Contra Costa County announced its Census 2020 Outreach and Assistance Grants are available through a Request for Proposals (RFP).
The grant opportunity is available to tax-exempt organizations, schools, and public agencies to help ensure that every person in Contra Costa County is counted.
The County seeks to fund grantees that are committed to ensuring a complete count of County residents with an emphasis on Hard to Count populations. Grant amounts in phase one of the RFP released today will range between $2,000 to $20,000 to support Census outreach and education in Contra Costa County.
The grant funding was approved by the Board of Supervisors based on the recommendation of the County’s Census 2020 Complete Count Steering Committee to invest in and support Census 2020 outreach and education efforts. The Complete Count Steering Committee was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to help ensure a fair and complete 2020 Census count.
“Contra Costa County is proud to support organizations that will mobilize our communities to ensure a complete count of all residents,” said Board Chair, Supervisor John Gioia. “A fair and accurate count is important to ensure that Contra Costa County gets its fair share of federal funding for vital services and infrastructure.”
Census data collected every 10 years is the source of important information for communities, businesses, and governments. Many households will begin receiving communications from the U.S. Census Bureau in March, 2020. This Census count determines how many representatives each state has in Congress and how over $675 billion in federal funds are distributed to tribal, state and local governments each year to support education, infrastructure, and social services that are vital to our communities.
A George Washington University study estimates that for every person not counted, California and its local governments lose an estimated $2,000 a year per individual. Forty-two percent of Contra Costa County’s funding comes from federal and state resources.
“We cannot underestimate the importance of guaranteeing an accurate Census 2020 count. It is critical that we work together to educate, motivate and activate all Contra Costa County residents, particularly those who may not be aware of the Census, or who may be reluctant to respond,” said Supervisor Diane Burgis, District 3, and Chair of the County’s Census 2020 Complete Count Steering Committee.
All applicants are encouraged to attend the Bidders Conference on September 11, 2019 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Paramount Conference Room, 777 Arnold Drive in Martinez.
Wow so the county wants more fed money by importing bums and illegals so after the sensus let’s bet that politicians will then implement policy to rid the bums and illegals to retain their positions
De slackers /but really Pelosi speech should be grand
Sensus has been hijacked as a democrat funding scheme through fed
So they are boosting count for free money to use for campaigns
So wonder how happy dems would be if thousands abstained from sensus
Like all the people they are not representing like other partie followers and middle class and the so called evil 1% who actually work for a living
instead of dem politicians who are a 1%….. living off of people and fed schemes and offering favors for campaign contributions
Change demifornia
abstaining for change
Vote no on sensus scam of importing bums and illegals to bump the numbers
Will never happen but to see the dem heads roll over botched effort would be hilarious
Dem polIticans Using people for politIcal gain
The voters obviously agree to use bums and illegals since they have voted for everything dem that favors the dem voter so they turn the blind eye to their own demise and abuse of bums and illegals for their own gain
again hilarious people are oblivious
Basically the county wants its fair share period. If the county is already dependent on 42% income from state and federal funds. What is wrong with an accurate as possible count. Most of the time I find people, yes legal citizens from other states taking up residence as visiting relatives on extended stays because the rest of the nation is either too cold, too stormy, or whatever. They use up tons of resources. Yes legal citizens and residents.
And by the way the people of contra costa supports themselves beyond their fair share and receives less than its fair share in return.
I am a contra costa born and raised I am 49years old and have never seen any census count. I live and have lived here forever. Where is the census?
The last full census I completed was in 1980. 3 months later they came around and were pestering me to do a supplemental census, I ran them off and have not done one since. I did fill in ‘Two adults live here” in 2010. A few days later some .gov tick was beating on my door wanting more information, ran him off also. This time we will fill out ZERO. The local cities and county piss off most of the money they suck out of the Feds ( read Taxpayers ) so they can do without.
