Dollar Tree is expected to move into the old Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) building at 2030 Monument Blvd. (at Oak Grove Rd.) in Concord.
Half of the old OSH building was taken over by Smart FoodService (formerly Cash & Carry). The other half of the building that will soon be occupied by Dollar Tree is closer to Oak Grove Rd.
Any word what’s going to happen with the Clayton Valley OSH location?
What’s being done with the old Safeway building in that area? I’d like to see another hardware store, Ace Hardware would be nice.
Dawg,
mike favar & Mimi (original) both posted, Cardenas coming to the old Safeway,…I also remember it posted on Claycord a while back. There is one in Pittsburg and my sister likes the store.
Cardenas Market just opened today…
There is an attempt to resurrect OSH https://www.hbsdealer.com/hardware-stores/the-return-of-orchard-supply-hardware/
I don’t quite understand. Didn’t Smart Foodservice take the whole OSH space? I must admit, I’ve only been in there once and didn’t look to see if it was the same size as the old Orchard. Is there another entrance between the Smart front doors and the old OSH outdoor garden center space?
I saw on claycord a few months back that a supermarket called Cardenas was going in at the old Safeway spot.
Just what Concord needs another junk store
Yep! That’s already a depressed area. Keeping adding junk stores! That will encourage growth! I guess it’s what the locals want and will support…..
Why pay more for your junk? I bought Oregon Blueberries, fresh, 6 oz. in clamshell container for 99 cents at the 99 Cent Store, recently. They were excellent. Got four small designer lettuces in a clamshell container for 99 cents. Can’t beat the price and the quality is exceptional. Can’t speak for the Dollar Store.
It’s still true Gittyup, yet more and more things at the 99 Cent Store cost $1.99, $2.99, $3.99, etc., etc.. I don’t like it.
At least when the shoplifters hit, they won’t be targeting high end items.
@Don and @Sign From Above
Concord doesn’t decide which businesses come in (yes, they have to approve). Business owners decide where their particular business would do well- hence no 99 Cent stores in Broadway Plaza in WC, and no Nordstroms along Monument. It is simple supply and demand. For the most part, we get what we deserve, which is whatever the market will bear.
I miss the OSH train calendars.
There’s been work going on at the old Safeway location for quite a while now – I’ve been wondering what’s going in there. If Cardenas is decent and not overrun with lower quality goods I’d be glad to see a market back in that location. The Food Maxx down the street freaks me out! I like the Safeway at Treat & Bancroft but hate their parking!
Have you tried the new Safeway at Oak Grove and Ygnacio? Parking is a little better than the Bancroft store, and the store has absolutely everthing under the sun. Plus, it is brand spanking new and so clean and fresh. The employees even seem happier.
Hi, Gittyup, I’ve been in that Ygnacio/Oak Grove store only once. And you’re right, they probably do have everything under the sun, but it’s out of my way AND I actually don’t like that it’s so gigantic! Same reason I do not go to the Safeway at Sun Valley Mall. Too big – aisles are too long, makes me a little claustrophobic that I can’t leave an aisle without walking almost from the back to the front of the store! I know, I’m weird,
Man, I really ticked off. Concord gets yet another dollar store/tree and we here in WC can’t even get one. Just not fair.
Take ours!!
It will be interesting how well they do in the future with all of the tariffs on goods from China. That’s all they stock!!
I can’t speak for the Dollar Store, but the 99Cent Store in TJ Maxx shopping center on Clayton Rd. has fresh California grown produce at bargain basement prices.
Granted the 99 Cent Store doesn’t have the fancy shelving and the overhead sprayers that go off periodically, and the produce is generally crowded and loosely stacked in bins, or, even in cardboard boxes. It isn’t decoratively displayed. It’s just cheaper.
That store is still “boarded” up as of yesterday. No sign of anything opening up anytime soon.
Hard to eat healthy and organic with these cheap food stores should be a Costco!
All of those stores, 99 cent, Dollar Tree, Dollar Store, they’re all dumps.
If you want to pay for the building and fancy display racks, that’s your business. I’ll take a 10 oz. clamshell package of Fancy Grape Tomatoes for .99 cents. $3.00, $4.00 bucks elsewhere.
Take your nasty pride away and shop there. You will save your money and buy quality goods. You have to use your imagination and be smart when you buy stuff.
A dollar tree??? really??? Snob said it best.
I so enjoy going to the Dollar Tree store to pay .50 cents for a Hallmark card…yes, you can go directly to Hallmark store in Pleasant Hill and pay full price, but thank you I would rather pay .50 per card…no one will know the difference……can’t wait for Dollar Tree to come…..
My previous post must’ve got lost somewhere. I was wondering, with the new Dollar Tree, will the locations by Kohl’s and in Park n Shop remain open?
