Evacuations caused by a 50-acre wildfire in southern Martinez Sunday afternoon were lifted early Sunday evening, according to firefighters with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The two-alarm blaze prompted immediate evacuation orders for a residential area in the vicinity of Alhambra Avenue near Forest Way, about a mile south of state Highway 4, firefighters said.

The evacuation area was from Alhambra Avenue stretching east to Morello Avenue, south to Macalvey and Sunnybrae Drives and north to Vine Hill Way.

The fire was reported about 4 p.m., and extinguished a few hours later.

Authorities say air quality may be poor as a result of this fire, and others burning in the bay area. Residents are advised to take reasonable precautions, such as closing doors and windows to prevent smoke from getting inside.

It’s now as Calm as could be outside. I was at the Lafayette / Camino Ct fire area and those winds WERE HIGHLY UNUSUAL.

I wound up sealing my door (with tape) and wall A/C unit (tape and a trash bag) due to this horrific air quality.

Recommend others do the same.

I listen to KCBS all morning for up dates, and when I went in my car around 1:30 I had KGO radio on and was surprised to hear Brett Burchardt and Pat Thurston and later John Rothmann was on, other than Brett, Pat and John are talk show host, but they did a good job of relaying what was going on and taking calls from all over the Bay Area. However, all day long I checked with Claycord, and it was very helpful. I live off Willow Pass and when I returned from shopping downtown Concord, I saw a lot of smoke coming over the hills, looked like it was from Pittsburgh or Antioch. Someone called into John show and he thought it was the Martinez fire, but the callers said no, John had no information on it, although later he did. My point is there is nothing like a local source to keep you informed of what is going on in your community. So I agree with the comment here, thank you for the continuous and accurate updates.
