DeSaulnier And Carter Introduce Bipartisan Legislation To Help Patients Better Understand And Navigate A Cancer Diagnosis

Representatives Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA) and Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), co-chairs of the Congressional Cancer Survivors Caucus, announced bipartisan legislation to help patients better navigate their cancer diagnosis.

The Cancer Care Planning and Communications Act (H.R. 3835) would improve doctor-patient communication by enabling doctors to bill Medicare for the time they spend developing comprehensive cancer care plans.

These plans provide outlines of expected treatment options and symptoms – making patients more aware of what is to come and more active participants in their own care.

“Medical breakthroughs are at an all-time high, but advancements in doctor-patient communications are not keeping pace. We know that less than half of all cancer patients feel adequately informed about their diagnosis. Without a written plan explaining treatments and expected symptoms, patients are often left with more questions than answers. As a cancer survivor, who is grateful to have a healthy and full life ahead of me, I hope that my experience and this legislation will help others better navigate a diagnosis. I am grateful for the support of my co-chair Congressman Carter on this effort,” said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.

Credit where credit is due. Seems like it will help physicians help patients more.

Noj July 29, 2019 - 4:29 PM - 4:29 PM

He’s simply reintroducing his old bill from 2018.

You must always follow the money.

Dr. Jellyfinger July 29, 2019 - 4:39 PM - 4:39 PM

Mark did something worthwhile?

I’m pleasantly surprised.

Dr. Jellyfinger July 29, 2019 - 8:11 PM - 8:11 PM

And now I’m not…

Ricardoh July 29, 2019 - 4:45 PM - 4:45 PM

Well at least it isn’t about medicare for illegal aliens, Yet.
Not looking at the co pay but what medicare was billed for the cancer I had and I am not trying to be ungrateful but the doctors and the hospitals got compensated. As a matter of fact I called medicare and said did you guys pay all that but they wouldn’t tell me. It was a lot of money.

so ….wait what ….
errrr …I thought that everyone had to have oscama care or private
soooo now the de slacker wants people to abuse medicare system

like all the other socialist crap thrown down our throats and taxes pushed on us ….now they invade medicare ssi with a Brainiac scheme to let doctors auto bill for time with patient on top of being paid already

and by the first remarks on here
]the dem puff and fluff and who knows or cares where the money comes from schemers are at it again ….

HEY FIX THE ROADS THAT ARE BEING ISSUED MONEY FOR EVERY YEAR AND YET NOTHING DONE ….GAS TAX FOR ROADS NOTHING DONE …BRIDGE TOLLS 10 DOLLARS STILL NO ROADS ….

BUT POLITICIANS AND CALSCAMS AND CIVIL PROGRAM MANAGERS GETTING MILLIONS IN BONUSES AND FRILLS AND GOLDEN PARACHUTES

its hilarious how some college kid can go on tv and rant about the 1% paying for everyone …even if they get taxed 80% they should pay for everyones college and anything else they want

yet this same college kid who can vote like the millions of others keep voting for higher taxes …legal theft and every program that the dems throw out there costing us all money …makes no sense

yes absolutely all patients should be able to have doctors and their staff make sure you are completely informed of any and all decisions and or procedures …..that’s the job your already paying them for ….
this scam is nothing but a hijacking of medicare as de slacker puffs his backers or rather Pelosi’s backers with tax fluff money to secure elections

you see this is what happens when a political party gets to do what ever they want ….just like turkey we are under a one party system and have to comply or have Antifa burn us out ….just like 1930 germany …voting to be controlled no matter the cost …..well done lemmings

PREACH!

concord ygnacio July 30, 2019 - 9:55 AM - 9:55 AM

Ridiculous you would use this reply to go on a political rant. This article is about improving the lives of cancer victims. Have you or a family member ever had cancer? It’s a horrible disease and often has horrible, painful outcomes. This is not the place for this.

Rollo Tomasi July 30, 2019 - 5:11 PM - 5:11 PM

This article is about politicians and proposed legislation. It is EXACTLY the place to critique and discuss motives.

Amy July 29, 2019 - 5:48 PM - 5:48 PM

Why do we need a new law for doctors to do their job of caring for their patients?

Me July 29, 2019 - 8:24 PM - 8:24 PM

Why isn’t all legislation bipartisan? I really hope that someday our country figures out that there can be more than two viewpoints on a subject. Also, that we don’t always have to agree with the same people on every issue. This causes blanket stereotypes and hatred towards those on the “other” team. Discrimination defined…committed by all. I wish we didn’t know what party politicians were affiliated with and could just vote based on their honest, personal views; their character, leadership abilities, and whatever else was important to us as individual voters. S#%t’s gotta change…

Ilovepopcorn July 29, 2019 - 11:46 PM - 11:46 PM

Mark is the best. This is another positive idea to help people. I apologize for the usual negativity except for small number of folks. Keep up your great job Mark and ignore the haters.

Fred P. July 30, 2019 - 5:55 AM - 5:55 AM

Popcorn – get over it. It’s called freedom of speech. Why do you have to defend him at every turn?

Your attitude towards everyone that disagree with you is simply to insult them as a “hater.” Nobody “hates” him, but I guess you’re just fond of insulting others.

Hope you feel good about doing that ….

Forsythe July 30, 2019 - 6:12 AM - 6:12 AM

@Ilovepopcorn. Read Mark’s press releases regarding:

-Trump (where he explains why he skipped the inauguration),
-Mueller, AG Barr, Justice Kavanaugh.

Democrats use bullying tactics, subpoenas, intimidation and any means necessary to destroy their opposition.

For example,
Here is Kamala Harris trying to tie Kavanaugh to the Mueller destruction derby

You need to dig beneath the surface once in awhile.

concord ygnacio July 30, 2019 - 9:58 AM - 9:58 AM

Thank you Ilovepopcorn. Many of the respondents here have no sympathy for those who have been struck by cancer and will use any opportunity to attack DeSaulnier. This is not the place and time to be doing this. This article is about cancer and how DeSaulnier is trying to help the victims. Shame on these posters!!!!

Fred P July 30, 2019 - 11:05 AM - 11:05 AM

Concord ygnacio and popcorn – get over it yourself….

Having cancer is in itself not justification to wholeheartedly push a politician. I’ve had cancer – twice. Yet I’m not gonna trumpet it, play the victim and expect others to support me just because I’ve beat it – TWICE. I’ve had friends and other family members that have also been hit by it…. colon cancer, leukemia, bladder cancer, esophageal cancer…. But you know what? I support them in any way I can – but I don’t elevate them to a position just because of that.

A politician is there to do a job. If he doesn’t do his job in representing ALL of his constituents, then he ought to be fired. And if he’s playing the victim to gain support – well, that’s his problem. I guess he can’t base legislation on facts….. And I’ve seen plenty of legislation coming out of that buffoon that was NOT based on facts.

Yup – the democrats LOVE to insult those who disagree with them. The party of inclusiveness, tolerance and diversity displays its true hate.

Now take your “hater” comments elsewhere, hypocrites.

And as others have noted – popcorn is either marky or one of his snowflake staffers.

Gittyup July 30, 2019 - 3:15 PM - 3:15 PM

“Hater” and “racist,” Two terms liberals toss about when they have no real rebuttal.

Cellophane July 30, 2019 - 8:11 AM - 8:11 AM

I think Mark is living up to his responsibilities as a duly elected Democrat.

He’s working hard to eliminate all personal responsibilities and accountabilities while giving the government more and more control over the people’s daily lives.

Yes, Mark is doing a great job for those who believe that the Government should control everything while “we the people” mindlessly stumble through life never giving a thought to being an individual, only following blindly governments edicts.

RANDOM TASK July 30, 2019 - 8:49 AM - 8:49 AM

I have sympathy for all
me & popcorn
lets break it down …shall we

a politician who has special interests and unions providing money to the politician to push bills and steer YOU the tax payer to WANT to give more money to unions and special interests so the politician can live their life of luxury and not do much but play a role and impress you with grand overtures with catch phrases and words like …..favorable and appealing and further and decency and fair and everyone ….and when that does not work they use words like racist and rude and appalling and justice and biggot to catch your attention ….all to steer you like cattle to the voting booth and do what they want you to do ….not what is helpful for all which is what they are supposed to do ….like you believing that the gas tax will fix roads or $10.00 tolls will improve roads ….or that anything a politician pushes is good for you ….especially when they don’t let you vote on it like the gov …then low and behold when you do get to vote …you vote party instead of being informed and asking ok so gas is already taxed and for what ??? now they say to slap another tax on it so you can finally have good roads to drive on ….even though every year they pass a budget with money allotted for road maintenance and repair …..yet roads are crumbling and the same blob at the left turn on to cowell rd is still there and has been for over 15 years ….or denkinger ….

this bill boil down to what ….as you have heralded de slacker already for his greatness to push a bill to allow doctors to bill medicare for doing their job for which they get paid for already …..

boy I tell you what ….if I were Safeway union head I would be all over this and allowing the checkers to bill you the customer when they need to tell the bag boy how to bag your groceries ….yes mrs smith you can see here I added a fee of 10 dollars since I had to tell timmy how to pack your bag

keep voting for socialist and union tactics and lose your freedom to vote …
this is a one party state running the media and police letting criminals run around fleecing tax payers legally and taxing the taxes of the taxes ….
and all you have to say is Mark is the best. This is another positive idea to help people.

hey curing cancer or pushing for advanced systems in automotive or improving mass transit so the ones paying to ride actually feel like they are getting something other than hep c from the seats that the bums have urinated on

these are things to applaud a rep who is trying to actually do their job ….instead of trying to legalize prostitution or abuse medicare system with overbilling ….and hey incase you didn’t know we pay for the medicare so yeah allowing doctors to bill hours to it for talking to a patient is your idea of great work …..then we are already doomed into servitude ….feels like 1930 germany always wondered how the people got there …by manipulation of politicians ….works every time

Kirkwood July 30, 2019 - 10:43 AM - 10:43 AM

Well, at least RT doesn’t use all CAPS anymore.

WC Resident July 30, 2019 - 8:49 AM - 8:49 AM

I’m suspicious that there is a hidden agenda. Why does the legislature need to be involved in what seems like an internal procedural change? When I’m working on a tricky issue something I think about it constantly. I’m thinking while on walks, playing golf, in the shower. I often wake up from a nap with the “ah-ha!” solution. Will this bill allow me to bill for my walks, rounds of golf, showers, and naps? What will this do to the cost of medical care?

Ilovepopcorn July 30, 2019 - 9:55 AM - 9:55 AM

Oh puff puff. I will lead to the defense of Mark DeSaulnier at all times. Yes I do this to show there is a sick culture of hate that has poisoned the GOP! This will change eventually I hope. There are no words to help these haters.

Rollo Tomasi July 30, 2019 - 10:16 PM - 10:16 PM

If you’re unable to discern the difference between hate and disagreeing with policy, the problem lies with you.

Bill Cutting July 30, 2019 - 10:15 AM - 10:15 AM

Popcorn is mark guys

Chicken Little July 30, 2019 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

Probably his mom.

Julie July 30, 2019 - 12:32 PM - 12:32 PM

Something is not right. I also question what is really going on. Dems doing something for the good of the people? No motive? Sounds like it’s good but it’s like an onion. Have to wait and see.
