CA Gas Prices Remain Second Highest In The Nation – National Average Down

At $2.59, the national gas price average is poised to be potentially the cheapest Labor Day weekend average in three years.

Today’s average is already nearly a quarter cheaper than during last year’s holiday ($2.83) and four cents cheaper than 2017’s Labor Day ($2.63).

“For Americans who bookend summer with road trips, they will find gas prices this coming weekend that are cheaper than this past Memorial Day and last year’s Labor Day holiday,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “At the start of the week, two-thirds of all states have gas price averages that are nearly a quarter cheaper than last year.”

While some states may see gas prices increase by a few pennies ahead of the holiday weekend, which isn’t atypical, any jumps will be short-term.

The average price for a gallon of gas in California is almost a dollar more than the national average.

In South Florida earlier this month and it cost me $42 to fill up a Chevy Tahoe… Oh California

Gas prices in California, inflicted on it’s own people by it’s own people.

Reason number 294 for why you shouldn’t live here.

Amen Noj. One of a thousand reasons I left.
I was able to leave 18 months ago. Could not pack fast enough.

@Gone. Just curious as to what state you chose to call home.

Agree. Left 2 years ago and when I do return it cost a small fortune fill my tank to get back home.

Simply because Californians cannot read a ballot measure to save their lives.

Yet another one of the million reasons to leave CA…

was in new orleans 4 weeks ago $2.049 a gal for reg unleaded

opps…. .02; not .04

Add some more because of the roads and climate change.

Maintaining a socialist nanny state is expensive.

Welcome to California.

Notice that the first nine are all west states. ID, UT, AZ are the eastern border. The way NY taxes they could just as well be in the west with WA, OR, CA

Gas prices were a lot lower in Texas. Not enough for me to move back. Especially now with the heat and humidity of summer and hurricanes coming.

Hopefully guv Newsom will go the way of Gray Davis over the coming gas tax increase!

The special taxes, environmental costs and special formulation requirements explain some of the extra cost but nobody can explain the “Mystery Gasoline surcharge” that boosts us near the top. Probably just a simple case of price gouging because people need their cars and are willing to pay the cost. If everyone in the State ditched their cars for 1 day as a form of protest, I’ll bet the “Mystery surcharge” would vanish.

There is no “mystery surcharge”, and ditching our cars for one day won’t do a thing. As others have said, taxes, the special CA blend are factors. Another big factor is the cost here- higher wages, more expensive land, having to meet more regulations- all of that gets factored into our prices here. The oil companies make only a few cents per gallon of gas sold (no, I don’t work for an oil company). Gas stations most profitable product is the 44 oz. sodas they sell inside their market. Per gallon, they make much more there than they do at the pump.

Pretty sure there is in fact what lawmakers and others are referring to as ” a mystery surcharge” After all the legitimate taxes and charges are added up there is still a discrepancy in the amount being charged for fuel in this State. Google it!

Gosh if only we manufactured gasoline nearby I’m sure that would help.

If you live in California, you voted for all these taxes (to make the roads better, after we siphon off the money for other reasons).

Keep voting to tax yourself, special gas, special cars, special registration, and so on.

Stop whining and repeal the taxes!

I paid $2.95 in Alaska today. Ten years ago it was almost $5 a gal in AK.

Whoa, Holy Mackerel! That sounds too good to be true. What happened?

8 more years!

I paid $4.35 for REGULAR while I was in Carlsbad last week! What a rip-off!! Came home to $3.23, still bad, but better than SoCal!!

But Kamala was going to hold hearings regarding price gouging…..

Costco in Concord still $3.099.

And, so was Gavin. It worked so well for Kamala, Gavin promised to do the same right after he took office.

Just completed a 9,081 mile road trip from Cali to Florida up to NY and Boston then home. Price of gas in Cali the most expensive of any state we we’re in. Funny thing is all the roads were in better condition than ours. It makes me wonder where the boys in Sacramento are spending our gas tax dollars? Certainly not on our roads and infrastructure based on their conditions. I will admit some roads we traveled on were toll roads so that might have been why they were in good condition. But even states that didn’t have tolls roads the highways were in better condition than here. Me thinks something ain’t right in river city and the tax payers are getting ripped off!
