A female jogger was sexually assaulted on the Iron Horse Trail, near the intersection of Jones Rd. and Treat Blvd., in Walnut Creek on March 12 just after 7 p.m., according to the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department.
The jogger was traveling south on the trail, on the overcrossing at Treat Blvd., when she was inappropriately grabbed from behind by a male assailant. The suspect continued to run southbound on the trail and is still outstanding.
East Bay Regional Park District Police officers, along with officers from BART Police, Walnut Creek Police, and deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the area to assist with the investigation.
The victim described the suspect as a white male adult, between 25 and 27 years of age, between 5’09” and 5’10” tall, with a skinny build, with dark hair, a beard, or a goatee type facial hair and wearing all dark athletic type clothing.
The crime is the third incident of recent assaults on the Iron Horse Trail in the same area currently being investigated by the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department. The suspect’s description closely resembles the physical description of the suspect from two previous incidents.
The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the assault, was in the immediate area during the time of 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., or may have information regarding the identity of the suspect, to contact the East Bay Regional Park District Police Dispatch Center at (510) 881-1833 or the anonymous Tip Line at 510-690-6521.
hope he is caught soon. he’ll only escalate…
Please Catch This Guy. And When You Do…. Chop His Arms Off With A Machete. This Way He Can Never Touch Or Harm Anyone Ever Again.
That’s barbaric. He should be made to lay down in puddles so his victims can walk over him like a bridge to keep their shoes dry.
Face up.
That area has been attracting a lot of homeless druggies, especially near the contra costa canal on Treat, there’s been a tent encampment by Cherry lane, that WCPD can’t seem to dismantle.
@‘Bama – All of Cherry lane is county land and is in the CC sheriff’s jurisdiction.
Where exactly is the tent encampment? I use the Iron Horse Trail in that area from time to time and have not noticed any tents. There used to be an encampment underneath the bridge where Treat Blvd. crosses over Walnut Creek (the creek which is a concrete canyon in that area). Both sides of the creek there are in WCPD’s jurisdiction.
And remember, the politicians that will not allow you to have a concealed carry weapons license are the same ones that are trying to protect you from these predators. When seconds count the police are moments away.
She escaped a full blown rape or worse death or serious injury. This is not uncommon as you know this happens a lot. We are becoming more populated so crime go’s up. I would never walk or run in that area. It has occurred before there. It is foolish to be so vulnerable these days with all the weird people around. It is sad that people have to live in fear. I pray the victim will recover from that terrible experience.
Women should not jog alone after sunset in any case. I had a feeling the assault was on the bridge (limited egress) and I guess I was right. I suppose that’s the least likely location for that sort of thing. At least, compared to the Contra Costa Trail in P.H., which runs through some fairly secluded areas. There appears to exist a false sense of security in women these days.
