I don’t have a single favorite here in Contra Costa but Little J’s in Pittsburg or Digger’s Diner/ NOLA’s in Concord for American food are all good places. La Tapatia or Taqueria los Gallos, both in Concord, if I want something Mexican.
I like hole-in-the-wall places that don’t break the bank
Sushi Sho in El Cerrito. Best Sushi in Contra Costa County and in most of the Bay. If you want humongous sauced up rolls with 10 difference ingredients then this is not the place for you. Think more Jiro Dreams of sushi. Reservations here are a must as there is almost never any walk ins.

My favorite place is actually new… I like Twisted Times in Walnut Creek! Their small plate presentations give me a wide variety of options. It’s a great place for families as they have a play space for my friend’s kids and TV’s to catch the Warrior game. They also have free parking- how great is that?
when dining at Jacks beware the mean spirited money hungry bartender named Ivan, (pronounced Yvonne). He will throw things, deny things and talk smack(in his foreign tongue) about customers in plain view of other diners. Avoid the bar area and you’ll be taken care of..

Montecatini in Walnut Creek, soooo good!!!!!!!!
Back Forty Texas Barbecue!
@Jeff; i found a full cock roach in my fried rice at dragons pond and have never gone back there. Be careful…Just saying
Was the roach cooked at least?
Not good. But better than finding half a cockroach with a tooth mark in it. 🙂
Don’t really have a favorite. I would like to try Mona’s Bar & Grill. I have heard great things about it but my diet wont allow me to just yet.
Jack’s in Pleasant Hill,
Dead Fish in Crockett, and
La Veranda in Pittsburg.
Dead Fish food has gone downhill the last year and servers and cooks are unhappy management counts the booze and it shows in their poor attitudes.
That is a shame.
Around here, catfish is the seafood item on the menu.

Brasas do Brazil. I love that place. I’d eat there every day if I could afford it.
Agreed! But definitely a special occasions destination! At that price range we like Fleming’s too.
Day to day would be Lucille’s. Also a huge fan of Hunan. Small plain place, but great food!

Four Corners (Italian) in Crockett.
Flippy’s or D’s (diner) in Rodeo.
FIORE there is no better food.
I agree.
El Charro in Lafayette. It has been there for over 70 years! Inexpensive and delicious food.
70 year old food is never appetizing. The Children run it now… get my drift? Gone are the days of quality food and health standards.
I still have a sore stomach from working there 40 years ago and eating so much of that green dip they make.

Consistancy is important. Lots of the places mentioned are great ….. sometimes.
On the other Jack’s is always good. Also consistently good is Back Forty.
