Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Walnut Creek, is now in critical condition as of Saturday following his hospitalization last week to treat complications of pneumonia from a traumatic rib fracture that occurred in a fall during a run.
The congressman’s office had said on Monday that he was in serious but stable condition. The hospital later confirmed he tested negative for the COVID-19 coronavirus that has led to pneumonia-like symptoms in patients.
“Unfortunately, Congressman DeSaulnier’s condition has deteriorated and he is in critical condition. The doctors are doing everything they can to care for the Congressman. Mark’s family and staff appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” his chief of staff Betsy Arnold Marr said.
DeSaulnier, an avid runner who has completed 21 marathons, was already a survivor of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and founded the Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus. He was first elected to Congress in 2014 after serving in the state Legislature, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors and the Concord City Council.
Certainly don’t want to see him die. Just retire.
I don’t have much use for the cat, but that’s a tough go and I wish him well.

As much as I disagree with his policies and low hanging fruit politics I hope he recovers quickly and is back to health soon
Not a fan of his politics.
Setting that aside he’s just like all of us with hopes, aspirations. loved ones, friends, the pursuit of happiness.
I hope he can get better soon.
Get well soon Mark.
Nicely said.
I agree … get well soon Mark.
Politics aside, I wish him and his family well.
Well said, prayers for him and his family
Amen
Best wishes to Mark on his recovery.
I had the chance to chat with him a couple of years ago just standing in the middle of the street in front of his house and he was just a regular guy.
Not fond of his politics, but I hope he beats this.
that’s terrible. Please get well sir !!!
I am wishing him a full recovery. Mark and his family will be in my thoughts
Hope you recover soon.
And I hope all of us stay healthy. Best wishes to all.
Wishing him the best. This is very sad.
Sir, please get well so I can not vote for you again this November.
Don’t agree with his politics, but I pray he gets well very soon.
I sincerely hope he makes a full and speedy recovery, then decides to retire immediately.
Get well MR DeSaulnier, prayers are with you and family.
May God keep him in his loving arms during this most difficult time. I have the highest respect for Congressman DeSaulnier and pray for a full recovery.
Take a minute to look up traumatic rib fracture, is serious !
We’re a year apart in age and there’s no way you’re gonna ever see me out running. Hope Mark recovers, is time to be with family and retire.
I met him once at a fundraiser he seemed nice and his politics aligned with mine at the time. He was a state senator at the time.
I know one thing for sure. If he could DeSaulnier would issue a public statement right now.
I wish the information had included the name of the hospital where he is being treated. Many of us would like at least to send him a card.
Because I went through the broken ribs/pneumonia thing last February, I know what a sudden effect a high fever and heart rate of 155 feels like and how long it takes to feel really strong again even months after successful treatment.
May he fully recover.
They’re not going to tell you that for security reasons. However, if you send your cards to his office, I’m sure his staff will get them to him as soon as he can accept them.
Also never a fan of Mark’s politics. But he is a human being with hopes, wishes and dreams. He also has a family that cares for him. As such, I pray for his speedy recovery.
So Sad this is happening to him . such a Great Person 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hoping Mark pulls out of this and makes a speedy recovery.

Praying for you and others. There is too much suffering going on in this world. I had just lost my mom in January and I wish on no one the pain of losing a loved one. Hope you get well soon Mark.
Hoping for a speedy turnaround in his condition. Mark has been through a lot over the last couple of years. He is our prayers
Politics aside, I do pray for and wish the family well. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Like my others here, no fan of his elitist policies targeting the middle class, but I do wish him a speedy recovery,
Oh, no! I really wish I could send him a card too.
The comments from those who have disagreements with the Senator hearten me. That’s the great country, The United Sates of America, that is a huge part of who I am. Thank you!

and then Pray for all of us in these uncertain times. We are all in this mess together!
ok ok I had a glass of wine!
Anti gun socialist. No sympathy from me.
Is that all you can think about at a time like this? I feel sorry for you ….It must be a small angry world YOU live in.
Always a negative sad little person who makes times like this even worse. Please save your politics for another time, the man is fighting for his life right now.
Maybe you should practice social distancing indefinitely. Spare us all.
How spiteful. And how un-American. True Americans can wish each other well even if they disagree politically.

If only.
I would never wish any harm to somebody just because I disagree with their politics, I sincerely hope he recovers.
Get your pneumonia shot folks, it could save your life.
didn’t even know there was such a shot available. funny how john muir medical never tells anyone.
mev, pneumonia shot is usually for old folks or those with some specific existing medical issues. I think it is a once every 5 years shot. Would have helped deSau… His is injury related…
ps: I forget who it was…. But…. Notice I didn’t type “PRE”-Exisiting…
🙂
@S, The pneumonia shot is not just for old folks and it will last a lifetime. A year after the first shot, a booster shot is recommended.
Ah Dawg, I didn’t say just for…. I said usually…

Get well…Retire in Ca. PLEASE don’t retire in the state I want to move to and run for office.
Not a fan of his politics at all. But, I hope he recovers from this injury. Our prayers are with you and your family Mark.
Just one glass?
Re: Sending cards. I don’t know where he is, but John Muir Hospital used to have a free in-house service to send a card to any of the patients there.
Mark is hospitalized in Washington, D.C.
We should announce a Town Hall meeting regarding his hopeful recovery and gun violence.
All the best
Get well soon
Sincerely
Joe
Prayers being said right now and will continue.
Sending prayers and healing to Rep. Mark DeSaulnier.
Hoping he recovers safely and soon.
He’s way too much of a Centrist, but he’s been good to our community. Good guy.
Although I ran against him in 2018 and do not like his politics by any means, I hope he recovers very quickly and is back to full capacity in whatever endeavors he pursues from that point on. I also wish his family the best in this very troubling and difficult time. He and they are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mark
YO the man I never met you in person but I always see you on claycord. I hoping to attend to one of your meeting.
My prayer for you. May our Lord take care of you no matter how much we suffer we been blessed. God is Good to us .
With this difficult time being on a uncertain time never experience this before. I pray for God’s spirit to take care all of us.
Wishing Mark a comfortable recovery and a life free from political strife. Spend your time running the trails.
The Bells toll for you mark desaulner
Oh Klaus – I pity the day if you have to endure such partisanship when you are fighting a medical issue that has nothing to do with politics or R vs. D.
Klaus…. you’re a troll. Shame on you. The bells toll for thee.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a long, healthy life ahead.
Politics aside, this is a rough go of things, I hope he recovers soon. If you read the accounts and his history, there is reason behind his fracture. I dont care what anyones politics is, if you do and it gets in the way of wishing folks well, lets hope you never take ill as well.
ANON has referred to a certain vote several times on this feed. I wonder if he is mistaken on the name or if it is something I missed. Is he perhaps referring to HR5383, New Way Forward Act when he repeatedly asks us to check Mark’s vote on a “One Way Forward Act?” I cannot find info on the act to which he repeatedly refers. Thank you
It’s very scary when you suffer a life threatening condition. I might have died from a serious bladder infection. Doctors found that I could only pee if I put some light pressure on my bladder touching the general area with my index finger, very painful!

Yeah, I’m OK now.
But it was touch & go there for awhile.
hahahaha. Good one Brandi.
I have met our Congressman many times in many venues, whether at myriad Town Halls, the Concord Jazz Fest, celebrations of his constituents … He is a kind, erudite soul. How would the country outside the Bay Area know about The Port Chicago 50? About the plight of Isabel Bueso? I will always treasure a photo of him getting down on his knees to talk to my toddler granddaughter.
Send your kind thoughts to Team DeSaulnier here:

Thank you for the update and information.
Thank you for posting this, ConcordRez!
You talking about the same dude who carried water for the Public Safety Unions 3%@30 proposal that has or is Bankrupting every County Government or Municipality in the State? Like the person but hate his views.
Hey, did you know it’s possible to wish someone well without qualifying it with: “I didn’t agree with their politics but…”
Just wish the guy well. He has served us as a public official for a long time and continues to do so. He’ll never please everyone. Most people prefer him (it’s why he keeps getting elected) which really tells you everything you need to know about the readership on here.
I hope he’s ok. It sucks. The situation right now is hard and we need our reps on the front line working for us.
Most people posting here understandably don’t want their well wishes in any way construed as support for his politics which totally suck.
EXACTLY. Thank you for addressing the selfish ignorance here. The man may be in the final hours of life and his family is grieving. Your political opinions of him are of no service to anyone but yourself. Imagine if it was your loved one and consider his grieving family. Shameful.
What other people are saying, myself included, is that we can dislike the man’s politics but we do not dislike the man, and this is a nice thing. What would be the response if it was President Trump? I have a feeling a lot of Trump haters would wish him dead.
HooHaaHaHaHahahahaaaaaaaa
U make a funny.
It’s even possible to dislike the man himself, but still not wish him any harm.
Right. We’re “deplorables.” Hillary said so.
As someone who is not a fan of Trump let empathically say I would not, or do not wish him ill. Recently when Rush Limbaugh disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, it lot of people on Yahoo was gloating, and saying horrible things, such as hope you die soon. However, I have seen similar and mean spirited responses from conservatives when it is liberals. I don’t think any one party has monopoly of thoughtless meanspirited idiots.
Certainly if we are talking about Hitler, Stalin, Osama Bin Laden or Isis member I think it is okay to celebrate their demise and not worry about karma.
I truly wish you well, Mr. Desaulnier. I want you to be back soon to continue the good you have always done. And strength to your family at this trying time.
Prayers.
God bless.
get well soon alan alda
God love you and save you. We all need your help and love.
Pull through Mark – we’ll pick up politics later.
My prayers go out for your recovery Mark. You have worked so hard for all of us and represent our best interests in congress. I have always supported you as I supported Congressman Miller. You have never let us down. I was devastated to learn of your illness because I know you continued to fight for us even after going through the cancer scare. God bless and keep you. We love you.
Sending prayers for recovery
I don’t agree with his politics but I don’t want harm brought upon him.
Hopefully, doctors can save him.
