Convenience store operator 7-Eleven, Inc. will pay a $1.525 million settlement for failing to properly train employees in the handling of hazardous material in California stores, Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni announced Friday.

The company, which is an operator or franchiser of more than 1,700 stores in California, 25 of which are located in Monterey County, violated state laws requiring training of store personnel in the handling hazardous material.

Several counties, including Monterey, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, San Francisco, San Joaquin, Solano, Ventura and Yolo were involved in the prosecution of the case.

Prosecutors said 7-Eleven stores use carbon dioxide for their carbonated fountain beverage systems, and the company submitted certified reports for California stores that did not accurately and completely disclose employee training information as required by state laws.

Carbon dioxide, a colorless, odorless and non-flammable gas is safe if handled properly, but the gas can cause serious health effects or even death if handled improperly, prosecutors said.

The gas is widely used by fast food and convenience stores.

A settlement in the case was reached after 7-Eleven revised practices to ensure all employees had proper training.

The $1.525 million monetary settlement was comprised by $948,000 in civil penalties, $252,000 for supplemental environmental projects promoting training for California environmental agencies and prosecutors and $325,000 for reimbursement for investigative and enforcement costs.

Costs are just passed on to the consumer!!!

You have got to be ******* kidding me.

Whatever the fine, it’s always passed on to the consumer.

What foolishness.

It’s not that abiding laws should ever be ignored. Even many of the costly and useless laws overwhelming businesses.

But fines are only costly to those who buy stuff at 7 11.

Whatever happened to just making them comply. It would make sense to comply or get shut down until they do.

They probably didn’t train them because they aren’t white employees. They don’t train non whites because they are beneath whites. They want non whites to get hurt and die when something is dangerous. Yes, the liberal way of thinking.

Only in California

Remember, exhaling could cause serious side effects or even death.

Great Now they are going to Raise their Prices on your Snacks and Beverages WTF

Great Now they are going to Raise their Prices on your Snacks and Beverages to cover their Fine

For the record: people have died due to incorrectly installed, maintained and/or operated CO2 systems in food establishments. You may want to think twice about poo-pooing this if you ever have or will use a basement restroom in a restaurant… cause that’s where leaked CO2 will collect. The tanks tend to be placed in the basement, and the gas sinks anyway, displacing oxygen. You will pass out and die as you sit on the toilet… but hey, yeah… liberals gone wild. Good times.

Aaaaannnd NOTHING for the employees

Ah yes, the fleecing of another deep pocket.
An those running this state are totally mystified, as companies avoid or leave CA.

Those moving out are making room for those wanting to move in.

Get a carbon dioxide detector for $30, plug it in, end of problem. Another California ripoff that will go into Gavin’s slush fund.

Aren’t you thinking of a carbon monoxide detector? Not the same thing at all.

Who gets the $948,000? Same with all the PG&E fines where does the money go? Never back to the tax payers.
