ALERT: Residents Of West, Central Contra Costa County Urged To Avoid Smoky Air, Stay Indoors

Health officials are urging residents of western and central (Concord, Walnut Creek, Clayton, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, etc.) Contra Costa County to stay indoors and limit outdoor activity to avoid exposure to poor air conditions caused by wildfires throughout the region.

Air quality measurements further were determined to be unhealthy and those conditions may migrate to other parts of the county if the wind shifts.

Contra Costa Health Services has said that wearing a mask is not an effective alternative for staying indoors. People should keep their doors and windows closed, and use an air filter if possible.

Symptoms of exposure to smoky air can include coughing, scratchy throat, headaches and irritation to the eyes, nose or throat.

People with respiratory problems like asthma, lung disease or heart disease should call 911 if they experience difficulty breathing, chest pain or chest tightness.

Information on the health impacts of wildfire smoke is available on the county’s website at https://cchealth.org/wildfire-smoke/.

I’ve been vigilant on closing up my home, but to no avail. Interior smells as if I rolled the Weber in.
