A motorcyclist killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Concord has been identified as 28-year-old Joshua Morgensen from Clayton, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Morgensen tried to pass a Toyota Prius on eastbound Concord Boulevard near Lodato Way shortly before 12:25 a.m.

He collided with the Prius, was thrown into opposing traffic and a westbound pickup truck struck him, according to police.

Morgensen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck fled, and they’re still trying to locate the suspect and vehicle. The Prius driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the subsequent investigation.

Concord police released photos of the truck and are asking anyone with information to call Traffic Officer Derrick King at (925) 671-5880 or the anonymous tip line at (925) 603-5836.

By leaving the scene the Prius driver went from a not your fault accident to vehicular homicide.

Reading comprehension isn’t really your thing, is it?

Read much? “The Prius driver remained at the scene and cooperated”.

Doh! is right. Did you even read the article?

Prius stayed, truck (which ran the guy over) left.

Complex, I know.

My father got in a car accident, got out of his car and was struck by a truck which lead to his death. The truck never stopped….. never found the driver.
Once you flee the scene you are guilty no matter the circumstances of why you fled.

The only reason one flees an accident scene when it’s not their fault is that there’s a reason they don’t want to be be found. I’ll leave it up to the Claycord commenters to speculate what that reason might be.

I’ll start the ball rolling with: DUI; stolen vehicle; no license; not in the US legally; truck full of drugs; kidnapped child tied up in the back; fleeing another crime. Okay, I’m done. What did I miss?

Driver of the truck was minding his own business driving down the road while motorcyclist making unsafe lane changes. Who’s at fault?

Regardless of the cause(s) of the accident or individual collisions, the Driver of the Truck has a duty under 20001(a) CVC to stop, exchange information AND provide reasonable assistance. Failing to do so is a wobbler – punishable in County Jail or State Prison.

If the accident results in death or permanent, serious injury, a person who violates the subdivision shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years, or in a county jail for not less than 90 days nor more than one year, or by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000) nor more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine.

The cause of the accident without first identifying and interviewing the driver of the truck may never be determined. That said, based totally on supposition the actions of Driver of the M/C will likely be determined to be the primary collision factor of the accident but that does not relieve the Driver of the truck of his duty under the law to render reasonable assistance and to identify himself.

A bigger question is why did the Driver of the truck flee the scene of an accident if he was just minding his own business? People run for a reason.

Why does everyone assume the driver of the truck is male?

Since none of us were there, we don’t know the real situation. That said, nowhere in the article does it say the MC rider was making an unsafe lane change. MAYBE the Prius driver wasn’t paying attention and swerved/drifted into the path of the rider.

People take off because they don’t care. People who care pull over. This isn’t breaking news.

Rest In Peace young man. Prayers for your loved ones.

Condolences to the family and friends of this young guy….. what a loss. I’ll be curious to see what the toxicology reports show about the motorcycle driver and if he was under the influence of anything? Regardless – a life has been lost and I can imagine there are many people who knew this young man who are suffering terribly regardless of the cause.

Gotta admit, I would hate to be driving down the road and seeing some motorcycle up ahead of me passing a car, Falling off of bike and rolling under my tires.

It could literally happen before you have a chance to react.

I saw a similar accident some years ago up in Napa.
An elderly couple had just left the restaurant I managed and tried to cross the busy unlit street to return to their motel and both were hit by a car.
Within seconds a truck ran over the lady and it never stopped…. just kept on going. I doubt she was even alive when the truck hit her, still some idiot ran up to her torso and checked her pulse! Her husband died where he landed about 40′ away. I never heard if they caught the truck driver. The car driver remained at the scene.

May he rest in peace, so young. God bless him and his family and friends.

Looks like the motorcyclist was simply a young man living a fast life. Sometimes that lifestyle comes back to bite you.

@Peace – I tend to agree with you…..I think he was under the influence….. also – what video? I haven’t seen anything available? Would be curious if there is video to see?
