someone throw it off the overpass. I saw the comment above about things being thrown off overpasses on highway 80, and It makes me wonder. Just all of a sudden it is there, your going 55-65 or more mph, and there is nothing you can do! It happens so fast! My heart breaks for this family what a horrifying thing to have to go through, to have this happen and a loved one is killed. Just awful!
