Major BART Track Work In Contra Costa County To Require Weekend Shutdown And Eastbound Lane Closures On Hwy.24

The second of six scheduled weekend track shutdowns between the Orinda and Walnut Creek stations will happen this weekend to allow for major track replacement work on BART’s busiest line.

Free buses provided by County Connection and AC Transit will replace trains between the Orinda, Lafayette, and Walnut Creek stations while work crews replace the track.

BART riders can expect delays of 40 minutes or more on track shutdown weekends.

Lane closures on eastbound highway 24

BART and Caltrans are partnering to limit impacts for drivers because of this critical system rebuilding work. The two left lanes on eastbound highway 24 near the Lafayette Station and Oak Hill Road will be closed for the holiday weekend while the track work takes place.  The lanes will be closed starting at 11 p.m. on Friday.

BART explored multiple alternatives but determined that closing two lanes of the highway was the only safe way to position the 265-ton crane that’s needed to perform the heavy lifting tasks required for this critical rebuilding work.

The space will also be used for construction materials and other heavy equipment including a conveyor belt.

Of Course. A three day weekend and caltrans wants to shut a major highway down.

Makes as much sense as everything else these people do.

YOU ARE FIRED!!!!!

you always have to screw up the holiday plan and now you gonna do the work on labor day weekend!!!! People got to add more time to get ready to where they wanna go to.

Thanks BART and Caltrans

Out of all times they could’ve done this they had to do it during Labor Day weekend!?!?!? So dumb and stupid making everything more dangerous because of this

y’all complain when they do and complain when they don’t.

No matter when or where, you’d find something to complain about…..

It seems to me that using a 3-day holiday is the best time to do this task. Traffic should be the lightest of the year due to vacationers being out of town on the last says of summer. That said, God help those trying to get home on the Interstates on Monday. By the second week of September we will be seeing the worst traffic around town than ever before.
