Monday, September 30, 2019, will be a red-letter day for mail carrier Joe Bologna. After 38 years at the Walnut Creek Post Office, five years on his current route, Bologna will hang up his satchel after he faithfully completes his appointed rounds.
He won’t leave without a party though. His friends, coworkers and family plan to gather at the Walnut Creek Post Office, 2070 N. Broadway in Walnut Creek on Tuesday, October 1 to give him a proper send-off.
Bologna is a Million Mile driver, which means he as driven a million miles without even a fender-bender after logging more than a million miles delivering the mail. He has driven the equivalent of 40 times around the globe, all without leaving the city limits.
One of his fondest memories is being able to invite 25 of his customers to his daughter’s wedding. He plans to continue enjoying his family, spend more time reading and attending sports outings.
Bologna served in the US Air Force from 1972-1977, attaining rank of sergeant, and was stationed in England and Germany. With his military service, he has a total of 43 years of federal service.

He also deserves a medal for working in that HOT not air conditioned P.O downtown. I hope they do a remodel to that terrible mess in his honor.
