Four boys were arrested Monday evening after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase starting in east Antioch and ending in Concord.
The CHP said the pursuit started just before 6 p.m. on westbound state Highway 4 near Laurel Road. An officer observed the vehicle, a silver 2019 Kia Rio, traveling at more than 100 mph. The car failed to pull over for a traffic stop and continued on the highway.
Officers ended the pursuit near San Marco Boulevard for the safety of other motorists as the suspect was driving recklessly, according to the CHP.
As an officer exited the freeway at Willow Pass Road near Evora Road, and found the Kia had crashed into an embankment not far from the end of the off-ramp and was on fire.
A witness told CHP officers that the boys fled from the vehicle shortly after the crash. Officers surrounded the area and were able to find and successfully detain them.
Only minor injuries were reported to the boys in the vehicle. Nobody else on the roadway, including CHP officers, were injured.
The driver was taken to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Detention Center and the other boys were held in CHP custody until a parent or legal guardian arranged for their pickup.
Boys? How old…17-1/2? Minors yes, but doesn’t it sound silly to call them ‘boys’ these days?
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Boys? They are calling them boys until they are 30 now.
I would bet that if parents of kids found guilty of misbehavior were publicly named, there would be less juvenile crime.
What a bunch of Punks. Lock them up !
Now the DA needs to make a serious example of all of these kids to serve as a warning to the other kids
Our DA??? You’re FUNNY!
let me guess these so called boys
will be plead out by the ccc DA
as driving 100 mph was because they were scared and victims of profiling
as well as the lights scared the passengers they were concerned of an epileptic shock and speeded to avert a seizure
also the cops were probably white as they obviously were not since them being referred to as boys …so they were scared of that ….as well
as well as being seen on the side of the road pulled over by the police in a kia ….they were afraid of heckling by their peers ….
all in all no crimes here just a lawsuit against the police for pursuit and racism
welcome to demifornia
They were just boys… keep moving there’s nothing to see here…
Sarcasm…hope so, if not that has to be the lamest post ever.
Could some posters explain to me what crime the passengers committed? What do we lock them up for?
Did you actually “read” the article?
“…. the other boys were held in CHP custody until a parent or legal guardian arranged for their pickup.”
“We” didn’t lock them up nor did the CHP.
Accessory or accomplice who contributes assistance to the perpetrator. Didn’t the passengers run? They don’t look like innocent bystanders…
They committed “poor judgement”, and their parents should deal with them as such. Responsible parents would really pay attention to his and work to straighten them out. Other parents might put them in “time out” for an hour. Natural selection has a way of taking care of this sort of thing.
Let them go”’ just boy’s get real””
I noticed something in the pic so I read the comments to see if anyone else did. They have a spare tire mounted on the front passenger side which is always rated for 50 mph and 50 miles distance. Under sized spares are always supposed to be inflated to 60 psi but I imagine hardy few know that or even check their spare yearly.
How do I say this carefully? In some cultures the spare is not used to get to a tire shop, they simply run until it blows.
Good observation! I see idiots flying on the freeway at 75+ on spares. All.The.Time.
They were only held until mom or dad could get them? The driver and passengers were involved in a crime which could have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. California is playing out “The Fall of Rome” one step at a time.
Just wait til their insurance carrier gets wind of this…..
At least the car wasn’t stolen. Right?
IMO, MANY KIDS TODAY DONT HAVE A DRIVERLICENSE.
Not as bad as walking down a pier with your father on a warm day and someone shoots and kills you without convicted for murder. things are looking up.
Are you talking about the “Illegal Alien” get out of Felony Card? Do not pass on to ICE, do not deport card?
Sex offenders don’t even have to register for life anymore. California has lost its mind
Mom forgot to say”DRIVE CAREFULLY” as they walked out the door. 🙁
I suspect it started well before that.
@Ano
yes they do
@ Overwhelmed
Actually, new law scheduled to go into effect in 2021 dramatically reduces the number of sexual crime codes that are required to register for life. This was thanks to legislation put forth by that winner Wiener (of course as he’s all for protecting sex offenders) and signed into law by our famous past Governor Moonbeam.
_____
SACRAMENTO — Ninety percent of California sex offenders will no longer be required to register with law enforcement for life under a bill that Gov. Jerry Brown signed Friday.
The change is one of several sweeping alterations to the state’s 70-year-old registry contained in SB384 by Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco.
The bill allows most sex offenders to petition beginning in 2021 to be removed from both the public and the police registries 10 to 20 years after they are released from prison, as long as they have not committed another serious or violent felony or sex crime.
The state’s registry will have now have three tiers, with the first tier allowing people convicted of crimes like misdemeanor sexual battery, misdemeanor possession of child pornography and indecent exposure to petition to be removed from the registry after 10 years.
The next tier includes people convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, oral copulation with a minor under 14 years old and non-forced sodomy with a minor under 14 years old. The second tier, which requires sex offenders to register for a minimum of 20 years
Sure the parents of all including the driver will say “my son is such a good boy”….and the beat goes on. Already these four are criminals and they will only be placated just as all of the entitlement crowd feels they should never be held responsible for their actions. Agreed the driver should be deemed unfit to get a drivers license for life and his parents should pay for the time it took the CHP to chase their “great little boy” considering the officers could have been injured or worse. There is no respect for anyone it seems in California if you are not of a certain minority or race. Yes, I said it. We have to listen daily to the garbage spewed by the Liberals and entitlement crowd. Welcome to Socialist California. Wake up folks. Yes, my family were immigrants also, so don’t play that card.
You’re leaving out tier 3 which is actually a lifetime registration for high risk people. Look, minors having sex or sexting should not be on this list for life. Someone touching young kids should absolutely be on the list for life. A guy getting some action from a prostitute or who gay dudes doing something in a bath house? Yeah, who cares. Someone that violently rapes someone? They should be locked up and not have to worry about being registered.
uuuhh foon man
what insurance …lol
I mean really is that a joke
lol right
as like he had a license too right …..
I always speed away at 100 miles per hour to save my license
@ Pyrrhus
I specifically left out tier 3 because Overwhelmed’s statement was that sex offenders still must register. Tier 3 does still register, but 1 and 2 can petition to get off. While I really don’t care about tier 1 violators, tier 2 is another story. Sorry, but “lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, oral copulation with a minor under 14 years old and non-forced sodomy with a minor under 14 years old” are not crimes that should be removed. However, under this law, they fall under tier 2. That’s the point.
Hopefully none of the “boys” (LMAO) or their parent felt disrespected when the Police made contact with them
