The Water Cooler – The NBA And China

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Do you think the NBA should take a stand against China and stand up for free speech, or do you think they’re (management, players, etc.) holding back due to financial reasons?

What do you think Trump would say?

You mean tweet 🙂

The NBA needs to stick to basketball. People who make everything a political issue (whether they’re celebrities or not) are beyond annoying. Get a life. 12 step your addiction to politics, and enjoy recovery with your sponsor. I have no idea how those programs work, but I hear they’re effective.

I agree with your comments. I also think old Blabbermouth should worry about his own demise.

Typical hypocrites. When it costs them nothing they are all mouth. I like how Kerr is playing dumb as if he doesn’t know what is happening in China. Ah China, where is China? Is that in the USA? Never heard of it.

Yeah, this King of the White Savior SJWs, who knows ALL about immigration, asylum, transgender, guns, who attacks Trump at the drop of a hat and is a NONSTOP stream of retweets of the NYT and CNN, now we’re to believe he knows NOTHING about China’s long history of human rights abuses and mass genocide. Oh, but he emailed his brother-in-law who’s a Chinese history professor…what a shame no one has invented some type of device we could carry around in our pocket, and this device could not only be some kind of communication device, but would also allow the user access to vast amounts of information. Oh well, some day I guess.

Hippocrates was a Greek physician who lived around 400BC. Did he have some opions about leagues?

Jojo, what the hell is an “opion”?

And are you suggesting that Hippocrates the Greek physician is found somewhere in the etymology of the word hypocrite? Stay out of the deep end – you’re drowning. Or is that “drownding” to you?

One of the previous posts (now lost) had mentioned Hippocrates so maybe my response didn’t make much sense. Nice of you to insult me anyway. I guess you are not much for WWJD. Keep it up and that orange guy will certainly win thanks to your efforts. Love.

Rollo, look for the post from Darwin below.

Rollo,
It’s from that episode of the Andy Griffith Show where Sheriff Taylor thinks his kid is stoned….. “What’s Opi on?”

the sad truth that communist socialist are running this country
why do you think no Chinese americans who have a huge LGB and capitalist population here have no problems with illegals and any other problems including trump

we are already under china rule they are just letting us bring it on our selves
to be ruled seems to be working well ..extremely well …
after hing kong we are next to serve under them …

gratz democrats you won ….

communism wins every time you sacrifice freedom

Haha, NBA and disgusting virtue signalers like Kerr, Popovich, Curry, etc are ALL OVER IT when it comes to mentally ill men saying they’re “women” who want to use the girls bathroom in North Carolina, they were all in a lather and giddy when they yanked the ASG from Charlotte…but when it comes to China, organ harvesting, throwing Muslims into REAL concentration camps, brutal oppression, IP theft, being by far the world’s largest polluter, these hypocritical cowards don’t have a word to say.

No one is saying NBA needs to cut all ties to China, but there should be ZERO hesitation for the NBA to say they support the people of Hong Kong, and if thin-skinned China can’t handle that and boots out the NBA, then so be it, I’m sure their tens of millions of basketball-crazy citizens will be just thrilled to only have access to the third-rate Chinese league.

I guess someone just needs to tell these cowards that the Chinese don’t have transgender bathrooms and THEN they’ll have something to say.

Well said

Said it all

Pete V you nailed it. Well said!

I was trying to think of a profound comment. I realized, in this case I really don’t care.

I’m disappointed in the players and the league for not standing up for Hong Kong. I understand why they are doing it, especially Kerr and the Warriors players. I don’t think Kerr would care whether there was backlash against him but he doesn’t want to be responsible for his players losing out on their sponsorship. Klay would stand to lose his 10 year $80M deal with Anta (A Chinese company). How many of you would be willing to jeopardize your livelihood and someone else’s? Especially if the issue doesn’t directly impact you. Kerr is the leader and head coach of GSW, if he stood up and supported Hong Kong, the players would definitely feel betrayed by him.

The bigger issue is all the other American Corporations that are bowing to China. Apple, Google, Blizzard, the NBA, Disney, Coach, Nike, Viacom, and countless others. There needs to be a backlash against all these companies and not just the NBA.

A predominantly minority league won’t stand up against oppression unless its in their best interest (Hippocrates). Wow! I wish I could say I was surprised. NBA players are weak. What a joke. They pretend to be social justice warriors and long as it does not affect them financially. All athletes should shut their mouths and play the child’s game.

There were professional leagues in 400BC? Learn something every day.

Were discussing current events

Prefer sports groups and players stick to their task at hand and not make a public display of their political desires, leanings, proclivities, or, for that matter, any of the social justice issues, politically correct controversies, etc. Certainly, we know they have opinions, but they aren’t germane to their profession and only seem to cause problems and controversy when expressed publicly. Wish Hollywood types would observe the same kind of self control. Our society was a great deal more civil when people kept these opinions politely to themselves. We have a secret ballot for a reason and we can express our opinions by voting out of office people with whom we disagree.

This reminds Me of the Lady who replied to one of My posts on Claycord, She wrote: ” Just because You have an opinion, and a place to express it does not mean that You should!”

R It’s still a free country. You are free to not have an opinion, and you are also free to not express it, even if you do. God bless America!

They follow the money, just a bunch of hypocrites. That’s why I stopped watching them and the NFL.

The NBA and many of the players and coaches are acting in a reprehensible manner. I’m especially disgusted with Steve Kerr (but not surprised); he’s a great basketball coach, but needs to understand the geopolitics of the world and stand up for the country that has allowed him to act like an idiot.

Basketball is a GAME and I enjoy watching it. Unfortunately, many of those involved in my favorite SPORT of auto racing (especially Formula 1) are acting in a similar manner.

China is our biggest enemy and a threat to world domination and freedom and must be dealt with appropriately.

Formula One Group is owned by Liberty Media. You have to expect political commentary from Liberty

NBA doesn’t give two xxits about human rights violations and the concentration camps for the Uigirts in China. They care about money money money money money and money.

that’s right!! All they care about are the sneaker, T-shirt and other endorsements they get from companies that make all their garbage in China.

Steve Kerr is a disgrace to this country, he is a sell out for the chinese $$$$. Shame Shame on him.

You clearly didn’t actually hear or read what Steve Kerr said when asked any of the questions he was asked.

anyone can misinterpret the true meaning of sharing one’s thoughts. As far as I recall Steve played for the Chicago Bulls and since then has been an outstanding and moral person. Do not let your displaced anger get the best of you Sir.

Yes I did hear what he said. Him and Charles Barkley are selling out for the Chinese dollar.

If Steve Kerr was such a moral person, why is he not speaking out about the travesties of china. I know why $$$$$$

They should not have gone to China, but they did, so let them play, keep politics out of sports, I know its only wishful thinking but who really gives a rats ass what a athlete or actor says or thinks

Public figures, like athletes and actors, have substantial influence and the ability to sway public opinion. In so doing, they bring pressure to bear on those who can intercede in foreign affairs to effect the outcome. That is why one should give a rats ass. It is why it is better if they keep their opinions to themselves, especially when they know nothing about the issues.

Of course they should speak out!! There are people risking their lives demonstrating to obtain the basic freedoms we (and the NBA players, coaches, staff, etc) enjoy. To stand back and say “well..we don’t know enough about their culture to comment” is cowardly and a bunch of bullsh*t. What is there to know other than people and desperately stuggling for freedom. For them to hide behind an ignorance of the issues is nonsense and shows they are spineless cowards.

I can understand your sentiments but not when it comes to translation and interpretation into another culture. Very easy to misunderstand the true meanings as relating to oneself.

Looks like its college ball again for me this year.

Better games, anyway.

Reality is that freedom of speech doesn’t mean you can do it without financial consequence. Ask Colin Kaepernick about it. I think it’s funny that the NBA who seemed to support Kaepernick are now keeping their mouths shut when it will effect their wallets. If China cancels the NBA contract, it will cost every player about 10% over the next 5 years.
