Gov. Gavin Newsom announced at a Sunday press conference that all bars, nightclubs and wineries should be closed, and nursing home and hospital visits will be restricted to end-of-life visitation.
Also, Newsom called for the self-quarantine of people over 65-years-old.

According to Reuters, Mexico has confirmed 26 cases of the coronavirus so far, with no reports of deaths.
They’re considering closing the border to US travelers.
I’m over 65, but I still work almost full time, I work for Macy’s. I’m not staying home unless Macy’s tell me to, which in that case I should get either unemployment or disability. I’m healthy, never had the flu, and haven’t had a cold in almost 10 years. Never the less I’m not casual about this virus, since there are many unknown, nor am I panicking, but it just seems total isolation for several weeks is not practical. I have no family close by to help with shopping etc. I’m sure I’m not the only one in that situation, in fact several of my coworkers are over 65.
I think a lot of officials think of “the elderly” like they did about 50 years ago. But aging baby boomers aren’t like that. Some even did years of nutritional counseling, preventative medicine and exercise routines. Like you they may not have even had a cold in years and flu even longer. It’s up to each individual.

I went out for a very nice bike ride this morning. Great without the school mom traffic. Weather reasonable, road mostly dry. I wish it was this way always. I mean like how can I stay healthy to fight off whatever comes along without regular fresh air and exercise? So that’s what I am doing. Weather looking good for the next few days too!

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has closed all the state’s bars and dine-in restaurants until further notice, starting at 9 p.m. Sunday. Restaurants will still be allowed to stay open for carry out and delivery.
Ohio is seemingly the first state to impose such restrictions, as the state attempts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Ohio’s Department of Health on Sunday reported 37 confirmed cases of the disease.

There are over 331 million people in the United states and only a little over 3.000 reported cases of the virus. California has about 40 million people with 335 confirmed cases and 6 deaths. When put into perspective, even with unreported cases, the numbers are very low.
Getting struck by lightning is very low, but that doesn’t mean you go stand in the middle of a field during a storm.
It’s about the testing.
Really makes one wonder how a country of such wealth and technology can only muster, after weeks of effort, 4,000 test a day. Meanwhile South Korea was doing 15,000 – 20,000 a day. Its hard not to come to the conclusion that they are deliberately slow-rolling this.

That is what I was thinking. Government should report statistics about daily death toll due to cancer, vehicle deaths, heart disease, suicides and you will see these numbers are quite high. Humans don’t think about death. Until we see humans dropping dead in front of you, then there will be something to worry about. The media is creating too much panic and the worse of humanity will come out.

Captain Bebops, I think for my generation, (first of baby boomers) aging is a difficult subject. For so long we were in majority, set trends, we were the generation that said don’t trust anyone over 30, so when I turned 60, I was like “Holy Cow” now I’m twice that age, but at 60 I was still hiking in Yosemite, and other areas in our beautiful state, and otherwise very active. Still get out and do things, but to my regret no hikes halfway to Half Dome, or the top of Yosemite Falls, at least I did it when I could, so cherish the memories.
I encourage CA’s politicians to self quarantine for 1 year in order to give this state a chance to recover from their idiocracy…

Well you could be infected and not show any signs but still be able to infect others. It’s they way vivid-q19 works read upon it and save someone else’s life.
The virus has in incubation period. You may not be showing any symptoms, but you could still be infectious and spreading it to other people. What happens if you get sick a week from now? There’s a very strong chance you were out infecting others during that time that you “weren’t sick”.
Even if you feel well and are healthy now, the outcome if the virus is contracted is far, far worse for the elderly. Younger people are suffering far fewer consequences. Statistics elsewhere are showing a very pronounced increased risk for over-60’s:

I hope everybody realizes that this pandemic was created by the media. In 2009, very few people had smart phones that gave them news updates every 30 seconds. Fast forward to 2020. We all have access to any news article we want in our pockets/purses. The media writes articles on what’s popular. We read what they write, and believe every word.

This wasn’t “created” by the media, but I agree that the media spreads fear and panic. In defense of the media – they’re just doing their job. It’s up to you how you interpret, and how often you read and watch.
Sadly, not everyone has a healthy enough mindset to keep it in perspective. Some will panic, some will totally ignore, and the rest of us will make our own wise decisions as mature adults, and trust our own judgment.
If I was over 65, I’d be beyond annoyed at being told to “stay home.” Granted, as we age things change, but there are people in their 70s that are healthier than those in their 30s-40s. A compromised immune system (at any age) would make more sense.
What if the Donald ordered all of us to stay home for two weeks (after telling us all to stop buying stuff)?

My husband and I are a few years shy of having to self quarantine. Last night we went to dinner and my husband sneezed not once but twice. Panic set in. Then he had to blow his nose. I was sure we were going to be asked to leave. Today saw a woman in Starbucks (older than dirt) standing by the front door entrance. I could tell by her body language she was very uneasy being out in public and standing where she was, probably not the best ideal.
