A vegetation fire is burning behind 4950 Alhambra Valley Rd. in Martinez.

Cal Fire has been called in to assist with this blaze.

This fire was caused by fireworks, and it is threatening homes, according to Con Fire. The fire is on a steep slope and is difficult to access. It’s currently burned about one-acre.

Well, two causes, actually. Fireworks… and criminal-grade stupidity.

I wonder if this is why I could smell smoke earlier. I live in north Concord, in an apartment with old, single-pane windows, so the elements tend to come right through. I thought I detected a faint smell of smoke earlier this evening.

Thanks to our firefighters and Cal Fire. Find them and lock ‘Em up and throw away the key.
Seriously. YES. Criminal stupidity

I agree. What kind of idiot sets off fireworks in that kind of location under these condition. The fool is too stupid to be let loose.

A fine and a couple nights in jail or juvenile hall should help prevent vegetation fires.

What a careless act of stupidity! If, in fact, they are local property owners, I think their insurance company should cancel their homeowners policy! That might make them think twice about pulling a dangerous stunt like that again.

I hope you’re not being serious. Vegetation does not mean vegetables.

“Vegetation is an assemblage of plant species and the ground cover they provide. It is a general term, without specific reference to particular taxa, life forms, structure, spatial extent, or any other specific botanical or geographic characteristics”

I saw smoke earlier today. If that is the same fire then it has been going on for some time. I saw a firetruck heading that direction and idiot people were driving in the firefighters way…so they had to honk.

Do some people not know the rules of the road when there is an emergency vehicle trying to get to the emergency?
