Congressman Mark DeSaulnier introduced a bill to support affordable housing and development projects located near transit hubs.
The Equitable Transit Oriented Development Support Act (H.R. 5783) makes federal transportation infrastructure loans available for building affordable housing and developments in “underserved communities”, with a particular focus on developing near convenient transit hubs.
“The high cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area, has forced families to move much farther from their workplaces and away from convenient transit hubs. We need to ensure Bay Area residents are provided convenient and affordable options,” said DeSaulnier. “Increasing access to transit is good for the environment, good for the economy, and good for everyday workers.”
Great idea, house the bums near a good area to beg.
Low income, pal, not bums. Like the people who prep your burgers and pizzas. You’re thinking about the “navigation centers” the City uses to corral their homeless.
John P the people who prep your burgers live 12-16 people in a 3-4 bedroom apt and have 12-16 cars and lots of money to mail home.
james, I totally agree with. I know of multi-generational families, in our country it’s a rare thing, but in there’s it’s regular thing. Yes, a one bedroom and you have six cars.
Add “clean and safe” to “convenient and affordable” and you might be on to something.
He also supports open borders, allowing illegal alien felons to stay in the country, medicaid for illegal aliens, abolish ICE, no bail for felons, and every other social experiment to bring down the country. However nothing for the average Joe citizen. There is a republican running for his seat in the upcoming election.
Nisha Sharma is the only Republican running against this Bozo.
Yup, open borders, no ICE. Then he cries that there’s too many people here, no one can find a place to live!
What a fool.
I’m voting Republican right down the line…This BS has to stop.
I’m 41, a registered Democrat since I was 18. 4 years high school, 4 years college, 5 years post college.
I am this close to changing parties. There is just so much pandering to lowest common denominator now. Giving stuff away, as well intentioned as it might be, does not help. People do not appreciate things that are free. Talk of free college, free healthcare (MediCal), food stamps. Put the money into training and education. Help people help themselves.
I would now vote for Romney without hesitation, but I cannot vote for Trump. I’m fuming in this political mess that we have now.
I’m voting for Nisha, instead if Mark this time. Marks gone off in an extreme left- orbit of earth since we elected him. Earth to Mark, earth to Mark, do you hear us?
Kelka how does it feel to be the only one in the country that would vote for Romney. Do you remember all of the things democrats said about him when he ran against Barak. You really have to get your act straightened out.
Kelka, as of late I find both the Dem’s and Repub’s disgusting…. Thinking to re-regis as Independent.
Romney is a Rat
If I remember correctly this bright idea – that Mark just came up with – has already been introduced by Scott Weiner and was rejected.
You’re right on, and if it was rejected in liberal California, it should die right there. But, no, DeSaulnier will take it to the delusional house for another partisan vote. Hopefully, clearer heads will prevail and it will be defeated there, also. Enough is enough!
Shouldn’t this be a states’ issue?
Do you realize who “they” are? About 70% of the bay area population. SEVENTY. 70% cannot afford to live here. There’s a problem pal. (https://www.car.org/en/marketdata/data/haitraditional)
In what way does this fall under the constitutional authority of the federal government?
The bay area liberal elite democrats need to keep their slave labor close by . Just not in their neighborhoods . It’s okay to ruin yours. Just keep believing their lies and voting for them .
Rather than trying to handicap the horse race, just let supply and demand do its job. Boomers are moving out as they retire and access their home equity. Business must be located near life costs that are attainable for their staff. If not, they relocate such as The North Face did. Companies are no longer holding their expensive conferences in San Francisco because it’s expensive and filthy. These are all drivers of supply and demand.
Jobs must be available and with pay that is commensurate with life costs, not just housing. These guys are approaching a macro situation with a micro proposal. It won’t work.
10 years ago you couldn’t give a house away and apartments for rent everywhere? So what has changed? Why are we where we are?
More people out of state? More people out of country?
Just curious why no one studies the why?
More people out of country?
It is interesting if I remember correctly Habitat for Humanity tried to build condos near WC Bart, but now those are high luxury apt/condos. I had to redo my budget to afford rent here. I sold too soon, my bad. High-density living creates more opportunities for crime. If the new prop 13 passes that will set in stone permanent funding for these yahoo’s to keep the unworking or underemployed coming in droves to get their free stuff. Ugh Mark, go away and retire already.
I have a bunch of Economics textbooks I’d be delighted to read to Mark, as clearly his ignorance is showing (again). Government IS the problem
Yep, a lot more people could afford to live in the Bay Area if they weren’t forking out huge amounts of taxes to support illegal aliens and their children in every give-away program to which they have access,
I guarantee you there won’t be any section 8 housing around the ritzy part of Clayton where Mark lives.
Judging by the signs posted, I don’t think DeSaulnier’s street really wants ritzy Clayton residents on the street. It’s the unfriendliest sign I’ve ever seen. So, I drove down it really slow, turned around, and came back just to see why it was so much more private than any other street. Didn’t see anything I’d call “special.” I’ve lived in Clayton off and on since 1958 — technically, DeSaulnier doesn’t really live in Clayton. They just let him think so.
I voted for his opponent. Mark has been such a tool for the Democrats. Nothing original from this politician.
So, Mark: is it time to rein in the renegade Concord city council? Their idiotic soccer stadium is a boondoggle for the ages, and it would take up prime land for housing near BART. Can you sue them to stop spending any money on it, and maybe investigate some of the members for conflict of interest. Birsan immediately comes to mind.
Housing hmmm
So 12 million yes million illegals all housed by section 8 gov
well tax funded really
And you say 10 years ago well the bubble burst and when the properties dropped their drawers the Chinese bought them all and yes waited for those section 8 illegals to need housing
Those same illegals are driving up Pay for the low wage jobs
Being democrats they pushed for fast food raises over 15dollars
Driving the cost of living up of course
Illegals are the democrats secret weapon
They are using flawlessly to rule and molest you and your families into servitude of their party agendas
You should applaud them and keep up the status quo
We are being gouged for road repairs that obviously are not being done
There are bums at all the freeway exits pushing the narrative
There are embedded democrats in all the colleges pushing the children to see only democrat blue and allow chaos and crime to rule us
The cccounty DA Said outright illegals will not be prosecuted for anything
De slacker is doing everything to under mine potus at the direction of pelosi
And that is fine for voters
The Chinese have bought over 50% of this states real estate
The effect of changing the free America into a socialist communist state owned by the Chinese is happening
The democrats are being manipulated by these agendas and using this state and New York as the litmus test as securing both coasts and ports are key to domination
You’ve performed admirably and blindly Gratz
Wadling around complaining and voting democrat to ease your egos
All the while giving away America and it’s freedoms one at a time
When the guns are taken away
We all lose
Those people with guns and who are responsible to the 2nd amendment
are there for your protection
When you allow them to lose their rights
The take over will soon follow
Be proud of America
hating and slandering and disrespecting people who vote differently only serves domination
The democrats have been in conrol of this state for 50 years
Yes the people voting dem for everything
And this is The result
No one to blame but yourselves as manipulated people by smarter people
You don’t even get to see or vote for
Those politicians are playing roles in your total dominance
and this is the result it has never gotten better it has only gone downhill
Name one thing that has helped you under democrat rule
Has you pay gone up has you fees gone down has the dmv gotten better have the roads gotten better have to tolls gotten lower has Bart gotten cheaper
Have your children’s education gotten better has your happiness gotten better
Explain how democrats of this state have helped you by you voting for them
And no plastic straws and multiple restroom designations are not helping you get to work on time or helping traffic or making your children’s grades better or education level higher
Be true and ask what has gotten better under democrat control
What did they fix ?????
Please vote this clown out of office next election!!!!
Jurysout
Far be it for me to EVER support ANYTHING done by Mark, and I am certainly no bleeding heart liberal, But really?
Do you not have a clue how society works? To lump all low income individuals like that is quite pompous of you! These, again, are your waiters, waitresses, store clerks, and even many teachers. These are not bums! They are integral parts of our society. I’m happy you are able to make it here, as am I. However, not all are as fortunate as us, and we can’t do without them.
With the exception of seniors, I’m not talking bringing in section 8. But inexpensive housing is not always a bad thing if it’s done right. It’s this last fact that we can count on going astray given it’s a Mark project.
Open the doors to your homes Marky, Libby, London & Scotty.
Looks like people are on to your scams mark. It’s true they weaponized all these illegals against us. You and Gavin need a wake up call But all that corporate money for the cheap labor you provide them probably keeps your pockets filled doesn’t it. I think most of us are tired of financing your bolshevik wet Dreamz maybe you should call Brad Pitt and ask him for a loan for this little project of yours .
Housing wouldn’t be so expensive here if people would stop approving every feel good bond measure that comes along.
I have a deep heart, however I am so sick of hearing about this. If you can’t afford where you live, move. It’s been decades, we always had affordable housing, it’s called renting an apartment or living in a trailer park. “Why should someone who bust their ass making $ 95k a year, live next door to someone who only makes $20k a year.
