The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has filed five counts of first degree burglary against 57-year-old James Lipston of Clayton and 25-year-old Devaughn Cooper of Clayton, according to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.
The Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after detectives were able to connect a recent burglary in Orinda to an attempted burglary in Alamo. The Investigation Division, along with the specialized patrol unit J-Team, were able to identify Lipston and Cooper as the suspects, as well as the vehicle they were using, detectives said.
Authorities say they were linked to at least six residential burglaries in Alamo and Orinda,
On Tuesday, January 7, detectives began surveillance of the suspects. On Wednesday, January 8, at about 11:45 a.m., detectives arrested them in the area of Kaitlin Place and Court Lane in Concord. Lipston and Cooper were arrested as they exited a residence with stolen property, according to detectives.
Both were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of residential burglary. Cooper is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. Lipston, who is on parole, is being held without bail.
Detectives later executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence in Clayton. During the search of their vehicles and residence, a large amount of stolen property was recovered, in addition to a significant amount of narcotics, detectives said.
Detectives believe Lipston and Cooper may be responsible for numerous other burglaries. The Sheriff’s Office is now in the process of attempting to return the stolen property to the rightful owners.

Sounds like that brave neighbor with a gun in Concord stopped a crime wave…I think the home burglary rate us going to go down in our Coiunty. Devaughn Cooper has been arrested 22 times since 2015, including felonies of burglary, elder abuse, etc. He should be in prison for life.

It is true. His arrest record is posted online. It’s pathetic that he’s been arrested that many times for serious felonies, and isn’t in prison. Our laws in CA are a joke thanks to liberals.

It seems odd to me they’d choose Clayton for their home base. If I were them I’d want to keep a low profile and not stick out like a sore thumb. It doesn’t seem like it would be easy to fly under the radar there, would it? Maybe I’m making erroneous assumptions, I haven’t been to Clayton for a while, not past the shopping centers anyway. These two knuckleheads definitely do not fit the profile of anybody living in Clayton. It’s a darn shame that a homeowner didn’t put a cap into these two when he caught them burglarizing his home. Two less juice bags causing havoc for decent, law-abiding citizens.
