Asia Express, located at 1803 Monument Blvd. in Concord (near Food Maxx), was closed on March 13 after inspectors from the Contra Costa County Health Department say they found the following.

  • 5+ live cockroaches on light switch at entrance to kitchen.
  • 3 live cockroaches on floor under shelving unit near entrance to kitchen.
  • 2 live cockroaches on floor in front of 3 compartment sink.
  • 2 live cockroaches on wall above hand wash sink.
  • 1 live cockroach on top of prep table designated for employee use.
  • 4 dead cockroaches on floor under 3 compartment sink.
  • 50+ dead cockroaches on glue trap near hot water heater.
  • 30+ dead cockroaches on glue trap under shelving unit near entrance to kitchen.
  • 20+ dead cockroaches on glue trap on shelf under prep table storing microwave.
  • 3+ dead cockroaches on floor under food prep sink.

The restaurant has since been reinspected and reopened.

The owner told the health inspector the facility receives pest control service from Terminix once a month. A Terminix technician arrived on-site during the inspection to complete routine service and provided a service report to the person in charge.

Up till a couple years ago my family went there ALL THE TIME! Great food, great service. Their family recognized us as regular customers. I think the older family members retired and left the place to the younger generation or something. Food and service was ok, but not the same. Glad they were able reopen quickly.

I too use to go there all the time….and it was run by a family out of San Francisco….then they retired and sold the business to a younger guy.(not family)..I went once since the new owner took over…and have never gone back…I will go to Lucky Star on Meadow Lane..much better food and cheaper prices.

Last time I was there ! While paying at the cashier. I seen two roaches crawling on the wall. I was disgusted and didn’t end up paying. I just walked away.

Take out only: delicious cockroaches to go.

They’re preparing the public for the new source of protein: insects! I see insects served all the time in futuristic movies and TV series. Crunchy! Of course PITI will complain.

Isn’t cockroach milk a “Thing” now days???????????/

When you cook delicious food they can smell it. They want some too.

I wonder if Termix will chime in? Who knows maybe the restaurant dropped the contact and hasn’t seen Termix in a while.

In the article, the Terminix employee arrived during the inspection.

And a partridge in a pear tree…

I gather they’re now closed except for take-out because of the corona virus, like all the other restaurants. Does that mean we have to request cockroaches as a side order?

Roaches like food too, im shocked! lmao

Note to self—don’t ever hire Terminex.

Something strange about Terminex showing up at the same time as the inspection. Doesn’t say much about this filthy restaurant or terminex. This may sound wrong, but certain cultures have different sanitation practices. Example; the development of new viruses that can spread and cripple entire countries.

They probably needed to prove they were getting services

These are new owners. Prices went up and the food went downhill. Will never go back.

Really!!! Over 10 years ago I was running a business on Monument Blvd. I befriended the exterminator that serviced our store and I asked him about local food places he personally serviced but would never eat at and He named this place, he said he did all he could but he couldn’t help them as they refused to follow his recommendations.
