To ease the hustle and bustle of getting your holiday shipments in the mail and on their way, certain East Bay Post Offices will be open for full retail services on three Saturdays in December, the 7th, 14th and 21st.
With the busiest week projected to be December 16-22, the extra hours help customers dashing to the Post Office to get their shipments in the mail.
The following central Contra Costa County post offices will be open for retail service on Saturday, December 7, 14 and 21:
- Concord Main – 2121 Meridian Park Blvd. 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Martinez Main – 4100 Alhambra Ave. 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Walnut Creek Main – 2070 N. Broadway – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wait aren’t they open on Saturdays already???? Normal Sat hours are 9-2. So they are going to be open for 2 more hours till 4. Hmmmm
Both Claycord’s and the USPS notices about this are badly worded. The USPS version is slightly better in that the headline is says they are adding hours but the body of the USPS notice implies that the post offices are normally closed on Saturdays.
Oddly, they are not extending all post offices. For example, Orinda normally is open from 10am to 12:30pm, Lafayette from 10am to 1pm, Pleasant Hill from 9am to 2pm, and Clayton from 10am to 2pm. None of those facilities will be extending their hours for the holidays.
I suspect the USPS holiday hours program will disappoint many people as they would have heard that post offices have extended hours for the the holidays but will not realize that it only applies to a few branches and that the hours are still very limited.
