Same initials, different company.

OSH is returning to its former stomping grounds in the the Clayton Valley Shopping Center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Concord.

The building has been vacant since Orchard Supply Hardware left in Nov.2018. The new company, Outdoor Supply Hardware told Claycord.com they expect to open within the next few months.

Outdoor Supply Hardware currently has stores in Moraga, Napa, Capitola, Berkeley and San Jose. They recently purchased the OSH brand from Lowe’s for an undisclosed amount, according to reports.

Excellent! So glad to hear!

Darn… no Trader Joes! Well still hoping K-Mart turns into Target.

Good. Target is just more expensive Kmart, and we only have to go down the road a little bit to get to one.

Good. Target is just a more expensive Kmart, and we only have to go down the road a little to get to one. There was much wrong with Kmart, but between the 2 stores we had a bit more variety of things to choose from. I have a beautiful fruit bearing olive tree and a Goji berry bush I got 3 years ago for $5.00 each, and I don’t know where I’ll find huge Bali window shades for $20 bucks now. They’re so good at blocking the sun streaming for a few hours in Summer, better than aluminum blinds, but they don’t last forever of course. I don’t know what I want in there. Something for entertaining that’s family friendly and not outrageously expensive would be my choice.

I hope the new store is at least 1/2 as useful as the original OSH, or even Yardbirds was. That would be great!

So Target isn’t interested if they can’t sell groceries?

The goal is to make Lucky just go away, now

@Silva. Well, you get what you pay for. kKmart may be cheaper, but Target has better product, customer service, and everything else.

I wonder why Lowes just didn’t open a store in that location? Oh well, I liked OSH before and I am sure I’ll like the new store.

Lowes and Home Depot have a history of real estate transactions designed to keep potential competitors far away from their stores. The merger of Alnertsons/Lucky with Safeway resulted in a lot of empty buildings that won’t be leased to another grocer.

terrific !!

Yes!

Ah, that’s fine I guess. I was hoping for a Trader Joes or Sprouts there or something but that’s fine. 😀

I wonder if the still-empty downtown pleasant hill location will be OSH too?

I love the old OSH (Orchard), but this being a new company, we may not get the same excellence we had with the old OSH. But I’ll still be glad to have any kind of hardware store within walking distance.

Yay! That’s great news. Exactly what we needed back in this space!!

Should I bring back the shopping basket that I took on the last day of the old OSH in PH? Bought some stuff in the basket and just put it all in the car. It’s really handy while working around the yard.. I keep some drip parts and stuff in there.

You’re the reason they went bankrupt. I heard it was the loss of that last basket that put them over the top! 🙂

ROTFL. Thanks for the laugh!

Was the basket for sale, and did you pay for it?

That’s theft, Jojo. But to quote you, “you can think whatever you like.”

Oh, so the truth comes out. And, bragging about it, too. Watch your wallets.

Hopefully it has the same great service as the old one.

Happy to have OSH again nearby. Hope their prices are good, and also have sales on items.
.

Good deal….very convenient for most hardware items. Have you tried to park at Home Depot lately? We need more competition for HD and Lowes.

Ace is nearby on Clayton Rd and there’s plenty of parking.

I love that Bill’s Ace. It’s a great store, I go there a lot. I think they must treat their employees well since I remember several of them from decades ago.

There is an employee at that Ace hardware that has worked there since 1973.

Love the train calendars

Great to hear. I hope it’s the original owners buying it back.

Lucky would probably benefit if Target came in with the additional traffic to the shopping center.
They could negotiate that Target not have a grocery section.

I’ve shopped that place since YardBirds, HomeDepot, OSH and now new OSH. It takes me about a year to learn a hardware store so I don’t need help finding items. I’m just now ACE fluent, oh well, half the fun is wandering the store, here we go again.

GREAT NEWS! Figured something was up being there was never “For Lease” sign in the window. Their stores look great online when you see pictures of Moraga and Napa. Also, their parent company has many unique hardware concepts throughout the US. I know Mr Mayor we had exchanged emails hoping for something like this. Hopefully they are open by summer.

As for those hoping TJs or such opening up-would never happen Grocery Outlet and CVS would both fight that w/out a doubt. And I am sure both their leases exclude another large grocery style store from the center.

FYI for those asking the former CEO of OSH (San Jose offices) along wiht CNRG are opening the stores up-
“CNRG will create a new brand for the seven new branches, called Outdoor Supply Hardware. Outdoor Supply Hardware will become the 16th brand operated by CNRG. CNRG will bring its own merchandising assortments to the stores, but the retailer said it will strive to honor the long-standing appeal of Orchard Supply by offering many of the same products and services.”

My guess is you’ll see the same type of store OSH operated under Lowe’s focusing on outdoor, gardening, holidays, and the quick fix hardware items so many went to the stores for.

Best news I’ve heard in a long time…

You couldn’t have said it better! Yea! We need more hardware stores. OSH was the best ever. Happy to see it get a second wind. Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈🍾 to them and our community.

I had a lot of unpleasant experiences at OSH. I stopped going there a long time ago.

The new store is a longer drive than Lowes, so I’ll keep Lowes and Ace as my two favorite places.

Hooray!!! Several of us posted on their Facebook page many months ago asking them to come! I’m very happy!

YAY!!! I’ve missed having a hardware store down the street! Can’t wait for them to open 🤗

Fred Meyer is a Kroger store, and Kroger has been working overtime lately figuring out how to provide even less customer service. I figured that if I was going to be treated like a Walmart customer, I might as well go to Walmart and save some money.

And if you read Lawrence Montgomery’s thread above, you’ll see that Lucky will not allow any other grocery store in that shopping center.

If they are anything like the original OSH, that is fantastic news. Just 3 or 4 days ago I did a Google search on Outdoor Supply Hardware to see of there was any chance they would be reopening the store, but there was no mention of it on their website. I started shopping at the oldest San Jose location as a teenager (which was a LONG time ago). Ace on Clayton near Treat is a good store (I bought some things there yesterday), but not nearly as convenient for those of us in Clayton, and doesn’t carry some of the things that OSH did.

It’s about time…wish they would re-open the store in Pleasant Hill….I miss OSH….nothing has been able to compare with their customer service…..

The old OSH location would be better for Target if they’re truly interested in the area, and then have Outdoor Supply move into the old K-Mart. Course, I still think Target needs more room.

But then CVS, Grocery Outlet, Ross and Sally would probably struggle if Target were there.

If Target were serious, another alternative would be to consider land next to the college.

As far as Outdoor Supply coming to the area, another hardware store would be nice. I’ve been going to Ace a lot in the past few months, and unfortunately while they have a great variety, I’m not always able to find what I’m seeking.

Wuuunderbar!

This new OSH is a company pulled together from past employees

Yes! Wonderful news. I hope they have a nice garden department with quality outdoor and household items. I have missed that store.

For those keeping score, this will be the fourth hardware retailer occupying that commercial space. It will be only a matter of time before that one goes belly up too.

Damn, I was holding out for a Mervyns

Or a Montgomery Wards

Or a BEST! Lol. That place was so fun when we were kids, watching the toys come around on the conveyor belt! It was where the JC Penney Home Store was.

Target would of been great! Target has great prices. Whoever says target is more expensive than Kmart doesn’t shop enough. I have 3 kids and I find way better deals at target. I thought Kmart was more pricey with a bad selection.we really need something though because I can’t get all my toiletries and household items at cvs and lucky. Their prices are double as compared to Walmart and target 😡

I hope they will host free children s events like hold OSH

That us great news. Many of the vacant buildings are just draws for crime and homelessness.

My niece and nephew in Minnesota hated K-Mart. They were not impressed with the quality even when they were 10 years old. They called it
Kame-a-Part

Oh, they’re very good!🤣 I’m stealing that.

Wanderer, you forgot Handy Man

Thank God! It can’t come back fast enough!

Forget OSH! I want Yard Birds back. Clayton, a guy who worked at Yard Birds, gave to me on the last day they were open the last green ball cap they had. I still have it, in perfect shape no less.

Great news! There are still hobbyists and do-it-yourselfers that need these resources. It’s much more fun to go purchase actual hardware than to look at pictures of hardware on the internet…….it’s up to us to explain this to millennials.

I hope the new osh will return I loved the store, their merchandise, their employees, and location.. I do not want Luckys to leave. I prefer Lucky to Safeway.

Having switched to Ace when OSH closed, I actually prefer ACE to other hardware stores that have been in the building including Yardbirds, Home Depot, and OSH. I remembered why I kept going to ACE for years even after Yardbirds opened. Sure OSH will be closer, but they also have a lot of stuff I don’t really need. Hardware stores can be kind of intimidating, but the staff at ACE are so helpful they make it easy.
