CDC Recommends Organizers Cancel Or Postpone In-Person Events That Consist Of 50 People Or More Throughout The U.S. For The Next Eight Weeks

The following information is from the Centers For Disease Control (CDC):

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populationshand hygiene, and social distancing.  When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus.

This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

8 weeks I don’t think so that pure stupidity

You need to read the next paragraph.

How are preschools suppose to practice social distancing? Children don’t follow the rules of staying away from each other especially because licensing allows up to 24 to 28 children per classroom. There is no way to socially distance them. If this were true they would be shutting down everything.

Shouldn’t we have been washing our hands multiple times a day before coronavirus?

Toilet paper for Respiratory illness?

I’m starting to think the only ones dying are those who are shoving toilet paper down into their lungs.

Many may not agree or understand, but the intent is to “flatten out” the curve. Can’t stop it, but the idea is to slow the onslaught to prevent the health care system from being overwhelmed…

But this makes no sense if you’re just shoving kids from an overpacked school to an overpacked daycare center. Unless the state of CA chooses not to close those too there’s not going to be a slowing down

This makes no sense if you are just simply moving kids from classrooms to daycare centers.

I totally agree with SQ. Unless you close down EVERYTHING you’re moving people from point A to point B. Cancel schools – overflow daycare. Cancel a parade, they’ll go out somewhere else in public.

Quit panicking and quit cancelling and closing everything down. Unless we all stay in our homes 24/7, never go to work, school, grocery stores, gas stations, public transportation, airports, libraries, post offices, etc. it’s ineffectual to try and stop the spreading. If you’re not one place, you’re somewhere else.

Unless you’re a coronaphobe, this is actually a good time to go out to eat. Very few customers, less people – less germs.

Thank you! It’s just stupid. You cannot stop the spread just by moving people from point A to point B
