The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.
We’ve all played video games at one time or another, so tell us, what’s your favorite video game?
Talk about it….
Never do video games. When I was a youngster I liked Centipede.
That another video game I forgot to list Centipede. Centipede is great and challenging too
Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped for the original Playstation
Wait…..they made more after Pong?
Pong
Any version of Mario’s game, I’m a grown adult now and myself, my husband and my kids all love video games of course we don’t all the time (my 19 yr old son does) but when a new games comes out we are all game and we are very competitive. Grew up with video games though my dad has work fixing the big video games back in the day and he would bring them home when he would pick up one from a store
Doom
It was like a light suddenly being turned on showing what can be done on a PC – leaving behind the arcade – being networked with friends to play and having a totally immersive experience.
I felt this exact same way about Mechwarrior II about the same time
Wow – I can’t believe I forgot Mechwarrior – I loved that game also.
Doom was great but it was Quake that ran through my veins for many many years!
So many to list
My most favorite video game is Galaga the space video game.
other video games I love is
Pac man
Donkey Kong
Turbo the racing game
Pro Position the other racing video game
Tron
Mario Bros
Dragon Slaver
and more if I can remember
Back to the old days I used to spend money at the Arcade to play video games. I would spend all of my allowance nothing but video games rather than saving money haha. Now I can play Galaga at home on my Roku Box.
Yeah, I have to agree with Galaga … followed closely by Xevious!
So many choices. I have to say the Mass Effect Trilogy for sheer enjoyment of setting and characters, it’s like a new Star Wars. Back in the day though I would play a lot of ASCII roguelikes, but try getting kids to believe games with no graphics existed.
centipede and the sit in driving games. Used to play for hours at the great entertainer.
Pac Man- still occasionally play it. I have a plug and play version.
Honestly? Just give me Tetris/Dr Mario on SNES and I’ll be content.
Wolfenstein was my favorite! After work, I would come home and vent some frustrations by killing Space Nazis before dinner. The last game I played was Doom, but that was many, many, years ago.
Minecraft
Space Invaders on my Apple II (1978). Was hooked on computers in the early years, now they’re just tools.
Space invador haha I used to play space invador on the Atari back to the old days
I did too got hooked up with Apple My first apple computer was the Apple 2GS when the model was made in 1987
ActRaiser on SNES. I loved going between action and building.
Any of the Dragon Warrior games for the original Nintendo.
Damn you people are old…..
I’m pretty old but I try to stay current. Playing Fallout 76 at the moment…
Road Rash and for the PC, Postal.
Always loved the Legend of Zelda series….combining action with puzzle solving is always excellent!
I did pinball machines for a short time but never got into video games. Unless you count solitaire on the computer (at work…).
Deuces Wild video poker.
Asteroids
Duckhunt
Mario/Donkey Kong
Wing Commander
Halo
These days Golf
Two very different from each other:
Fool’s Errand
And
Mouse Stampede
Only played one video game that was a free sample from Microsoft for XP named “Zoo …” something. The graphics were stunning, very advanced, and sophisticated for the time. Played it two or three times. You built a zoo and charged admission, stocked the zoo with animals, and had to care for them with food and water, making sure they were compatible with other animals in their exhibit, etc. You bought new animals for the exhibits and set up refreshment stands and arcade games. You made money if the zoo was successful. I made millions.
Then one day I don’t know what cane over me. I had the zoo full of paying visitors and decided to close the gates behind them and let the lions and tigers out of their cages. You can imagine what happened. Apparently the developers had anticipated somebody doing that because the lions and tigers were stalking the guests, attacking, and eating them alive. The screaming was very authentic and built right into the game, as well as the blood bath that ensued. That was the last time I played it … or any video game for that matter. I didn’t want to get comfortable with that.
You know they made a Jurassic Park game just like that? When Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down the pirates don’t eat the tourists!
The pirates though should make the tourists walk the plank, at least. I didn’t see much more of Jurassic Park than a clip here and there, but I can imagine when things go wrong. I thought it was remarkable that the developers had anticipated “zoo accidents” and had programmed the game in such great graphic detail to accommodate it, in the event it even happened. And, here I thought I had gone off kilter for doing it … they had spent months building the game and graphics around the event!
“Zoo Tycoon.” I remembered the nane this morning. I made virtually millions of dollars playing it. The operative word being “virtually.”
I’ve only played the games that come with Windows, such as Hearts and Solitaire, and some of the free games that can be downloaded from Windows Store. My favorite is chess and blackjack.
Forgot the name but is was some little guy with a back pack racing around and collecting things with another guy trying to stop him. Very basic but fun and it had some twists to it – like when you got more in your backpack you could go faster and collect more and if you got caught three times you were out and had to start over.. Nothing heavy duty but mindless fun
Space Invaders
Does no one like newer games? I grew up on Commodore 64 and NES games. Too much nostalgia going on here. Not enough realizing those old games are pretty terrible for the most part. There are a few exceptions.
My current favorite is probably Civ VI. I have more hours into it than any other game I have on Steam. I also have the NES/SNES classic systems and while those games are fun, they’re not the same as an adult IMO. I have been playing Super Mario World a bunch lately though.
My honorable mention is Broforce. That game is simply amazing.

There was also a spin knob game in the arcade with geometric shapes you shot down into. Some of them had spikes in them.I can’t remember the name.
Quake will always be my favorite game. Multiplayer first-person shooter with the first real 3D rendering – amazing! Game play was fast and furious. Currently playing Rainbow Six Siege and Ring of Elysium.
Gauntlet
World of Warcraft. I’ve played many, many video games in my life and hardly ever finished any of them. WoW is the game I’ve been playing for almost 15 years.
