A pirate, complete with a hat sporting the skull and crossbones, an eye patch, sword, and a bottle of rum (the rum was fake.)
Trivia: Did you know that pirates wore an eye patch so one eye was always adjusted to see better in the dark? When they went below deck where there wasn’t much light, they would move the patch from one eye to the other in order to see better.
I also went as a hobo a couple of times.
Except when you went as a hobo a couple of times…. it was June…. so there’s that.

My Dad was a Doctor. One year he took me to his office and applied plaster casts to both my arm and leg and then cut them off in a way that they could be reapplied on Halloween. I also got crutches and lots of gauze bandages that we soaked with fake blood that we wrapped around various body parts. It was a unique costume.

Not sure about my ‘favorite,’ but my best costume was when I was about 12 and dressed up as the Pope. I wasn’t even Catholic at the time. I wore my Dad’s green and gold satin bathrobe; I made a miter out of white cardboard and a shepherd’s crook from a broomstick and a bent wire hanger. I made a point to ‘bless’ everyone that gave us candy. People loved it – I’m not sure it would fly now, though.

My mom handmade my brother and I ewok costumes when we were in 3rd/1st grade. No one knew what we were and kept asking if we were dogs or bears, but I still think it is so cool my mom worked that hard for us. I miss her a lot.
Me too! In about 1966 or 1967. I LOVED Casper back then!

My mom made me a fairy princess outfit. I would like to think I didn’t wave my wand when they gave me extra candy, but I probably did.

My friend and I, age 12, dressed up from the movie Oliver!
She was a blonde, so Oliver, Mark Lester.
I was a brunette, so Artful Dodger, Jack Wild.
We re-in-acted a part from the movie and spoke with English accents.
Every house we visited enjoyed our little play.

Rollerblader. I would go by myself and get about twice as much candy in same amount of time as all my friends who went together. You move so much faster and can basically run from house to house but not use that much energy at all, and costume is so easy.

In my early teens I made up my own costume. It was sort of a cross between Batman and Superman with “WW” on the front and a cape. I was Wonder Wop, Italy’s answer to Superman.
Before all of the snowflakes get upset, one set of my grandparents were born in Italy and I’m proud of my Italian heritage.
I Love it! 🙂
Both sides of my Family, grandparents, were from the Old Country too. Sicily,…with out papers ( WOP’s)

A Blueberry Muffin.
My son loved the blueberry muffins from Starbucks and asked to be one when he was 3. I made it by turning a cream colored lampshade upside down and attached light felt . I cut foam balls in half and wrapped blue felt around them and put them on . It was great.

I’m right there with you, Mimi! As a child I never could fathom why anyone would want to look UGLY on Halloween! “Princessing” was an easy thing because I simply wore one of my chiffon ballet-skirted costumes from the past Spring’s recitals. The tiara stayed the same from year to year because it was sparkles on gold gilt paint, and I loved it!

One of my favorites was one of those horrible plastic 80s costumes. It was Fozzie Bear (Muppet Babies era) and I’m pretty sure I was 4. I remember freezing on a neighbors porch when they asked me to tell a joke. With some prodding the story goes that I busted out a classic.

A Lawn Moo-er!!”
My Dad loved telling that story. 🙂 <3
