BART will run trains until 3 a.m. on New Year’s morning with some changes in service after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to accommodate the crowds expected to pack downtown San Francisco for the fireworks show.

To minimize platform overcrowding at Embarcadero, Montgomery St., and West Oakland stations, beginning at 8 pm, trains will skip stops into and out of San Francisco as follows:

GOING INTO SAN FRANCISCO AFTER 8 PM:

  • Antioch and Richmond line trains heading into San Francisco will not stop at Embarcadero Station. Riders should exit at Montgomery St. Station for the fireworks show.
  • Dublin/Pleasanton and Warm Springs line trains will not stop at Montgomery St. Station. Passengers should exit at Embarcadero Station for the fireworks show.
  • Trains from Millbrae, Daly City, and SFO will stop at all stations in San Francisco.

AFTER THE FIREWORKS END:

  • Antioch and Richmond line trains will not stop at Embarcadero Station. Passengers should use Montgomery St. Station to catch these trains.
  • Dublin/ Pleasanton and Warm Springs line trains will not stop at Montgomery St. Station. Passengers should use Embarcadero Station to catch these trains.
  • Dublin/Pleasanton and Warm Springs line trains will not stop at West Oakland. The first East Bay stop will be Lake Merritt Station. Passengers will need to transfer to an SF-bound train at Lake Merritt to double back to West Oakland.
  • Millbrae, Daly City, and SFO-bound passengers should use Montgomery St. Station.

On New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan.1, BART will operate on a Holiday/Sunday timetable with service beginning at 8 am. Parking will be free, but all other parking rules will be enforced.

Fer Christ’s Sake, it’s 2019, er 2020. 24/7 please.

News Year’s eve on a BART train is probably the last place anyone should be. Have a designated driver instead; it’s safer.

About 20 years ago, the wife & I made the horrible mistake of using BART to attend New Year festivities in the City. If you enjoy drunken crowds of puking, violent gang members on crap-laden streets, then, riding home on a train packed full of the same … go for it!
btw: Happy New Year!

Haven’t rode the dilapidated unsafe and filthy system in years and won’t until a new board of directors come to address the real issues. We don’t need a system run by social activists. BART needs REAL managers dealing with the REAL issues. It’s a shame and a complete waste of taxpayer dollars.

Ah, let’s see: drunken revelers (and drivers!); cold temperatures; violence and mayhem on the transportation system. No, I think we’ll stay home and try to survive another night in the Bay Area.

I think I’ll pass on that. Enjoy the ride!

As if! As if anyone rides BART anymore that doesn’t absolutely HAVE to. It’s just not safe any more and neither are the parking lots. If I have to go to the city, either I have a designated driver, use UBER, or I don’t drink. Anything but ride BART anymore.
