Veranda Movie Theater On Diamond Blvd. In Concord To Convert Bar Into Concession Stand

TheĀ Veranda LUXE Cinema & IMAX, located in the Veranda Shopping Center on Diamond Blvd. in Concord, will be making some changes in the near future.

According to sources with the City of Concord, the theater plans to convert their bar into a traditional concession stand, with popcorn, candy, sodas and other items.

Currently, if you want any concession items at the theater, you have to order them from your seat while watching a movie.

It’s unknown if you will still be able to order from your seat once the concession stand opens.

The construction is expected to cost around $50,000.

That’s good news. I found it very frustrating and disruptive to have staff coming through delivering food during the movie. I’ll visit again once construction is complete.

Hahahahhahahahahhaaaaaa
When they opened, I thought that was the dumbest thing ever.
$50k Hahahhahahahaaaaaa

So no more wine?

Too many people complained. It would be frustrating and disruptive to other movie goers. It’s a movie theater, not a restaurant.

As long as I can still order from my seat. SO convenient!

Better off this way. No one was going there to use it explicitly as a bar – there are other options in the Veranda.

Movie patrons were stuck ordering from their seat, which is distracting and honestly – not as good service-wise.

You could order at the bar, but it took forever because the bartenders were trying to play two rolls.

Bad execution. This is a much better plan.

Who were they rolling? The customers? (couldn’t resist)

Much higher profit margin on sodas and popcorn than alcohol. 108RS

For $50,000, do you suppose their contractor would run outside with a can of spray paint and give us more than the 2 (TWO) handicap parking spaces located in front of Barnes and Noble?!?!?!?

I refused to order a soft drink from my seat, so I went to the lobby to get one. Stood in line at this bar for a Coke, and the bartender filled a glass to the top with ice and shot in about 3 long slurps of Coke. So, I think I paid something like $5 for a glass of ice. I could’ve stayed and complained and miss even more of my movie.

We haven’t ever gone back.

You ā€œrefusedā€ to order from your seat??? Hmmmm ok… well …. servers and bartenders are suppose to fill glasses to the top with ice before filling with beverages.

Moral of the story:

Order from your seat!

Should have said no ice. Anyone who fills a drink does this madness. I have long been ordering all of my drinks with NO ICE.

I’ve only been there once, but I found it distracting and a little embarrassing frankly, to have a “waiter” standing there speaking at a normal volume, while others are trying to watch the movie. I felt like I needed to apologize to those around me for ordering food during the movie.

Yep. That sounds quite impractical and frankly DUMB!

Once it’s done I will use their facility again. So stupid waiting 30 minutes for a Coke and having to remind them 3 times that I still didn’t have my items. The whole concept for simple items doesn’t work.

They also need to install automatically operated doors for those in wheelchairs, I was there the other day and watched abguybtrybtinpush his way out before I went over to hold the door for him. They have not had theater food service in IMAX for a while now.

That really seems like it was a silly idea in the first place. We have theaters that sell beer at the regular snack bar, and it works pretty well. Patrons do have to wear a wristband, though.

Pretty sure they are cutting the bar in half l an currently an as always you can order concessions at the bar as well as your seat in the theater. This construction probably going to help with movement of the IMAX line since there is no service inside IMAX that is cause it is too big an there not enough servers or runners to handle a theater that size full 300 including 9 other theaters

We went 2-3x to see huge movie premiers like Black Panther & Avengers etc. However one time I ordered food and 1.5 hrs later it arrived. A busy day lack of staff /managers handling or overseeing the food orders. Then another time the couple next to us ordered slurpis & candy but left immediately afterwards. The server was confused and gave me the bill by accident ..However they left immediately without paying, too busy to notice. This system was doomed from the start, good idea but terrible execution. Also its very distracting to have the servers going back n forth during the movie. I will never be back. =(

Interesting. Everytime we’ve gone there, they’ve required payment at the time of the order.

We went in about 4 times and never once got everything we ordered. Twice we got charged for things and waited for over 20 minutes for a manager that never came. If they had their act together it would of been great! No thanks

I went once. Very distracting and takes way too long. I like ordering my popcorn from someone I can watch put abnormally large amounts of butter on it! LOL. The popcorn we got from the Veranda theater was dry as a bone.
I’ll go back once they finish the concession stand.

Itā€™s about time. I went it first opened and it took 45 mins to get my items and then I never got my refills. And yes it is so annoying having the servers running around all during the movie.

I saw one of the bartenders taking shots with a guest in front of a pcked bar.

This isnā€™t Coyote Ugly.

Apparently, this style of service is big in SoCal, how they werenā€™t capable of replicating the same success up here is beyond me.

Yay. More family friendly. That works! I liked being served in my seat too though. Maybe they can still do that but just until the movie starts then shut it down.

First experienced ordering from our seats at a theater in Iowa of all places at least five years ago..and it was a brewery with a cinema attached. Great service…super fun. We wished for the same thing locally. Found it at the Vine in Livermore…a little less techie, but still enjoyable. We were really excited about the IMAX here. We took one of the grandkids and it was super easy to order. Got everything pretty fast and the order was correct. Grandson loved the experience. Sorry they couldnā€™t make it work.

Ordering from your seat is the main reason I don’t go to this cinema. I’ve been there twice now, and it’s annoying to have people coming and going during the beginning of a movie. The last time I did this, I ordered a popcorn and soda 20 minutes before the movie began. I made the mistake of paying cash. The person that took my order continued to get orders from other patrons, who paid by debit or credit. They got their items first and mine didn’t arrive until 10 minutes into the movie. My change didn’t arrive until another 10 minutes after that. It’s just a flawed system.

I always thought it a lame that they didn’t have a concession upon entering, although to be fair, you *can* order from the bar. It just takes forever and they act like you’re making the strangest of requests– You want popcorn before entering the theater??

I don’t know if they still do this, but their soda and popcorn were unlimited refills, but getting a refill from your seat, proved elusive.

Anyway, if they install a concession and you can get your own drinks and popcorn, I’d definitely think about visiting this theater more often.

Iā€™ve been here at least a dozen times. Ordering from your seat is usually great and is way better than leaving during a movie to get something. The seats are so high above the ones in front of you that you donā€™t notice the servers at all, unless you are looking for them.
