Another flu death was reported in California this week, bringing the total to at least 55 statewide.
Flu season had an earlier start than usual in 2019 and deaths have occurred faster than last year.
As of Dec. 28, the most recent data released by the state Department of Public Health, there had been 54 flu deaths in California.
Through the same period a year ago, there had been 42.
State officials warn that there have been above-expected levels of hospitalization this year. The health department recommends everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine.
Anyone 65 years old and older or with chronic conditions is considered particularly at risk for flu-related complications, state officials said.

According to a KTLA report last month, “Sixteen people, including two children, have died of influenza-released [sic] causes since the season began Sept. 29, according to the California Department of Public Health. I wonder which is correct, as it seems unlikely there have been 40 deaths in about 3 weeks.

Weird, the first paragraph of your link has results from November. This report is dated Dec 28, and implies the flu is spreading. Reading comprehension is an under valued sport sometimes.

It’s not too late to get vaccinated. The flu season runs until May. Even if you are in good health and can handle the flu just fine, it’s best to get vaccinated so you decrease the likelihood of passing it onto someone who can’t.

I am sick of being hounded by my doctor on every visit to get vaccinated, They are pressuring me to take these vaccinations. What’s up pressuring people even when told NO. They are not behaving like doctors but like drug pimps for pharma.
I regularly got bed-ridden sick almost every year. After I started getting the flu shot every year it stopped. Nobody has to convince me of anything I know it works.
All I know is I have not caught a cold or flu since I started getting flu shots the last 9 years. Prior to that colds were common and I had the flu 4 times in a two year period. Flu shots work for me with no side effects.

Ever since I had my first one 34 years ago I’ve almost never been sick, and when I was I wasn’t even inconvenienced by it, as opposed to catching everything my kid brought home from school one illness after the other. After my first year with the vaccine I was sold. I won’t go without it. One time my mom (a preschool teacher) didn’t get hers and was near death for two weeks. Sometimes I can feel something trying to start up a colony in my throat and I think “Oh oh!” The next day it’ll be gone.
