The Mt. Diablo Unified School District Board of Education has announced it has approved the appointment of Dr. Robert A. Martinez as the district’s new Superintendent.

Dr. Martinez currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD).

His appointment was approved unanimously; he is expected to start his new position August 19, 2019.

“Thank you for placing your trust in me, a man with humble beginnings, and to allow me to be a part of a district that is always focused on students first,” said Martinez after the unanimous vote for his appointment. “This work is about the heart….it’s about the passion – it’s about being called to service.”

“It’s a very exciting time to be part of Mt. Diablo Unified,” he added.

Dr. Martinez acknowledged the effective leadership of the previous superintendent, Dr. Nellie Meyer, who is now the superintendent for Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District.

“The previous superintendent did great things, the community is doing great things, and no one person can do it better,” said Martinez.  “But together we will grow, together we will lead, and we will lead with resilience so that every part of our community feels a part of what’s going to happen next.”
