PG&E’s website has gone down Tuesday morning due to what the utility said was a “high volume of traffic” from people looking up information related to a possible public safety power shutoff that could affect an estimated 600,000 customers.
With dry and windy weather forecast in PG&E’s service area later this week, the utility is warning more than 250,000 customers in the Bay Area and about 350,000 elsewhere in Northern and Central California about possible preemptive shutoffs to prevent the sparking of a wildfire.
As of shortly before 11 a.m., PG&E’s website for information about the possible shutoffs was not accessible.
The utility wrote on Twitter to apologize for the website problems.
“We are currently experiencing high volume of traffic to our website & understand your frustration w/ the delay of accessing #PSPS related web pages,” PG&E wrote. “We apologize for the convenience and thank you for
your patience as our team is working as quickly as possible to restore access.”
If PG&E decides to implement a power shutoff, it is expected to happen early Wednesday morning.
An they’ve had how many MONTHS to plan for this ? ? ? ?
Speaks Volumes as to vast lack of ability in management to plan then execute.
I wouldn’t say there’s a vast lack of ability, but maybe half vast.
Without a doubt,
California needs a company far better than PG&E to manage its utilities.
Remove the corrupt politicians in Sacramento and vote in people who will work of the People, not themselves.
Not surprised at all. Their infrastructure is failing all over the State why should we expect them to be able to keep a website up and running.
I would be surprised if there’s no fires, not because of PG&E.
NEXRAD is showing frequencies ramping up higher than usual for California. And NO, contrary to what meteorologists try to tell you, these are not birds or insects SMH

Doesn’t surprise me because we’re all freaking out!!
PG&E should be seized and broken up into local utilities. What you have is a bunch of bloated egos who think they can run a big company and can’t. Besides local utilities could focus better on their own problems. It would also create more jobs since when you breakup big companies you need to staff up the resulting smaller ones. It’s an obvious overdue solution.
Yeah, we could have a Calipocalypse and Trump will send in the troops. I hear they’ve been training for this.
I just tried to call PG&E to report a problem and they are not really taking calls unless you have a tree down. They are so jacked into the wind and fire BS that they really can’t even listen to you. Their message sounds like the blitzkrieg is going on.
There are 7 million people in the Bay Area. PG&E is not Amazon.
If you have to call PR&E now, you haven’t been paying attention.
If the outage happens look at the bright side:
The weather forecast highs is only going to be 70-80 degrees in our area rather than the norm 90-100 degrees
The outage will also bring our families, neighbors and communities together.
PG&E is one of the only companies that is
getting praise for not providing the service
that we are paying them for each month.
If they can’t maintain their infrastructure they
should be replaced by people that can.
California is a model of massive success. High wages driving increasing housing cost – so many people that the infrastructure can’t keep up. A massive economy that is well diversified.
HaHaHaHaHa someone is drinking the kool aid by the gallons.
Or another way to look at it is, housing prices are way up because there is a housing shortage due to regulations which create an artificial shortage because no one is building. Wages are up but not enough to pay for increased cost of housing and basic necessities like fuel and food.
California a regular workers paradise… for those who are upper and upper middle class.. oh and for Rob.
Wow, who could’ve guessed there would be a lot of traffic to the website when a vague warning of an outage, up to five days long, goes out? I mean, what a surprise!
