The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management and the Department of Public Health on Friday announced the launch of a new COVID-19 public information system text message alert system.

The system will allow city officials to send real-time information to the public concerning the novel coronavirus in San Francisco.

Beginning Friday, the public can sign up to receive the text messages by texting COVID19SF to the shortcode: 888-777.

Officials said the system, which is being administered through the citywide alerting system AlertSF, will let public health and safety officials issue information and instructions about the novel coronavirus and will also be used to communicate the potential cancellation of major events and public facility closures.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath.

As of Thursday, San Francisco had two confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

On Wednesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency due to the novel coronavirus.

Wow
The sky is falling in sf

Too funny watching the timid run around with their hands in the air and screaming

WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE …..

But yes absolutely sign up so you can be informed of event closures
and where to donate money to the cause <<<<< you know that’s next

Cal scams and city managers ripping us off over taxes for roads and this is your ….end game tactic to save the lost souls

Wow
So next we will see the de slacker emergency town hall to show you how to administer hand sanitizer properly

Just so everyone knows …. they don’t know anything
This is a new virus and they have no idea how is spreads to why or how it even came to be

Best part is they are still allowing people to come into the country from infected areas
and lol even going and bringing them into areas not affected
Essentially spreading it

So yeah panic and do exactly what the politicians want
By texting their system and giving them kickbacks

Oh yeah and buy up all the toilet paper you can

That definitely will protect you lol

Just what I need, more automated text messages.

Heh, I had to click on the “Downtown Martinez” ad to see if they are still holding the “Baseball Parade” tomorrow. I was glad to see the parking meters wrapped with signs that the parade would mean no parking on Main (and elsewhere) Saturday due to the parade so I could stay away. Starting around City Hall you it become difficult to even get into downtown when there are parades because they block so many streets off. Bet they are still going ahead with it though it’s not listed as an “Event” but sometimes means that the other downtown group is sponsoring it. There seems to be an ongoing feud between the two groups. 😀

KQED Radio 88.5 fm, has less hysterical, up to date, COVID 19 Information.
Especially the program science friday
Looking for logic not hysteria.

Very true, but judging from the occasions I drop into the Claycord boards, most readers here figure KQED is a commie plot.

or at least Pinko

Imagine the mayhem if someone hacks into that system and sends an alert…outbreak at Pier 39, or Embarcadero Station, etc…I wouldn’t be surprised if Corona Virus Derangement Syndrome kills more people (directly and indirectly) than the virus itself.

BTW- How any of the hysterical nuts failed to get a flu shot this year? Or are anti-vaccination nuts? The good old regular flu kills +10,000 Americans every year and most people just yawn.

I’d rather they have a crap, needle and urine alert system so people would know what streets to avoid. Walking through that mess is way worse for everyone.
