Walnut Creek City Council To Discuss Plans For North Downtown Area

The final draft of a plan to guide future development of new homes, offices, community and retail space in Walnut Creek’s north downtown area will be presented to and discussed by the City Council at its regular meeting tonight.

The 30-year plan for the 191-acre north downtown area, adjacent to the Walnut Creek BART station, was born in 2014 when the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Contra Costa Transportation Authority awarded
the city a $657,000 grant to prepare a plan to guide redevelopment of the area.

The vision statement wants the area to be better integrated with the rest of downtown, as well as with the BART station, Civic Park, the Iron Horse Trail, surrounding neighborhoods and the region, and to keep the area as an important jobs center.

The plan calls for the area to continue its evolution into a mixed-use district that integrates housing, retail, restaurants, civic, hospitality, arts and entertainment uses.

An emphasis would be placed on accommodating pedestrians and bicyclists, and connecting those modes with public transit and private vehicles.

City staff recommends that the City Council review the final draft of the North Downtown Specific Plan, and to provide input to staff and the project’s consultants in anticipation of adoption of the plan in October.

Will there be single family detached homes or high density housing around transit hubs ?

Ha! Ha! Ha! They want people packed in like sardines.

Gotta love more Soviet style housing for the area. I especially like the addition of the giant decorative chopsticks at the new building across from WC Bart and the Ygnacio freeway off ramp. Ring toss anyone?

A downtown development plan that doesn’t include a soccer stadium. What a concept! Maybe Concord city council will take note: cities don’t need to have a stadium downtown.

Walnut Creek City Council needs to get their sad act together quickly.
They call themselves a GREEN CITY and then let GAS toxic leaf blowing occur at all hours and spare the air days.
They let homeless transients rule downtown with trash, shopping cart baggage, urine sidewalks and thousands of police calls. They pretend to listen to people during the “brown act” and then laugh at them after the meetings. Let’s not let them make any more foolish housing decisions!

Snowflake of the year!

Maybe they should rename it East San Francisco…..

Oh no, can’t you just give it a rest & stop with building & developing non-stop!? Walnut Creek used to be a nice, quiet and clean small town feeling place. I don’t recognize it anymore. Can’t wait to retire and leave!

Yes we HAVE to have more housing. We have so many Illegals to house and I’m sure they will be able to afford to live in Walnut Creek.
Thanks Walnut Creek (and Concord) for creating a packed in living situation. Most of us chose to live in this area to get away from overcrowded city living. Thanks for taking it away.
It’s all about the money, not the people.

sorry it appears the politicians know they cant secure votes from the hard working people so they have crammed in low rent welfare section 8 and illegals all designed to root out the hard working vote in favor of a more dependent lower tier vote

you voted for this good luck …..

one party rule is why the forefathers made the constitution and the bill of rights and injected checks and balances ….

you voted to reject that and allow you to be ruled by a corrupt party that just raises taxes and floods cities with low income housing ..and that’s about it
well unless you include the evil straws and oh yeah legal theft and my fav …its legal to infect people with aids ….yeah baby cant wait for the numbers on that ….I wouldn’t want a blood transfusion any time soon ….

“its legal to infect people with aids”
….ummm…. WHAT?

What ever happened to the slow growth people on our city council? Seems it got hi jacked. Seriously don’t we have enough traffic in that area already? The whole county builds everything except roads to move people.

NIMYBs have turned into B-A-N-A-N-As

“Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything”

Just curious are you a commuter?

They want to pack in as much section 8 housing as possible to get the state funded money. They don’t care that a working taxpayer will be paying $3,000 for a one bedroom and have a lowlife paying $800 in the apartment next to them while the rest is subsidized from their taxes. It’s pathetic. And the WC city council probably all live in Moraga or Orinda so they don’t care. Just like Gavin Newsome probably lives in Granite Bay, Libby Schaaf probably lives in Marin and London Breed probably lives in Atherton.

@Richardoh — I don’t understand your question. What are you asking me, exactly?
