So masks help now?

burnbabyburn April 3, 2020 - 4:11 AM - 4:11 AM

They have always helped. That’s why they wear them in hospitals.

Mac N Cheese April 3, 2020 - 12:01 PM - 12:01 PM

I was being a smart a**. 😂 I know they help!

chuckie the troll April 2, 2020 - 4:05 PM - 4:05 PM

Or, it might give you a false sense of safety and lead you to take more risks.

ilovepopcorn April 2, 2020 - 4:48 PM - 4:48 PM

They say yes these masks do give one a false sense of safety. I try to stay six feet away from people. It gets on my nerves when people walk in my six feet space. GRRRR

eyeseeyou April 3, 2020 - 10:52 AM - 10:52 AM

there aren’t more risks to take, there’s a shelter-in-place in effect.

WC April 2, 2020 - 4:21 PM - 4:21 PM

When is Newsom going to provide one to every Californian no matter gender, sexual preference, immigration status or religion? When?

Aunt Barbara April 2, 2020 - 5:20 PM - 5:20 PM

True. Not many can afford a new mask everyday, you can’t wear the same one over and over. People will leave in the street like the gloves.
The whole thing is getting out of control and still no toilet paper and tempers flaring!
The leaf blowing persist blowing crude around for us to breathe!

Mac N Cheese April 3, 2020 - 6:30 AM - 6:30 AM

Aunt Barbara you can make a mask using a bandana or similar piece of fabric. You can then wash it everyday. There’s no need for cheap asses to expect that the government (tax payers) should provide you something for “free” (tax payer funded) simply because you can’t figure out how to wrap a cloth around your head.

Gary Benton April 2, 2020 - 4:25 PM - 4:25 PM

The cloth face coverings/bandanas are to reduce the chance of coronavirus being spread from the person wearing the bandana out into the air (by sneezes or coughs). Not expected to help prevent the wearer from picking up the virus.
These are alternatives to masks which are in short supply and need to be kept available for medical workers.

Gittyup April 2, 2020 - 6:24 PM - 6:24 PM

“Not expected to help prevent the wearer from picking up the virus.”

Better than nothing.

Hanne Jeppesen April 2, 2020 - 8:01 PM - 8:01 PM

Aunt Barbara, I was a Safeway on Willow Pass yesterday, I didn’t look for toilet paper, since I have enough. No, I didn’t hoard, I like to get my toilet paper at 99c store only, you get 12 mega rolls for 3.99, since I don’t like to go to that store to often, I usually buy 2 packages, which I did before everyone went crazy, so I’m fine. However, let me get back to my original point, Safeway had signs at each register with how much of certain items, you were allowed to check out, for paper towels and toilet paper it said one packages per person. I assume they would not have that sign if they did not have the items.

ex-coastie April 2, 2020 - 4:25 PM - 4:25 PM

The masks don’t protect you from everyone else. Not much, anyway. They help protect everyone else from you.

ZZ April 2, 2020 - 4:29 PM - 4:29 PM

Keep spinning…

Mamabear April 2, 2020 - 4:40 PM - 4:40 PM

Might as well- it can’t hurt or make things worse. If anything, sounds like it can help.

ilovepopcorn April 2, 2020 - 4:47 PM - 4:47 PM

YES THEY ALWAYS HAVE. It depends who you listen too. I wear the N99 whatever they are called. I had it before this virus. It has my makeup all over inside. I only have one. I ordered more on Amazon a long time ago, and they say I will get them this month. I ordered splash goggles too, and those with other masks will arrive the following month. I will share these with Kaiser I think. I need one more and they can have the rest. Geesh. I went to Lunardis in Danville. Not many folks there and they are keeping the place super clean. I even got a senior discount. Damn they did not ask me if I was a senior. I wiped down as many packages as I could with Clorox spray. I also had to buy toner for my Samsung printer. I ordered on the phone and on e mail from Office Max/Depot in Walnut Creek. When you drive up to the curbside a person with a mask and gloves meet you outside. You stay in your car and they loaded it in my trunk. I had to e mail them when I was there, and then you press curbside on the email and they bring it to you. I prepaid before on line. This took me a long time to learn how to get my toner, as Samsung was taken over by HP and Office Max/Depot carries them. Took many phone calls and texts to get to that. I hope this helps anyone who needs office supplies. What a pain. I tell you I am busier than ever and I am not sure why. CRAZY

I’ve been wearing an N95 mask while out in public shopping ever since they said that masks weren’t necessary.

S April 2, 2020 - 5:19 PM - 5:19 PM

in banks too? HUMMmmmmm

concord ygnacio April 2, 2020 - 6:25 PM - 6:25 PM

Are you sllowed to wear pantyhose or tights over your head if you don’t have a mask, or maybe a clown mask??

CD April 3, 2020 - 11:12 AM - 11:12 AM

LOL Concord Ygnacio,
Good One!!!!

Foonman April 2, 2020 - 6:40 PM - 6:40 PM

Have a N95 mask and wear it when I have to go to a store. What can it hurt? If I should be found to have COVID19 at least I’ve tried to do some good about not spreading it. Put a liner inside the mask and discard it as masks are scarce.

Roz April 2, 2020 - 9:12 PM - 9:12 PM

We have N95 masks which we had way before the Virus, for working on dusty & dirty home projects. There are people out there who are not sickly and may have the virus,…who knows, it could be me. I wouldn’t want to give the the Virus to anyone. Since we don’t want to use up the few we have, we have a little spray mister with Alcohol, to spray inside & outside the mask and let it air dry when we get home. Safer that sorry,…and hopefully the Alcohol has done it’s job. Oh! and wear gloves & safety glass,…and spray them too.

Aunt Barbara April 2, 2020 - 9:13 PM - 9:13 PM

and they blow gas, dirt and pollutants in our air, but refuse to see the poisons of Leaf blowers during a Pandemic… dumber than the rocks being blown at your cars.

Natalie April 2, 2020 - 9:13 PM - 9:13 PM

Since it’s allergy season, I’ve been taking allergy pills so I don’t sneeze in public when I need to run errands. I also use a non-prescription nasal spray. I carry cough drops just in case pollen in the air makes me want to cough. I have no signs of the having the virus, and as far as I know I’m heatlhy, but we all have to act as if we could be asymptomatic carriers.

Wearing a cloth mask seems like a good idea too; it’s not perfect but it’s something. Maybe something can be rigged up using a dryer sheet or some other material in the cloth to act as a filter?

Karl H April 2, 2020 - 9:19 PM - 9:19 PM

Gotta stay informed or pay the price of social shaming.

Chicken Little April 3, 2020 - 7:34 AM - 7:34 AM

We get it, Aunt Ester. You don’t like leaf blowers. In fact, you’re on a crusade against leaf blowers. But nobody is buying your BS about them blowing the virus around and infecting people. Get over it.

The Fearless Spectator April 3, 2020 - 8:57 AM - 8:57 AM

What TV show had Aunt Esther?

Kirkwood April 3, 2020 - 9:06 AM - 9:06 AM

So who has bandanas these these days besides cowboys and gang members?

Mac N Cheese April 3, 2020 - 12:05 PM - 12:05 PM

You do realize it doesn’t have to be a bandana right? You could cut up an old tee shirt or something. A pillow case, a sheet, old table cloth. You just need a piece of fabric.

Mac N Cheese April 3, 2020 - 12:02 PM - 12:02 PM

Sanford and Son had an aunt Esther.

BLC April 3, 2020 - 4:17 PM - 4:17 PM

I’m just gonna skip a step and wear a ventilator.

anon April 4, 2020 - 12:24 AM - 12:24 AM

Everyone should wear a mask when they have to go out for supplies and essentials. Period. It’s a minor inconvenience. You’ll survive wearing the mask for 13 minutes in the perfectly air conditioned store.
