Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) issued the following statement after voting in favor of articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump.
“The reality and urgency of this moment could not be more consequential to American democracy. President Trump violated the law by soliciting foreign interference in our elections,” Congressman DeSaulnier said. “With the President’s pattern of escalating behavior, failing to hold him accountable for his actions will lead to more violations. This President is a threat to our national security. That is why today I voted to defend our democracy, uphold our oath of office and the Constitution, and impeach President Trump.”

This is a perk that all members of congress enjoy. Officially, it is so that our Senators and Representatives can keep their constituents up to speed on what’s happening in D.C. To qualify, the mailers must have some informational benefit. Unofficially, the politicians use it as an advertisement to keep their name in front of you.

Clinton was held in civil contempt of court by Judge Susan Webber Wright for giving misleading testimony in the Paula Jones case regarding Lewinsky and was also fined $90,000 by Wright.

The most glaring difference is that both prior impeachments were clearly bipartisan. The only bipartisan part of this process has been the vote AGAINST adopting the Articles of Impeachment.

Of course not – impeachment is SOLELY a political process. And I’m willing to bet that NONE of the democrats in the house would recognize the Constitution if it bit ’em in the a$$.
Just because he is unlikely to be removed from office by the Senate does not mean “nothing” is accomplished. It is still the strongest possible censure available to the House to indicate that this conduct is not acceptable: (1) soliciting a foreign country to interfere in US elections; and (2) disregarding Congressional subpoenas. This impeachment is still important precedent.
In contrast, doing nothing would be doing nothing and would be make Congress complicit.

Telemarketing falls under the FCC which has taken minimal steps to address this. It would be better to propose specific solutions, I am not a lawyer but I have been suing telemarketers for a few years now. My experiences have shown me where the laws need to be strengthened. Please copy this and send it to our legislators.
The federal and state laws established the Do Not Call list in 2003. These laws have done little to stem the tide of telemarketing calls. I receive close to four hundred calls every year on my landline alone. I have counted them. There are other laws informing telemarketers what they must and must not do but they are ineffective and not enforced. Some of these are cited below.
What these laws are missing is relief for the victims of telemarketing calls. I propose the following
$500- penalty for the victims for each of the following violations with (as the current law dictates; The Telephone Consumer Protection Act article 47USC) triple damages for egregious or knowingly and willfully violating the telemarketing laws.
=> If the displayed number is spoofed (i.e. not the actual calling number) then a $500- award for the victims of the call. There is an FCC law calling for up to a $10k fine but it is not enforced. Over 99% of telemarketers spoof their number.
=> It is state and federal law requiring the calling companies to identify their true legal name right after a salutation but no penalty is assigned if they don’t. Make it $500- for the consumer that succeeds in identifying them.
=> It is against the law to call using a pre-recorded message (robocalls, sound boards of phrases, voice response units etc.) but no penalty is assigned.
=> AND triple damages for each violation for knowingly and willfully violating the Do Not Calls laws or repeated offenses.
=> Please extend the statue of limitations for telemarketers to 10 years. It took me that long for me to identify a robocaller offering to clean my carpets.
=> I request the current California Small Claims court limit of two law suits over $2,500- within 12 months be vacated when a case is against a telemarketer. And allow this in other states.
=> The benefitting company must be help responsible for the violation regardless of how they obtained their lead (consumer’s phone number). Companies hire in country lead generating companies and overseas callers who refuse to stop calling when told. I have been harassed by a few companies with as little as 2 people who use an overseas calling company.
It takes time and effort to identify the offending parties. I can not find any lawyer willing to help. But a web search shows plenty will to defend telemarketers. Some law firms even specialize in defending telemarketers.
Please empower the consumers willing to fight this scourge with these tools. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Just like the taxpayer funded mailers, the robocalls are there to keep the constituents informed. Just have the a message like, “Come to my town hall meeting to discuss recently passes laws” is sufficient to show a benefit to the voter.
BTW, I don’t believe for a second that our beloved politicians are using these benefits primarily to help us. It’s but another (legal) scam that they use to convince us that they are actually working.
