State Officials Remind Residents To Take Care Of Mental, Physical Health Amid Pandemic

Gov. Gavin Newsom reminded California residents to take care of their mental and physical health during the novel coronavirus pandemic, especially if they’re not working outside their home.

Newsom and state Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris acknowledged that abiding by state and regional shelter-in-place orders can cause people to feel lonelier, more anxious or depressed and more stressed.

Newsom said during his daily address on the pandemic that those feelings can be particularly hard to deal with for children because they may lack the words to describe how they’re feeling.

Adults may also cope with stress and anxiety in unhealthy ways such as drinking alcohol, avoiding exercise or not reaching out to a friend or family member for help, Newsom said.

“We recognize, I recognize, we all, I think, recognize the nature of this moment and I just want folks to know that staying at home doesn’t mean you’re alone,” he said. “That as a state, we are here to do what we can
to support you and to be there at a time of need.”

The state has more than a dozen hotlines for residents across the state to seek help and emotional support during the outbreak as well as once the outbreak has passed.

Burke Harris’ office has also posted stress management “playbooks” on the state’s coronavirus website, covid19.ca.gov, as well as basic guidance for stress reduction like maintaining supportive relationships, getting at least one hour of exercise each day and maintaining a healthy diet and sleep schedule.

“It’s important to know that these changes aren’t just in your head and to begin to identify how stress shows up for you physically, emotionally and behaviorally,” Burke Harris said. “Individuals who have a history of trauma or adversity may also be at greater risk.”

The one thing this article leaves out is quit watching the news. Wall to wall coverage is unhealthy. You can’t bury your head in the sand, but you can read what you need to know to stay informed in moderation online. The media is just doing their job, but you can certainly control the remote control. The oversaturation will take a toll on you, whether you realize it or not.

Facts

I was going to take care of my mental health and was thinking about going down to the bay next week, sit on a rock by myself and fish. Now I hear the Fish and Game are having a meeting tomorrow and will probably ban fishing in California.
This has gone way to far!

Fishing is allowble during shelter-in-place in at least Texas, Georgia, and Florida as long as soicla distancing is maintained. I dion’t think it is allowed in California (I may be wrong), and neither is surfing.

Wouldn’t that qualify as accessing essential services in order to obtain food?

So I tried to participate in the DFG meeting this morning to discuss the banning of fishing in California. In a state with millions of people they limited the number of participants to 200!

Wasn’t this the week we were supposed to see dead bodies in the streets?

California is not New York or Italy.Time to change the dooms day model. Again.

Charlatan+ Democrat+ banging your best friend’s wife= no credibility.

Our Governor clearly took this novel virus seriously and its apparent that the Stay at Home (since March 16th) policy has been flattening the curve. He has also secured 200 million masks per month.

Many companies in Silicon Valley ordered their employees to start working from home 10 days to 2 weeks before the Stay at Home policy, like Apple, Google, and Facebook.

Funny how there are so many people here that bash our Governor, and then point to the idiots governing the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida as leaders.

It’s pretty simple.
If you don’t like living in the 5th largest economy in the world, then leave!

Thanks, Mike, for all of your common sense posts. Some people just don’t get it, and never will.

Mike Wagner

Oh yes the typical “California the 5th largest economy in the world”. A true paradise. A place where you are either a prince or a pauper. The welfare capital of the US. The place where illegals, vagrants and convicts are protected more than good citizens. The land of high taxes and crappy government services.

California the Mecca of corruption, where unions reign supreme. Tax payers are fleeced to support obscene government pensions and boondoggles. The land of educated fools. Fools that elect a governor, that as mayor, turned San Francisco into a cesspool. Fools that actually want a communist as our president.

You are right about one thing. I am going to leave, and I am not alone. When people like me leave who is going to pay for everything? Can’t wait to abandon this sinking ship, living in the 5th largest economy in the world sucks.

Stop the cops from giving tickets to people just driving around by themselves to get out of the house to improve their mental health. Or people going to watch the sunsets with their isolation buddies. And then people might listen to you guys a little more. A friend got a 500 dollar ticket just for driving around by himself.

I doubt anybody got a ticket for just driving around, unless hw or she was in violation of curfew.

And when is curfew for an adult during these times? Asking for a friend.

Certain towns and counties around the nation have a curfew, sometimes for adults too. I know Flint. Michigan does:

People were out shooting backetballs and gathering in covnenience store parking lots late at night to drink. Detroit has a similar problem.

Banning fishing would drive my uncle insane…. he won’t stop, that’s all he does… well……. that & drinking beer (he calls it “sheltering in place”).

Besides that, the bass are really biting now!

DFW better think twice…. no baseball and ban fishing? that’s like declaring war out here.

DFW = Dallas-Fort Worth??

It is the Department of Fish & Wildlife now (DFW).
It used to be the Department of Fish & Game (DFG) the name was changed in 2012
“The name of the department was changed to better reflect our evolving responsibilities,” said Department Director Charlton H. Bonham.

The DFG is having their meeting this morning to discuss the closure of fishing. I tried to join their webinar but they would only let 200 people join and you can not view the meeting.

CDFW canceled the meeting at the last minute and it says they will have the meeting in the future on a different platform.
For now, fish on!

Just saw Newsome trying to calm down the fisherman in this state! He realized that by banning fishing he just pissed off a lot of voters! They had to shut down their webinar meeting today because of the backlash. Now they are planning a meeting where you have to email in your opinion instead!

@Brandi: Oh duh! Thank you.

For all practical purposes, I quit drinking in 2001. I just lost interest in it. But lately I’ve been breaking open old bottles of Lagavulin and Laphroaig (and bourbon) just to see if I still like it. I think I do. So, I’m using this time to rekindle my love of booze. 🙂

My mental health will improve greatly when the likes of Gavin Newson stop telling we what to do. I don’t see his life as any sort if guiding light in times of crisis … or any other time for that matter. He’s a full-time loser.

Ask Newsom’s campaign manager and friend, Alex Tourk, what kind of friend Newsom is. Newsom had an affair with Tourk’s wife, a guy who devoted his life to helping Newsom win an election. What kind of person does that? Newsom does what he likes, including violating laws he doesn’t agree with, like Proposition 8. The guy is dangerous — dangerous is his own ignorance and dangerous in his willingness to break laws he doesn’t agree with.

How can you call someone a loser that has been mayor of a big city, lieutenant Governor and now Governor of a big state, has been married to the same woman for years and seem to be a devoted father to his 4 children? I get that you don’t agree with his politics, but that is separate from classify him as a loser. Do you feel the same about Trump, he has had several bankruptcy, is on his 3rd wife and cheated on ALL his wives, on Melania with a hooker no less. Isn’t there such a thing as redemption? We all make mistakes. I certainly was not a fan of Bush 43rd policies, but I still think he is a nice person and a good family man, same for this Dad, who I actually liked a lot, even some of his policies. I always thought he had a lot of class, and could laugh at himself, even invited Dana Carvey to the White House, even though Dana was making fun of him, they became good friends, now that is class.

P.S. I don’t consider anyone a loser that works hard, pay their bills and taxes, takes care of their family and have friends. A loser is someone who has trouble holding on to a job, can’t pay his bills, has no or few friends, or his friends are low life, don’t care about his family. Doesn’t matter if his is President, lawyer, policeman or a shoe salesman.

Recall Gavin Newson 2020

The objective definition of “loser” is the entity which does not win a contest or competition. All other definitions are subjective.

HA. Gittyup[
Perfect post

I agree Gittyup. Newsom destroyed San Francisco and is now well on his way of forkiing the Whole State of California right into his puppet masters pockets. Sanctuary City? For who? Gangsters, Thieves and Politicians.

Rollo I’m sure I’m posting this in the wrong place. I understand the definition of loser, however most people in everyday speak use it the way I use. So I guess it is subjective. As is clear from my posts, I’m no Trump fan, but would have a hard time calling him a loser since he is President of the US. Might be a loser in other areas, marriage, personal relationships.

Years from now people will look back on his daily The Gavin Newsom Hour and see it as high comedy.

I drove by the CoCo County Regional Hospital in Martinez & saw several large white tents with sidewalls in the parking lot. Outhouses were next to them too.

Does anyone know if that’s where they’re housing the coronavirus patients (they have 30) or do you think that’s an intake of suspected coronavirus patients & they bring the positive ones into the hospital?

What do you guys think?

yes they are housed in the outhouses so they are highly quarantined do not worry.

The triage them in those isolation tents to avoid contaminating the hospital and medical offices. They are usually tested and sent home, unless really sick.

I think this article is wonderful! It’s amazing how far society has come. Reaching out to these people in a positive way will benefit everyone. In the past, people who suffered from these issues were treated like outcasts and frowned upon. The fact that the government is acknowledging this topic and extending an olive branch is awesome! I’m not a fan of the governor but I gladly give credit when credit is do. Kudos to gov Newsome and Claycord.

@gittyup. Totally agree😂😂

DVC

How can there be 30 covid patients in Martinez when according to Claycord report there are 30 hospitalized in counts Costa county altogether?

Good question – I assumed (1st place I went wrong) that all 30 patients are hospitalized at the County hospital.

I didn’t realize they could also be at John Muir, Kaiser, Delta Sutter & the County hospital.

The state, or rather the Dear Leadership, could have lead and taken proactive action back in first days of January when it was very clear that this was a dangerous outbreak. That would have been far better for the mental health of the population.

Yeah, and Newsom should know the obvious physical and psychological implications or set backs many citizens are experiencing due to our “New Normal” first hand, after all, he and his fellow social-engineers have implemented our new Orwellian guidelines/protocol based on unsubstantiated and unfounded fear through carefully orchestrated fear-mongering over this current fake viral pandemic. We in our communities are simply guinneapigs being used in an experiment inside a huge petri-dish within each city and state throughout a once free and wonderful America. Those days are gone for good! “They” keep people in fear so “they” can control us! When will we ever learn?

That’s why they’ll never get my firearms.

The only times my mood has swung even slightly darker was during the days of heavy rain, when going outside and getting fresh air was contraindicated.

Do tell Hanne Jepperson. Good luck to you!

Thank you, Aunt Barbara that is the first comment from you that are positive. My last name is spelled Jeppesen, usually son is Swedish, I’m Danish, and no R.

Gavin hit on me while he was with Jennifer so there goes your theories and his voice is like that from years of chain smoking in bars. I cannot believe Hanne said that a loser is someone without a job when so many have lost their jobs. You really get to see who is totally self-absorbed.

Gavin Newsom also pumped his campaign manager’s wife who was his best friend & when the campaign manager found out about it, he punched Gavin Newsom in his face & resigned.

He was always sleazy that way.

SOS I’m not talking about the crisis we are going through now, I have been furloughed as well. When I said I don’t consider anyone a loser that works hard, that means that most of your life you are gainfully employed, being laid off or furloughed through no fault of your own, obviously does not count.

SOS, I can only go by what I read and hear about now. So I guess you have the same disgust for Trump, who on tape was bragging how he was hitting on a married women and he was married at the time as well.
